Most of what we know about North Korea comes in dribs, drabs and trickles of information, smuggled out of the country as carefully as those trying to escape the unrelenting, horrifying and abusive regime. Among untold levels of human rights abuse, indoctrination and brutal punishment, are the intense restrictions placed upon every aspect of daily life. Some of which are so ridiculous to be laughable; if that were even allowed…

I remember one story way back that Wrestler Scott Norton along with other wrestlers visited North Korea to do a show. One night Scott was talking to one of his family members in his hotel. He was upset with something but when he commented how the country is terrible security immediately entered his room obviouslyshowing they were listening in.
And then what happened?
@@MASTEROFEVIL Scott Norton awhile back said he was taking out of his room and into a different room surrounded by armed guards. He was eventually let go as he think it was Antonio Inoki and Muhammad Ali being there on the tour with him otherwise he wouldve been jailed.
I’m surprised Otto Warmbier wasn’t mentioned in this. He’s that American college student that took a new years vacation to North Korean via a private tour and was arrested for stealing a propaganda poster from his hotel. While he did technically commit theft he was sentenced to 15 years hard labor and was forced to do a humiliating press conference and was accused of being a CIA agent and a Christian missionary, (he was Jewish). He came back to the states a year later in a coma and died. The whole thing was so controversial that many wonder if he even actually did anything or was set up
What's the difference between Christianity and Judaism? They're both Harmful ideas.

Your mum lol.
When I was still living in Vietnam back in the late 1970s and 1980s, the country was very much like North Korea. We were cut off from the rest of the world. No independent news outlet, no one was allow to leave the country except a few diplomats. Children were brainwashed. We all worshiped Ho Chi Minh, the late leader, like God. Any slipped words that offend Ho Chi Minh or the government will help send you to "re-education" camp. If you dare to protest, you may end up as good as dead. The economy was miserable. Things started to change in the 1990s when the United States normalized the relationship with Vietnam, under Bill Clinton's presidency (by that time I had already escaped the country as a refugee and migrated to the US). The economy was flourishing, and the country was more open to the world. Vietnam today is much different, though it is still under a repressive regime. People still go to prison for protesting or speaking out against the government. Human rights activists are handed long prison terms. The unwritten rule is: do whatever you want but don't touch politics. Everytime I view a video about North Korea, I can imagine what people feel and think. The thing is, most of them don't know that they are living under a repressive regime. They thought they were free and had a better life than people in other countries. Those who know, dare not to speak. But the truth cannot be hidden forever. Some day, North Korean people will know.
Thanks for sharing that first hand account, unlike other communistic countries i had always viewed the current Vietnamese regime as far more “hands off” and subdued in handling its people, but i then realised this was a misunderstanding on my part, when a couple of months ago my Vietamese gaming buddy disappeared (he was learning English and even some Polish from us while playing) and he told me eventually on a message that the government had basically banned and blocked access to these western games and services. I was shocked considering the sudden and large scale banning of foreign media is usually very high up on the more major red flags of an authoritarian state… not even the USSR or modern Russia had done that.
@@dopaminedreams1122 They block it cuz the company didn't pay taxes dude. If you don't wan't get ban you should cooperate with domestic company. For example, Roblox did that.

It’s actually insane how childish Kim is, akin to a literal toddler.
they ought to revolt against him the way they did Nicolae Ceausescu.
He’s been said to be extremely paranoid of losing his power, which is why he flexes it so much. All that stress is causing him some health issues.
One thing I've also heard is that many traditional religious practices are also strictly prohibited in North Korea. Christians who have escaped the country have claimed that being caught in possession of a Bible can result in lifetime imprisonment or worse generational slavery to the government.
Imagine worshipping a god that doesn´t care about the people in N. Korea.
Kim Jong Un is just trying. To keep his people safe. From the harmful ideas of religion.
@@PROVOCATEURSK imagine being a salty, cringworthy nerd atheist
I can get behind this
Then why are there christian churches in the dprk and several high ranking christians in government?
Like why does North Korea not want the people to smile or have fun what a weird country to live in as for an American myself this feels depressing
For real, I can understand how some other rules are designed to push classic authoritarian ideology and loyalty to leaders, and are nothing new, but making laughing, smiling or even drinking some good stuff a JAIL worthy offence due to some dead dudes anniversary (like he won’t notice let’s be honest) is a level of control and dominance over the most basic human behaviour, and that is disgusting considering many people can’t help but laugh or smile when put under stress especially.
The thing is, they dont have a choice. If they are a citizen its also illegal to leave North Korea. It's very hard for someone else to go and visit as well. Its a terrible place all around.
So you wouldn´t ban laughing on 9/11?
Well if you want to find out firsthand just vote for Kamala Harris

The only thing that is not illegal is eating, sleeping and working.
Meanwhile the north korean dictador is laughing and enjoying life in a big luxury mansion with alot of things to do and even the regime have alot of capitalist things like movies, tv series, new cars, videogames( maybe the part of videogames may be true or not), a good big plasma TV, their own movie theater, a big pool, a private shooting range, a private horse race,a private basketball court, a private football court, a mega yacht with north korean laddies that the regime choose carefuly so Kim jong un have a great time at sea, and many more objects.
Meanwhile the civilians are just having fun with the regime rules and other anticapitalist things. If only someone expose kim jong un and the amount of capitalist objects he have in his mansion.
Eating is only legal if you eat approved foodstuffs.
@@UnprofessionalProfessor you are right, also they are like little food stores that sell some capitalist food products from other nations, maybe they get all that from the black market or other places that sell the same food product. This little stores are inside the buildings and they are also approved by the kim regime to get more money.
They don’t even eat really. The military doesn’t even get proper food
@@cameronhermann9400 So far they eat mostly rice, some seasoned grass( they are some videos that show some of the poorest people and even the middle class people, pick up grass to eat), sometimes meat ( maybe cow meat or dog meat, who knows 🤔), some vegetables they grow and mostly is corn, and that goes the same for the military or if you have a high rank, they eat so much better.
@@cameronhermann9400 That depends on rank. In NK every citizen has to conscript for 10 years. The weak and starved soldiers are conscripts obviously. NK has 200,000 strong 'elite army' - obviously these troops are well fed.

I hope to see a free North Korea in my lifetime.
In the 1970s, I attended a very religious school (not in North Korea). Wearing denim was forbidden, as was having facial hair, etc. There was a very long list of rules, some unwritten. These rules technically applied to the students' families as well, though enforcement was (obviously) problematic.
I understand that the purpose of this video is to make fun of North Korean society, but not all of the rules are unique to that society.

The whole video feeds off of stereotypes and is full of factually incorrect stuff. Ive been to NK myself, and things are not as extreme as this video makes it out to be, nor as specific to NK as you point out. But hey, gotta bring in the youtube clicks.
