- ...in this age of rapidly-progressing technology, it's easy to forget about where it all started. Can the Ozark Northern, a "proto-lanced" endeavor, recreate 19th Century railroading in a 21st Century simulator?

There's something about that "Railroad Pioneer" theme that gets me choked up everytime I hear it. Whether it's the lone whistle echo, the triumphant horn section, or just how it evokes the image of a romantic bygone era.
Simply awesome! This route models almost to a tee what I'm doing in the garden with live steam right now, a really fitting tribute to the glory days of steam railroading!
This looks like a great sim. One of these days i will have to get MSTS again. This route feels like the Ozarks I know,might need a few more trees but it still looks GREAT!
The guy who created this route, Andre Ming, does a great job with the activities. His other 2 routes, the "St. Louis & North Arkansas", and the "Arkansas & Ozarks Subdivision" are also great and fun to run. Definitely some of the best value for their prices out there.
I wonder what happened to the Ozark Northern in the official lore of the railroad?
Did it go on to become a Class 1 railroad? did it survive the purging of old railroads at the turn of the century?
If it did survive into the 20th century, how did it deal with tough economic times, and traffic booms throughout the first half of the century, would they have merged with larger carriers, or would they have remained independent and expand on their own?
What kind of equipment would they have used during the transition era? would they be quick to adopt Diesels, or would they build a fleet of big steam? what would facilities and industrial areas look like along their lines, what would have happened to the towns it served? would they be bigger, smaller, the same? would they even be there today?
That's the beauty of setting a fictional route in that era, you could play out history in real time, and explore real world events through the lens of a railroad just trying to get by.
You could pull a Utah Belt, and turn a small little freelanced railway into a major Class 1 the competes with modern day railroads today, or you could have it get merged into a bigger railroad and then have real railroads take over on the fictional route.
There was a railroad in MO called the Ozark Southern Railway running from Ava to Mt.Zion, then to Mansfield.
Hi. I don't get what these simulators do. What happens once you buy the video? Does it just replay the same video over and over, or is there some kind of interaction and game playing? Any info appreciated.
This route is awsome. It's somthing i have been looking for a long time. But i think all the links to download are dead.

Beautiful video for a beautiful route! Now when you said 'proto-fictional' or whatever the term was - you did a shot at the begining and near the end that was near verbatim to a Ansel Adams photo I had seen. The dirt trackbeds look fantastic. Is that ScaleRail they're using? Great job on the shay sounds too BTW. I know little about 19th century railroading as well. But this route and review make me want to learn it tout-sweet! :)

Too bad this is no longer available nowadays. Hopefully someone decides to recreate this route (as well as all of its locomotives and rolling stock) for Trainz someday.

Hello. Andre Ming here, the creator of the Ozark Northern. If you're still interested in the answer to the above: No. 3 was based on the Rogers-built 4-6-0 locomotives built for Frisco railroad in 1880 and is a dead match for that class of Frisco engines, including the paint scheme. Hope that helps.
