MMLP2 is a CLASSIC and it bothers me that 5 years later, people are still sleeping on it. I've never heard an album with more clever wordplay from anyone, ever. It's a masterpiece

I couldn’t agree more. And I also think Eminem’s biggest critic is Eminem. I think he wanted to go for something new but with stuff like this wanted to remind everyone that he still is Eminem.
Firstly let me just say great analysis on where you think Em is at now. I literally just listen to his album today after it got so much hate and honestly, to me majority of the songs was pretty good, it's a different Em but he still got it and the lyrics was amazing and deep. As you said he is like an evolved em or in the process of evolving.

Eminem started making earnest black lives matter type conscious music at least since Proof's murder - possibly hoped to put his immense following to good use with this last one, but in so doing underestimated both the tribal nature of social media and the awkwardness of earnestness in hiphop.
With Eminem there are so many aspects to him. We see Marshal Mathers, Slim Shady, and Eminem I believe people want or are used to the Slim Shady version where he does not care and will rip anybody apart. I listen to everything he does in complete aww because it is hard for a lot to comprehend the genius that he is.

Best songs on revival for me in order were
1. Believe, he talks about how is he supposed to keep up the pace once he's won the race and what not, perfect beat, message and lyrics
2. Framed, funky slim shady vibe from it
3. Castle and arose. Both these songs had a side of a story we've never heard from em, he talks about a perspective when in 1997 when hailie was about to come out of Kim's stomach, and that he needs to make some money since his infinite CD flopped, and in castle where he talks about his overdose in 2007 when he nearly died and was writing his death note
4. Offended, also gives out a slim shady vibe, with a fast verse at the end to top it off
5. River ft. Ed Sheeran First verse he raps about the perspective of a guy got cheated on by his girl, then for revenge he also cheated, in the second verse he raps from the dude's perspective that the main girl cheated with. with a classy hook to finish the song by ed.

I am a BIG Eminem fan, but when i first heard the new album i didn't liek it that much.... but after playing it a couple of times I must say that it starts growing on me and that the album has a few great songs that can be overlooked like it happend to me.
I kind of think this was on purpose. He made a beautiful album that only certain hardcore fans would embrace. I love it and have been listening since it was released. It did have weird 1st singles (doubt and social rather than River), heavy pop features, No real Rap features (really? and he's never done that), after 4 years away almost no one knew he was dropping an album (they usually market it well), no video before the album, no American cover stories, heavy rock samples (I like them), some funny hooks (offended makes me laugh cuz ur a baby for finding him offensive) and some bad hooks, A lot of female voices and it's VERY personal. What he's talking about and how he's sharing stories in a new way some people will feel and relate in their own way and many didn't dial in to even try. He didn't make those casual songs for the average listener to want to hear the album.
Ok here's my "conspiracy theory', people want Shady but at 45 and 2 decades in, how does the man give that without sounding like he's trying too hard? Like why are you mad Em? Why are you talking shit? Well now he can be aggressive and Shady and say fuck you and here you go at the same time. The remix sounds perfect cuz he's mad and we are ok with him being mad. When he makes an in your face album we will be happy and cheer. He has a reason to do the album we want now.
So again I don't think he made a shitty album but their are obvious, very obvious flaws and HH was never going to love this album.

Matthew Field Way too many people loving the album for you to just say "the album is not good." And it's true that he's never had that many rap features on his albums. Only 1 to 3 tracks per album. I think the OPs point was that em made an album that was personal to him and made tracks that pick from each era of his career. That's why it feels all over the place. It's supposed to feel that way.
The original was 3 Em verses with Phresher on the hook.... Remix is a 2Chainz verse, a Phresher verse, and a new Em verse....
