the butternut squash rice pudding is very in the spirit of Turkish Noah's Ark Pudding (the recipe in the back of the shelled wheat packet). It's a pudding made during certain religious celebrations in Turkey. My mum and grandma make it with whatever fruits and grains that are available to them, so it's different each year (and every family has their own recipe). This pudding is then given to neighbours and relatives in little bowls and it helps bring people together. The reason it's called Noah's Ark Pudding is because it is believed that "when Noah's Ark came to rest on Mount Ararat, Noah's family celebrated with a special dish. Since their supplies were nearly exhausted, what was left (primarily grains, dried fruits and the like) was cooked together to form a pudding".

This might get buried and this is never the focus of June's videos, but I always wanted to say this... Thanks for being a positive and relatable person in these videos to showcase a fairly typical Asian-American style of cooking and methodology in the kitchen. Especially with all the anti-Asian vitriol going on more than ever. Lots of media both fiction and "reality television" like depict how Asians eat and cook as challenge foods or somehow demean it as ghoulish and disgusting. It's showcasing "the exotic" to ridicule and for people to gawk at and scorn. My parents are Filipino and my dad had a strong ethnically Chinese background and did not grow up in a really developed area. So much of style of cooking and flavors are simple with Chinese roots and focus on not wasting and making either simple or cheap ingredients delicious-- and they were. I hate the relationship many Americans have with Asian food, either seeing it as unclean and disgusting, cheap and inauthentic, or needing to be "polished" and elevated to something unrecognizable to be palatable. Along with June's innovation, respect for other cultures by having dishes inspired by them, and June's ability to maturely discuss topics like depression and racist-based, outdated ideas about MSG, seeing her stuff is always so validating. Pretty sure she isn't hurting for money. I doubt her channel would be popular if she was doing $200-a-week "challenges"? I personally don't want to see an $800 a month budget food channel.
Seriously! Maybe she needs to watch some "why I left Buzfeed videos" or a Safiya Nihgard house tour, I don't think she understands the literal millions she could be making right now!
Didn’t regret watching this video the whole way through. Omg In love with how she’s so creative with her ingredients. Her personality makes it 100x better too I just can’t stop watching

I think a episode of June just doing a kitchen pantry clean out for the week would be interesting (like just cooking with what she has no shopping) I know her kitchen probably has lots of interesting stuff from pass projects
I'd love to see a budget eats episode where you take normally expensive/high end dishes (like restaurant style) and recreate them for your average Joe on a budget.
@@thank9stars its been a long while since I've been able to 'splurge' at a restaurant so forgive me if these are just plain jane things. But let's see, osso bucco, cioppino, lobster bisque, surf and turf, paella, tagliatelle dish, tiramisu, creme brulee, crab cakes and a pho or ramen would be nice to see. I'd also love to see the dishes plated mock restaurant style. I struggle with making "date night" home cooked meals look better than just slop on a plate. Pretty sure she isn't hurting for money. I doubt her channel would be popular if she was doing $200-a-week "challenges"? I personally don't want to see an $800 a month budget food channel.
@@colleendekoning3926 but what if the challenge is to feed a school, or homeless shelter.....I think that would be very cool
Maybe she could buy an Ikea table with that $200. They need to sit down to eat!!
@@colleendekoning3926 that's not the point....... she saying she wants a challenge where June has no limits.
@@colleendekoning3926 she wants to see what June would treat herself with.
Will never be over this series! Love coming back to watch June work her magic every now and then
I'm a simple person. I see June, I click. LOVE THIS SERIES!
Same😁
We love June we need more June ☺️
june neeeds her own channel!
Same
This woman is carrying this channel. She don't need a raise she need to go out on her own and make $$$$coins
Seriously! Maybe she needs to watch some "why I left Buzfeed videos" or a Safiya Nihgard house tour, I don't think she understands the literal millions she could be making right now!
Wait a minute, are there more people on this channel? I've never noticed 😮
IKR I'd totally watch all her videos if she had her own channel
@@imawkward1005 She does have her own channel! It's called @junelikethemonth enjoy!
@@nerdynerdstrom thanks. Never knew
June's laid back attitude about food is just so enjoyable to watch I just love watching her cook.
My search history be like:

“How to pronounce Kichdi”
LOL and yes, I relate
Hello there
can you eat fishbone it is
The openness about her emotional state and the garlic meditation....I love her so much I can't handle it sometimes
Didn’t regret watching this video the whole way through. Omg In love with how she’s so creative with her ingredients. Her personality makes it 100x better too I just can’t stop watching
June is the cutest person in the planet literally protect her above everything
Aaron feeding June the ice cream sandwich (while requesting "ice cream sammy week) was the cutest part of the video.
I would love to see a “splurge” June meal. Where the budget is as big as she’d like.
Please don’t overwork June. We love her, don’t want to lose her.
You are very right
Where you from ?
@@jemandjemand2362 overwork can be dangerous to one’s mental health.
Does anyone else love how clean June's kitchen is? All. The. Time.
It's baffling. How can you cook that much and have a clean kitchen!? Even WHILE she's cooking its clean. She's a wizard.
You see her kitchen all the time to know this 😂
Also they film and edit these. Its not happening in real time 😂
Sometimes I find myself wondering what June does in between meals...and then I realize: dishes. June does dishes in between meals.
I think Aaron does the dishes
Commenting for the algorithym and to tell Delish that June is a treasure and basically the only delish chef I watch. You better be taking care of her!! 😍
June is the only delish chef I watch, she's what's keeping this Channel alive, if Babish ever finds June there dead in the water.
Yes, I hope she can stand up for herself and demand to get paid what she's worth.
Who could possible give June a thumbs down? Offended.
7 thumbs down out of 8 thousand views...i consider those thumb down accidents lol i love her
I know! How could you not love her videos like
Exactly, pluck them 😪. June is my fave TH-cam cousin

😂😂😂
June give me so much inspiration. With covid and cooking 3 meals a day plus snacks for 6 people I had kinda given up...cooking wasn't bringing me any happiness any more. I watch these videos while I make my grocery list and it makes me want to try new things and enjoy making them again. Its nice to hear her honesty about being depressed and doing things slowly. It helps to know its hard for so many and not just me. Helps to not feel so isolated.
Hello what part of the world are you from?
June - I would be thrilled to wake up every day and find a new hour-long video of you teaching insanely creative, insanely inexpensive meals. I think most of us would. But we also want you happy and healthy. Take all the time you need. Loved this one! (Love them all)
I cannot believe how creative June is! I’ve never watched a more creative chef, in a realistic kitchen (which is a huge plus for me!) and with such a sweet and charming personality! I will watch anything you make June! 👏🏻🥰
I find it mind-blowing how she comes up with so many meal ideas 🤯
Aaron standing behind June, shaking endless amounts of chili powder into his food, is such a mood
I love that u knew what to do with the jicama. U prepared it almost exactly how my Mexican cook friend made it, like a slaw salad with carrots. He even used pepper flakes and citrus too.
Delish get June and Aaron outta that small studio apartment. Y’all really doing her dirty by letting her carry the entire team, yet not providing her the means to live in a better place.
Or maybe she's satisfied with where she lives now? I don't really want to assume how June feels.
What exactly is wrong with their apartment? They are lucky. Some people don't even have that, and some people aren't materialistic and need the best of everything
She lives in in New York. That place probably is a lot more expensive than it looks.
That’s also what makes her so relatable. This is a typical NYC kitchen
It’s only a matter of time! 💕
You're the only channel that's honest about the taste. Everyone else acts like their food is a 10/10.
Often so you buy their cookbook lol but not always
I love how real and fresh this channel is. Perfectly imperfect and absolutely charming. Definitely subscribing.
Me, trying to get through work/the day depressed watching June trying to get through work/the day depressed. ;___; Thanks for being an example
June you pronounced Kichidi absolutely perfectly ! As an Indian hearing you say it in hindi so beautifully literally gave me goosebumps
June really deserves a raise, a full set of grade a kitchen appliances and a bigger apartment! So many people are watching for this content only
I never watch a video over 5 mins without skipping, but June's 1 hour content, I never miss a second of it. Please never stop uploading this series!!! Love you June!!!
Omg I literally couldn't be happier right now. About to eat dinner and then pour a glass of wine and enjoy an hour and a half of June.
🥂
I think Aaron is very sweet and loving. You guys are adorable. When you were having a sadder-day (as I call them), he was very supportive of your dish..(Not saying he wouldn't of been) because he knows how happy you get when he is happy; Especially when he enjoys your cooking. I hope your days stay bright June, you make many of us happy and entertained!
👌🏼👌🏼I agree
I love June, I love Aaron, love how she cooks and makes me feel so proud of myself for using absolutely everything SCRAPS and dark meats and transforming food. She does that too!! I just love this!!
Hello there what part of the world are you from?
Hello Bernadette!
She is my absolute favorite. The only chef I can watch the whole thing and not get bored. She is amazing. Not only creative like crazy but I live her spirit and imagination. Give this woman as raise.
Hello how are you
As someone with depression, I really empathised with June’s comments at 12:00.. nicely put June- it IS ok to. It be ok!- take care of yourselves everybody!🥰
When June was talking about her delicious salad, and than you just see Aaron behind her adding his spice to it 😆 love these two .
I thought that was insulting of him.
@@lucindaarchuletta2590 why?
People can add spice to their food, nothing insulting in it :)
@@billyjean3118 he isn't very nice sometimes, and she works so hard. Im a new subscriber to her channel, and i find her much kinder then I would be.
@@lucindaarchuletta2590 they’re a 9 year old relationship, not everybody is comfortable on camera. I understand that it might seem that way when seen for the first time but I would give analyzing someone’s behavior based on one video a rest :)
I have never seen Aaron wiggle. You know that pudding was great.
Once he “fixed it” for his immature palate lol jk but I always prefer it the way June has it before he messes with it
It's always fun to see people's happy dance!
Thank you for being honest about your depression. Some days are hard and we don’t try as hard but you’re still amazing.
Aaron: June lied to me. I almost died.
June:...That was kinda my plan.
june: what shall we eat for dinner?'
Aaron: slowly reveals butternut squash from the floor
Just wanted to say really appreciate your honesty with depression as I’m going through that too and just starting to explore meds again. Always love your videos and your quirky banter and wittiness! Keep it up chica! You’re awesome and are a treasure wherever you contribute!
Only person I watch over an hour on youtube. I just love the creativity and how willing June is to make things work and keep it real about where she’s at while making the food. Def give her a raise so she can get whatever she needs for self care or therapy in the middle of this crazy time. We need to protect June & Aaron at all cost, thank you for coming to my TED talk.
Hereby renaming myself "salmon scrap bag" for funsies.
Also, props for the vulnerable moment...we have all been there!
I think June should try a "mediterranean" diet budget eats! I love these so much
June just eating the fish bones and saying they’re well cooked and not to worry just reminds me of my Chinese mom saying the exact same thing when she would feed us random unboned fish she would cook. 🤣
a lot of flavor is in the bones.
diana povero it’s plain
“famous last words” hmhmmm😭🥰🥰
I think a episode of June just doing a kitchen pantry clean out for the week would be interesting (like just cooking with what she has no shopping) I know her kitchen probably has lots of interesting stuff from pass projects
Hellos there what part of the world are you from ?
Watching Budget Eats is always so relaxing. Almost a form of meditation. Thank you, June!
I love June's inventiveness and experimental spirit in the kitchen, it's such an exciting way to approach budget meals.
I'd love to see a budget eats episode where you take normally expensive/high end dishes (like restaurant style) and recreate them for your average Joe on a budget.
Specifically, what dishes come to mind for you as "high end"?
@@thank9stars its been a long while since I've been able to 'splurge' at a restaurant so forgive me if these are just plain jane things. But let's see, osso bucco, cioppino, lobster bisque, surf and turf, paella, tagliatelle dish, tiramisu, creme brulee, crab cakes and a pho or ramen would be nice to see. I'd also love to see the dishes plated mock restaurant style. I struggle with making "date night" home cooked meals look better than just slop on a plate. You live in a more diverse culinary area, what are some unique dishes you'd find out at a restaurant?
A whole baked fish maybe!?
@@thank9stars for me all I can think of is beef Wellington 😂😂😂
I must say after watching several videos in a row... you have inspired me to jump off the take out route and find my confidence in cooking at home again. Talk about a long AF rut. Love how brave you are with your ingredients/recipes. Keep it coming, June. Love Aaron's brutal honesty, too. Everyone needs a good critic in the kitchen. You're awesome, June.
I never watch anything on youtube this long and this is not even the kind of content that i usually like. I don't know how I got here but I am grateful I did - June is an absolute treasure and a joy to watch.
