Wolf Hoffman has written some of the tastiest, hard rockin melodies and riffs and has always had a phenomenal tone too. One of the most influential and important bands in the progression of rock to heavy metal.
Thanks for the replies both 👍🏻 Blood of the Nations album kicks ass I fully agree! Teutonic Terror is one of the very best examples of how to construct a fantastic traditional heavy metal song, it's an absolute masterpiece an anthem. We will.... GIVE EM THE AXE!!
This came out when MTV was still great and I was 15 years old. I saw Ozzy/Accept in Raleigh NC for my first ever concert and from that day I was a metal head. I still play this great tune. I found a backing track for it without guitar so it really lets you not only play it the correct way, but you can change a few things around to get an even heavier sound. Liked and subbed.
I remember when this one first came out. All of my buddies and their buddies wanted to come over to my house just to hear me play Balls To The Walls Man! I felt cooler than the other side of the pillow.
Story time.... Saw Accept in 1983 at the Concert Factory in Costa Mesa (no longer there) and it was awesome! Until the fire department showed up and stopped the concert because the promoter sold too many tickets and the local fire department gets on stage and tells us. "half of the crowd needs to leave".. ha! That didn't go well and of course beer bottles started to fly, and then the cops came and stopped the whole thing. Next thing we know it's like a riot with multiple cop cars and helicopters flying overhead. Good times! Thanks Carl for posting this! 🎸🎶💯
- Wow! That’s crazy! So my one Accept story is from 1985, they were opening for Iron Maiden on the Powerslave tour (World Slavery Tour). They were the loudest band I’ve ever heard/seen open. They also played a fantastic set. Additionally, I happened to run into Udo and Peter CD shopping at a local record store earlier in the day which was kind of cool. This would’ve been Accept touring for Metal Heart
Saw Accept live at the Iowa jam in ‘84 followed by Motley Crue, Night Ranger, Ozzy, and Ted Nugent. Epic day for music in Des Moines! Thanks for the vid.
In the video I watched, Jörg plays the beginning as you do, while Wolf plays the D/G, D#/G#, E/A notes on the A/D strings. Thank you for the way you teach, it's much easier to learn watching you, instead of trying to find tablature that isn't completely wrong.
Wow! Fantastic choice Carl!!!! Great song by a great band! I hope you revisit this band in the future, maybe something from Metal Heart. I look forward to learning this one properly, thanks for your help, I’ve messed around with it over the years, but now I can REALLY learn it! The GL365 Academy rocks!! 🤘
Well done, you are doing the lessons for Accept very well.Sometime If you have time, would you also do a tutorial on U.D.O. I Give As Good As I Get ,with the full solo at first with the full scale (which I think is in A sharp, not too sure) and then as it should be, with the full curves and bends. This first rock is hard for me to understand because it is very fast and I try to catch it by ear. But it's hard for me because I have no knowledge of music theory and I don't know where to start. Otherwise, I manage the other part somehow. Unfortunately, I couldn't find it anywhere on the net and I hope you can help with this. Thanks in advance and I will look forward to it.
And would you be able to do a lesson on how to play U.D.O.'s I Give As Good As I Get? Especially for the solo. All together with the opening scale and all the curves, bands (2:38-2:42 of the original clip) and nuances. I will be glad if you do because you will be the first one to do so. In the 11 years since the clip was released, I still haven't been able to find a video tutorial for this piece of metal. I'll be looking forward to it.
French being my mother tongue, I remember younger asking asking a friend for the translation.. Ever since that very moment, I still struggle with the concept of those lyrics.. What's the point and especially the fun about putting your balls against a wall?. Don't feel like trying..
Hey, apparently during WW2 aircraft had a gear-shifter in the cockpit that had two spheres at the top of the shaft (very phallic I know, but bear with me ). When you went "balls to the wall", you shifted your aircraft into the highest gear, the gear-shifter moved against the wall behind you, and you were ready to go full on barn-storming.
Wolf Hoffmann said in an interview that somene called Accept a band thats is "balls to the wall" and they've never heard the term before but they liked it so much that they decided to make a song called "Balls To The Wall". The song itself is about "standing up against aggression and oppression and revoltig against your oppressors"

For the longest time I thought this was ac/dc!
Udo’s like a perfect synthesis between Bon Scott and Lemmy

Great post Jack! The band still makes great music today too which is really cool!
I really loved their new one Teutonic Terror… that's pure heavy metal…
