The scariest part was actually the eye notification on the bottom left that tells you that they can see you, and they look right at you as they approach.
This is kinda creepy considering how the raw texture felt like a nightmarish surreal world and you have an alien trying to annihilated whosoever in the nightmare.
Really captures the athmosphere of ”running from tripods”, but I feel like the game would lack gameplay elements. As someone who made a lot of 2D games when I was younger which were often inspired by War of the worlds I always struggled to make the game play compelling. The idea of trying to survive a tripod attack like in the 2004 adaptation was cool, but whenever I tried to come up with a way to actually make a game out of it it almost always felt boring. Simply hiding/running is fun for about 10 minutes, after you’ve been lasered 5 times it’s just frustrating. You can’t really make a game that’s built upon the ”fear of the uknown” since you’ll rather quickly figure out how things work in the game, you need some kind of story/mission to drive the gameplay. For example in Alien Isolation your mission is not simply ”survive”, it’s to do tasks while navigating around the Alien. Much more difficult to pull off in an open world game like this :( Don’t get me wrong, I would love a war of the worlds game, but I have a hard time seeing how to make it without it quickly becomming boring.
If this is going to be Game accurate, You should recrearte the cilinder escene as good as possible. And, please, hive the trípods that crab biomechanical look, as described un the book.
I remember when the 2005 war of the worlds scared me (is was born in 2008 and was the movie when I was 2) and those Tripods walking around killing of taking everyone I knew in my nightmares! But I wasn't scared for very long.
