I am of Italian descent. Grandparents from Italy, My mother used to make a dish that I would like to have every day. You use the male Zucchini flowers so you do not lose the fruit. recipe 1 egg, 1/2 C milk, and 1/4 t baking powder then mix in enough flour that will coat the flower without running off. Fry flowers in about 1/2 " of canola oil until golden brown Drain on a paper towel and add salt and Parmazon cheese if desired. Then sit and enjoy your meal. P.J. Malchiodi San Diego Ca.

In my area, Missouri, we fight squash bugs, vine borers, and Japenese beetles as well as powdery mildew when growing squash and zucchini. The home depot buckets were not big enough for my zucchini. I may try another variety next year.

What is the benefit of having the water in a bucket below the bucket they’re growing in? Do the roots grow down into the bottom bucket into the water? Through the air? Do they not air prune? So curious. I do wicking tubs but this can’t wick. Thanks for answers!

I saw this done with Thai musk melon on youtube and was wondering the same thing. I think the roots eventually reach the water and get oxygen from the air space, like the Kratky method.
@@truthbetold2611 but, that does nothing to help with watering frequency. And because of the hole in the lower bucket, and the gap between the 2 buckets, water can never reach the bottom of the bucket that the plants are in. So what is the purpose?

This pepper expert uses double cup system, first watering on the top, then when roots appear on bottom of top cup, use bottom cup as reservoir to wick up by the roots. To provide adequate drainage. With putting the hole in the bottom bucket, no matter how hard the rain, the roots will never sit in water. 15:00

Why did you put hole punched bucket into another bucket ?
Purpose??
It seems that the "multi-holed bucket" (top bucket) is placed in another bucket (bottom bucket) that only has an "overflow hole", say 10 centimetres from the base, and the purpose of the bottom bucket is to provide a reservoir for the plant's roots but if too much water enters the bottom bucket it will escape via the overflow hole? If I've got it right...the bottom bucket (with a permanent hole in it) seems an expensive alternative to a saucer? But...I can see that in hot weather such a relatively large source of water could prove to be more reliable than a water-filled saucer or flower pot bottom.
