Travel back to 1959 twice on Steep Hill, Lincoln

  • I was tempted to move away from Steep Hill for today's time shift, but the two old photos in this one are so good I couldn't wait to share them!
As well as being more or less in the same place, albeit looking in opposite directions up and down Steep Hill, there is a wonderful connection between them. They were both supplied by Lesley Blanch Rose, and were taken by her father Bob in 1959, and feature Lesley and her twin sister.
The first half of the video is looking towards the junction with Michaelgate, with the timber framed Harlequin in the centre. The famous "crooked house" on the right is currently being renovated behind scaffolding. It was kind of the driver to park their car in almost exactly the same place as the one in 1959! Although my eyes are drawn to the beautiful old Morris Traveller behind it!
The second half of the video shows the familiar last section of the hill before the relief of reaching the top, with the twins on the left. The buildings on the left haven't changed much, but the one on the right has gained a new window.

My eye was caught more by the limousine on the right - something exotic like an Armstrong Siddeley or a Lagonda.

    Does that car appear twice?

It would be a clever trick if it did :)
