*Near Mint has my permission to pin this comment, because I want everyone to see how good this book is! This Omnibus was one of the first Omnis I ever bought (I think the third?) and this run introduced me to 616 Spider-Man. Not only is it my favorite 616 Spider-Man run (the first 36 issues are flawless in my opinion), it is the best modern Spider-Man run that fully understands the character and makes him a true Spider-MAN. Issue 500 made me dang near cry, "Interlude" and "The Conversation" were heartbreaking, "Vibes" was incredible...and "Coming Home" is, in my humble opinion, the greatest Spider-Man story of the modern age (as in 2000 to now). I consider myself a Spider-Man aficionado, and I implore anyone who is looking to get into the character: PLEASE pick this book up. The character work between Peter, May, and MJ (The Parker Family) makes this one of the best reads you'll experience.
@@BowmansWorld Well, that's the beauty of comics; there's plenty of wonderful runs to choose from! I quite like Dan Slott's run and Ultimate Spider-Man too.

Such a great run by JMS. Took huge risks with Spider Man, and had a definitive ending coming. Of course, there were a few things I absolutely despised ( Gwen Stacy) but he had a payoff we did not get to read. It's disgraceful how Marvel editorial stepped in. It's ok to finish a character and story. Look at Invincible. A beginning, a middle and an end. Marvel had that here and failed on an epic level from which Spidey never recovered. Can they bring back JMS to finish what he started?
They could but unfortunately I don't think that will ever happen but then again maybe that Joe casada is no longer with the company maybe it's a possibility I hope so because to me it seems like he never even wanted to write one more day he was just forced to I could be wrong but that's what it seems like in my opinion

Amazing!! This was my most wanted omnibus reprint for last year! I’m so excited for this, my vol. 2 is still sealed. I’m not sure but I think I’ll go for the DM cover! Thank you Omar for this fantastic overview!!
I ended up getting one of the copied of the original printing for this, and then ended up getting one of the square spine printings of vol.2, so I'm set on the Spider-Man side. What I'm really waiting for is the Thor by JMS reprint, which hasn't had a new printing for nearly 12 years now. I hope the long wait is due to something like expanding it as a new omnibus to include small run between JMS and Fraction's run, by Gillan, and not because of something more complicated. Hopefully something happens on that front in the coming year.
I was going to preorder this ...but i got Very lucky and someone on ebay had listed this omnibus vol 1 and 2 'sealed' from the first print run 'flat square binding' and was selling them together for $100.00! I hit that Buy It Now faster than a spidermans webbing and got them!
I bought most of these issues when they first came out and I was already a Babylon 5 fan. As far as I remember, they were my first issues of Amazing Spider-Man ever. Just great! I really should have bought one of the printings of this omnibus when it first came out. They have become really expensive now, and I'm seriously thinking about buying the Kindle edition until, hopefully, there will be a third printing. And yes, I did vote for it in the in the Marvel Omnibus 2024 Reprint Poll. I really hope many others did as well.
I wasn't gonna bother getting this as I already have the trades but this video just reminded me how much I loved the first half of this run so just ordered myself a copy!

Super grateful that many of the OOP books are getting reprinted but it’s a shame about the paper stock and printing quality. At least this book is back out in the market again which is a good thing. Thanks Omar!
I love this run, the TPB vol. 1 was actually my first ever comic book and Spidey has always been my favorite superhero. But I have to disagree about the 9/11 issue and the reaction of the villains. These people have literally enslaved, bombed, and murdered innocents for years and years, and yet they draw the line here? That just never sat right with me and felt like surface-level emotional manipulation. Will still be getting this, though. 😄
Right there with you on the villains reactions to 9/11. It REALLY rankled me that Doom of all people would react the way he did. THAT issue was the only one I had issues with.
I was really considering picking this up , as I remember reading these issues when I was a kid and loving them! I only wish that Marvel would consider giving modern stories, from 1998 onwards, the kind of Epic Collection treatment that they’ve afforded the stories leading up to the late nineties. I understand there are complete collections/ultimate collections but most of those are long out of print and are near impossible to get ahold of for a reasonable price in 2022, and Marvel doesn’t seem to be in the habit of reprinting those, which I’ve often found strange, given that they’re quite willing to reprint Epics and Omnibuses. I do own multiple omnibuses but I’ve found they’re quite cumbersome to sit with and don’t give me that “relaxing-with-a-comic-book” feeling that you get with paperbacks/shorter volumes. Here’s hoping that one day Marvel might consider releasing a “Modern Epic Line” to cater to those of us that prefer these fantastic post-1998 stories in paperback. As always, great work, Omar!
"Until the stars turn cold" 😭 (or until OMD..) This run has the best characterization for Peter Parker, Mary Jane and Aunt May. I love it so much. It was the last time Peter Parker was Peter Parker, true to the character's history. After volume 2, Marvel soft rebooted the character and he's never been the same since. Even though this run includes (probably) the 2 worst Spider-man stories ever, it's still one of the best Spider-man runs. This shows how good the rest of the material is. And those 2 stories can be ignored, as they were not how the writer indended them to be. They were forced by Marvel's editors.
Spencer corrected one of those awful stories, so I read it with that in mind now. I wish he was allowed to fix the other even worse one, but I believe editorial wouldn't let him.
Yeah Peter just hasn't been the same since OMD. The only time since that when I have felt that somebody really understood him was during the few short stories by Roger Stern during Brand New Day.
This run was one of the big ones that got me back into comics. I was buying it monthly then. My first issue was #30 (which would have been an excellent variant cover btw). So this, Morrison’s New X-Men, Bruce Jones’ Hulk and Daredevil are why I’m reading comics again.
People who are asking for the volume 2 reprint have no idea what they’re asking for honestly. It sucks except for the Back in Black story. One More Day is awful, The Other isn’t good, and Skin Deep stinks too. It is a disaster where you should just stop before Sins Past in this volume.
Just the other day I got The Amazing Spider-Man by J. Michael Straczynski Omnibus Vol. 1 (2nd printing) (Mike Deodato direct market variant cover) for half price, brand new at a local comics shop having a post-Christmas/ New Year's sale offering graphic novels at half price for the entire month of January. I'm in Canada and it was half of the Canadian cover price down to $78.13 before taxes. I had no intention of even getting the book, as I had read and collected the series at the time, but it's been many years since I've read writer J. Michael Straczynski's run on Amazing Spider-Man, and seeing the book as part of the sale, I was motivated to give this era a re-read again. I thought JMS' run was good overall, but I thought it started getting stale towards the end with stories such as "Sins Past" was questionable, and then the finale to his run "One More Day" which was controversial for dropping Peter and Mary Jane's marriage wiped off, as then Marvel editor-in-chief Joe Quesada wanted their marriage gone, thinking it ages up the character and new younger readers can't relate to Spidey being married. Kept hearing JMS was reluctant about this plot idea and connecting it to the Civil War event as well, which JMS was not a fan of writing his stories tying in to crossover events, which led to his later runs on both Thor and Fantastic Four being short stints, after his experience with dealing crossover events at Marvel which he disliked.
Think this book was the first comic i owned in one of those UK marvel hardcovers and i loved it, trying to decide if i want to get the omnibus for the full story So once again thank you for these super helpful videos
@@Indycowboy2 Extremely disappointing and unacceptable, Marvel is keep lowering their costs and quality and increasing their profit margin, they have become greedy. A lot of Omnibus editions are being printed in Imak printer in Turkey because the Turkish lira has dramatically lost it’s value compared to dollars for the past year. So it’s like 1 dollars is 16 Turkish liras, It costs like 5 dollars to print these omnis in there, shame on Marvel for lowering quality
I was reading this run as it was coming out but stopped buying floppies about 50 issues into it. I didn’t get the Omni the first time around. Seeing the paper comparison makes me wish I had but I’ll still be ordering the reprint. Campbell cover is a must for me.
I’ve been looking forward to this book for quite a while now. I preordered the DM cover. I haven’t read Spider-Man since the early 90s and looking forward to getting back into it. Sounds like this will be a great re-entry to the character.
Thanks nail much for this flipthrough. I grew up reading the JMS run in middle school on the ASM The Last 20 years disc, and it was absolutely phenomenal. Years later and it, particularly the JRJR run, is the DEFINING run of Spider-Man for me, and the most respectful to the character I have seen to date. I so want to own the hardcover. How is the thickness of the pages? are they super thin ? I picked up the Scarlet Spider v2 HC and Family business HC and sadly the pages are like tissue paper. Hopefully that's not the case here.
No because at issue 30 its basically a fresh start new writer and steady artist jr Jr if you have a basic knowledge of spidey this would best the best spot ever to start reading legendary run of comics up until sins past such a grounded run of spidey and great writer jms understand spiderman and more importantly peter parker
Love the art. Never thought of getting this book, I'm just an X-Men and Thor guy. But you're kinda selling me on this one... Fine if it goes on sale for less than $90 I'll grab this.
Honestly, Aunt May should know that Peter is Spiderman at this point. They retcon that some many times now that's getting ridiculous. Heck, even Miles's parents knew about him being Spiderman! There's no need for everyone to know Peter is Spidey. Just his loved ones and close friends are enough. I believe that would add to his mythos. Such as him being a parent. Looking at you 90s Spiderman run and OMD.
Not thrilled about that amount of bleed through but I can't afford a first print run. Gonna get the standard cover, because it has Venom on it, and I am a shameless Venom girl. Hopefully it sells enough to justify reprinting Vol. 2 relatively soon!
@@Vaikyuko fair play! That's a super dope cover. Could always have a 3rd party print it for you. I was afraid it could be a few years before a reprint so I had to purchase. FOMO got me
I could never convince myself to pick this up. This is my definitive ASM run, but I simply couldn't bring myself to own the last 6 issues of this omni. I hope Marvel eventually does a JMS and Romita Jr book, maybe. But like, #508 is the end for me.
The teenager in me is heartbroken to pass up on J Michael "Babylon 5" Straczynski.....But Sins Past, ultimately leading to One More Day....Ah, I gotta save my money/shelf space for some other collections.
Ultimate Spider-Man because you actually want to finish it. You need to stop after Romita Jr. is done since then the run stinks outside of Back in Black.
@@BowmansWorld longer is not always better, The supporting cast of characters are developed really well in JMS run. MJ, Aunt May, his students, relationship with Avengers, Ezekiel and so forth. Personally I think Slott overstayed his welcome. I did enjoy Superior Spider-Man, spiderverse, and spidergeddon. I’ll re read Stan Lees run before Slott. But at the end of the day to each their own.
I enjoyed Slott's run but that was not Peter Parker. Marvel soft rebooted the character to make him feel younger and more immature. But he never was the same after it (with the exception of Superior but he was barely a supporting character during that time).
I'm sure it means something to you, but Doom crying at 9/11 will never make any sense to me. Magneto, maybe, Kingpin, absolutely, but Doom? No version of Doom would see that day as anything more than another day, maybe a slightly more interesting one to take note of and that's all.
@@donaldallen9804 A very good story? Absolutely not where it’s considered one of the worst Spider-Man stories for a reason. It’s not for anyone honestly unless you are into your girlfriend having sex with the person you hate most who is who old enough to be her father. The love of Peter’s life has sex with Norman who was her father’s age since she feels bad for him and has his children that grow faster? Absolutely abysmal and disgusting. Peter never even had sex with her which is stated in the story. There are panels shown of Norman and Gwen together. Now if you’re into that, more power to you, but you are in the minority on that one and for good reason. It makes the death of Gwen Stacy worse and MJ also knew which makes it worse too. Just absolute trash. The best part of Nick Spencer’s run was retconning Sins Past where JMS still apologizes for it. You are the first person I have heard call it a very good story let alone interesting. Car wrecks could be seen as interesting, but they’re not good.
I ONLY read or collect Spider-Man from the 70's, 80's & 90's. I hate what Marvel started doing with Spider-Man after 1999. For example, Gwen Stacy or One More Day. Why couldn't Marvel just CREATE DIVERSITY the OLD FASHION WAY? Let Peter Parker & Mary Jane Parker make a little Spider Baby. Spider-Man fans could watch Peter's daughter grow up to be Spider-Girl to carry on her father's legacy! And it's just MY OPINION, but John Romita JR IS NOT HALF AS GOOD an artist as Mike Deodato Jr., I would have been tempted to keep reading Spider-Man if Deodato Jr. was drawing the book instead of JR JR. I have NEVER liked JR JR's art. I hated it when he came onto the X-Men book in the 90's. Because when I look at his 90's art and all the way up to today, ALL I can think of is MINECRAFT. And Straczynski CAN'T TOUCH Roger Stern or David Michelinie!
I love this series because of Peter's relationship with everyone 😅. I think his relationships with MJ and aunt May are the best ever in this book. Ultimate is awesome too, but it's another universe.
It’s not where it’s so long and other than Big Time which is a good sequel to this run and Superior Spider-Man, the run is a lot more miss than hit. It was unnecessarily long.

Hi, when is the Thor "where to start reading" series coming...
Still rooting for a Michellinie and Bagley run of Amazing Spider Man Omnibus
Damn, that colour brightness is noticeable but agreed in that it is definitely not a deterrent to getting this for first time
The best modern Spidey run hands down, no matter the few really bad stories. But when it's good it's so good 👌
Can’t wait for this, been waiting a few years for it!
Think this book was the first comic i owned in one of those UK marvel hardcovers and i loved it, trying to decide if i want to get the omnibus for the full story
So once again thank you for these super helpful videos
Finally, i had this book pre-ordered months in advance.
Imak printer razor thin paper has become a trend, it is really annoying to see the next page panels to bleed through the previous pages :/
Really annoying and disappointing. Almost makes me not want to get it.. almost
Any idea on whether Marvel will release an ASM: DeFalco/Frenz omnibus?
Now if only we can get the clone saga and ben reilly reprints
you mean clone saga? Id love star wars era clone wars!

I was reading this run as it was coming out but stopped buying floppies about 50 issues into it.
I didn’t get the Omni the first time around. Seeing the paper comparison makes me wish I had but I’ll still be ordering the reprint.
Campbell cover is a must for me.
Videos like these makes me realize how little Spiderman I've read. I started with Big Time and Dan Slott.
Question for ones who've read this omni:
Isn't the story hard to follow at the start of the book since it collects issues 30-58 and not from issue 1?
No because at issue 30 its basically a fresh start new writer and steady artist jr Jr if you have a basic knowledge of spidey this would best the best spot ever to start reading legendary run of comics up until sins past such a grounded run of spidey and great writer jms understand spiderman and more importantly peter parker
Love the art. Never thought of getting this book, I'm just an X-Men and Thor guy. But you're kinda selling me on this one... Fine if it goes on sale for less than $90 I'll grab this.
Organic priced books is currently selling at #85 and they have both covers.
Thanks for this, it was really intresting!
Is it worth getting this omni if you already own all the "best of spiderman" hardcovers?
Hola. Cuando creen que salga el omnibus de amazing spiderman vol 4, reimpresión.
Great! Now let's get a reprint of volume 2 😅
You can still buy Vol 2. I just did a few days ago
@@Indycowboy2 where can i get one
I wonder how would they map Dan Slott's ASM run. 10 years worth.
I've been terribly excited for this!
Not thrilled about that amount of bleed through but I can't afford a first print run. Gonna get the standard cover, because it has Venom on it, and I am a shameless Venom girl. Hopefully it sells enough to justify reprinting Vol. 2 relatively soon!
You can still buy Vol 2. Check IST. Got a copy a few days ago. $77
@@Indycowboy2 I know, but I wanted the Garney DM cover - black suit! haha
@@Vaikyuko fair play! That's a super dope cover. Could always have a 3rd party print it for you. I was afraid it could be a few years before a reprint so I had to purchase. FOMO got me
Is there a sequel to this omnibus? And if so are they gonna reprint it or is only the original one available?
There is a volume 2. Is it out of print?
@@NearMintCondition yes
Been waiting for your review of this Omni before buying. Great review Omar, excited to get it. You think we'll get Vol 2 reprinted next year?
I got the email confirmation that this book is on its way to me and I can’t wait to read this. As always great overview 🔥🔥
I could never convince myself to pick this up. This is my definitive ASM run, but I simply couldn't bring myself to own the last 6 issues of this omni. I hope Marvel eventually does a JMS and Romita Jr book, maybe. But like, #508 is the end for me.
ASM has officially ended at 500 for me. It's cringe worst dumpster fire for me. Nick spencer did justice but yeah. I hate it current run.
My order for this omni just shipped super excited to bad I can’t read any of my Spider-Man stuff in order because I don’t have asm 1
I hope they reprint Vol. 2!!!
OMAR, first off, comment for the algorithm. Second if I have "best of spider-man" vol's 1-4 do I need to get this?
This will contain more with volume 2.
Hi Omar: if u have money for 1 omni then which Spidey will you pick? 1. JMS or 2. Bendis??
I have money for 1 and cannot decide
JMS...most people will say Bendis though. :)
I will go by your suggestion. I chose JSA bcos u said it was great and I loved every page
The teenager in me is heartbroken to pass up on J Michael "Babylon 5" Straczynski.....But Sins Past, ultimately leading to One More Day....Ah, I gotta save my money/shelf space for some other collections.
Super bummed about the thin paper. Expect better from Marvel
Binding looks much tighter for the new printing
I can’t find this book on any of the recommended websites and Amazon says out of print. Anybody else having trouble finding this for preorder?
Comes out Tuesday.
@@NearMintCondition ah okay. So I guess preorder is closed and we should be able to just add it to the cart on Tuesday?
Oh so very nice
If you had to choose between this run or Ultimate Spider-man which one would you choose?
This one every day
I’d vote Ultimate for sure!
Ultimate Spider-Man because you actually want to finish it. You need to stop after Romita Jr. is done since then the run stinks outside of Back in Black.
Waiting for Aliens vol 3!
Sweet graphics
Me gusta la historia en la que Peter llega a Perú, al templo de la Araña.
Viva Peru Carajo!
Spider-Man was never as good after this run. Slott had some good stories but none of them hold a candle to JMS.
The main 616 JMS and Romita Jr. run, yes. That’s what the first omnibus should be, but Sins Past being in there sucks.
@@DanV900 I have a sticky note that says skip this and go to volume 2.
Bs. Dan slott has the best spidey run. He run was so much longer and more varied and actually developed peters main villains
I like the sentiment they were going for with 9/11 but doom really only cares for himself and maybe his people.
Been waiting for this… but just a little disappointed with print quality. 😞
Hi
Hi again
@@AryaChowdhuryMusic hello how's your day
@@jeffreyowenschulte Doing great, thanks. How is your day going?
Hello there!
Hi 👋
If only the atrocious Sins Past wasn’t in it, it would be a perfect omnibus. It’s why I will never own it and will just keep my collections.
you could always cut it out. :)
@@mattthompson3371 I would feel too guilty cutting out the pages even though theoretically I could lol.
Sins past was a very good story it wasn't for everyone but it was interesting
Sins Past and One More Day were awful. The rest is a very nice, different take on the hero.
Just my opinion : I didn't much like this series cuz of peters Rocky relationship with everyone
PS : ultimate is my favourite
I love this series because of Peter's relationship with everyone 😅.
I think his relationships with MJ and aunt May are the best ever in this book.
Ultimate is awesome too, but it's another universe.
@@hankmoody4610 that's what makes the comics special there are different books for different people...
@@abivallamattam of course. there is so much material.
Dan slott run is better.
It’s not where it’s so long and other than Big Time which is a good sequel to this run and Superior Spider-Man, the run is a lot more miss than hit. It was unnecessarily long.
Love your new overlays! Pro tip tho: put it on *screen* blend mode and you’ll see that little black border around the lightning disappear!
I just cannot justify having Sins Past on my shelf.
This run was just okay to me and the art was terrible 👎🏾
That is some pretty bad cartoony art. 🤦🏼♂️
