I was like ten years old watching it with my family and my dad send me to go sleep after the first half, saying that this match is technically over and i went on to have a nightmare of brazil making a comeback in the second half and Germany losing 5:6 😂
This was my first World Cup that I really paid attention to as a true football fan and I was truly in shock during this match. I turned off the tv after the 5th goal went in because I couldn’t watch in horror anymore. I did turn the tv back on just in time to see Oscar’s goal though 😂
2014 World Cup was generational for many reasons. The last time Spain and England went out in a group stage at any tournament; the last time we saw Italy at a World Cup to date; Costa Rica and Colombia in the quarters; the last time Germany qualified for the knockouts (and won the cup); the last time no Asian side reached the knockouts and the tournament of Brazil's humilation. I don't even think witnessing Nerherlands and Italy failing to qualify for subsequent tournaments can even be compared to Brazil's 2014 debacle because it's obvious both sides have been declining.
I am from Germany and of course know where I watched that game. On some school theater camp where we all gathered to watch it on a big projector screen. I got drunk for the first time back then. Not hammered, but my first few strong drinks (I was 16). I was not convinced they would win the game after the first 2 goals. But you had to blink once and they were 5:0 in the lead. What I admire to this day is how Jogi Löw handled the situation during half time. „We are guests in their country. And if anybody thinks he can make a fool out of them, then he can be sure that he will miss the *eventual* final“ He and and a lot of the country didnt forget how hard it is to lose a semi final at home.
I was watching in france with my friends german grandfather who moved to france when he joined the foreign legion. He spent a lot of the game telling us stories from when he joined and he had a shot of schnapps for every goal they scored and then another 7 at the end of the game. What a man and what a game!
In a way German football died that day as well. It was their last World Cup semi final until today as well. And Germany is in a decline since then too. The DFB also became very arrogant after winning the World Cup in 2014. (They start to get better again in 2024 but especially 2018-2023 were dark years for German football)
Euro 2016 was a good tournament We bascially lost to France because of 3 key players missing and Schweinsteiger silly handball The whole mess started in 2018
This was a perfect storm for Ze Germans, but I think that Uruguy loss galvanised the nation and created champions. Brazil will recover, not likely we'll see Joga Bonito again, but a world beating team, certainly. Great vid Fray!
I just watched one game of this world cup since i was a child and my parents we‘re pretty stricted with going early to bed - and it was no other than Brazil vs Germany, it‘s still unbelievable ad it was back then
I missed the first half of the match cause I was in a sports competition. I pull up to a friends dad and asked him what’s the score, he said 5-0 and I just laughed and told him to tell me the real score
I remember being an 8 year old and coming downstairs as my dad had the game on. I didn't really care about the tournament as a whole and knew nothing about football other than Brazil were quite good. I don't remember the exact scoreline I came down to - I think it was 5-0 - but I remember being absolutely bewildered by it and watching the rest of the game with my dad. It's probably the first time I was really captivated by sport.
Remembering watching the build up to this match and just felt that Germany would win. When the scoring started it just seem that everything the players for Germany touch was gold. Brazil had no answer. The talk before the game was all mostly about Neymar Jr not playing though it was Silva who was the biggest lost for Brazil.
@@basedelon Yeah as Germany were poor. Also it was in Brazil. But Silva being missing was the biggest lost for Brazil. Half time was funny as those pundits where shocked beyond shocked. My friends were too I just said why you all shock ? its zee Germans its what happens.
After the opening couple of matches of this world cup, I made the decision to not watch, because the refs performances in the Brazil games were so biased, that I just refused outright, as FIFA and the refs had already decided Brazil were going to win the tournament. Once Neymar was injured (again, the fault of the refs as they didn't want to book Brazilian players commiting fouls, so couldn't book the opposition player when he did exactly what Brazil had been doing, and Neymar got a taste of the justice his teammates were beinb allowed to hand out with impunity), I then realised they'd fucked themselves and if anyone was going to save football and beat the cheats, then it would be Germany, so I decided to watch the game. One of the best moments in footballing history and utterly deserved. \Glad the corrupt refs and officials were taken out of the equation, and football won the day. For clarification, I have nothing against Brazil, and wouldn't normally gloat over their defeat, but in this instance, they fully deserved to be beaten, as they were being ushered through games by officials, and I'm glad justice was done, as (unlike FIFA) I view cheating as morally repugnant.
Simply put, this Brazilian team was not good. Look at their squad, besides Neymar, Thiago Silva, Marcelo and Cesar, who would even have a chance of getting into the 2006 squad? Or even the 2022 squad? Their chances were inflated by the allure of Neymar but once he was gone, the inexperience and lack of talent was exposed.
I was in an apartment in Fayetteville, laughing maniacally during the first half. I had been supporting Germany since the cup started and was Colombian, so it felt great both knowing I had sided with the better team and a lot of us Colombians were sour with the way the Brazil-Colombia game had been officiated, so it was basically a party for us watching Brazil take it up the arse like that 😂
It my brothers 10th birthday and we were prepping at the house, my mom left for a second to pick up some ice. When she got back, she asked for the score and she couldnt believe it, my brother also went outside for a second and thought I was lying when I called him in to see the score
When you see Brazil struggling mightly to beat Chile and the players cry right after, you know they're done. That team was not good and they believed they could win because they were Brazil. The only defense the awful Cameroon team could score. I wasn't expecting Brazil to win that game by any means, at most a gutsy match. Instead, they were too sad because Neymar was not there and didn't even try.
The 7 - 1 defeated for Brazil is a painful memory that they want to forget. But that defeated could be used as a learning experience for them. Like not heavy relying on a star player, and to think a strategy on the opponents that they will face. I feel like Brazil are overconfident on their matches against their opponents which I understand that they won the World Cup 5 times and they are the best. But in football and life, there is no small enemies. Sure the current coach may hold Brazil back and not using their footballer’s talents at their best. But I think that they still heavy relying on their star players. Like Vini Jr, Endrick, etc. Sure they’re talented and everything but they still young. Putting a lot of pressure on them would make them to crumble under the pressure and lose some confidence. There is still time for Brazil to fix their current issues in their qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup at North America. But if they don’t do that, Brazil will struggle even more in their qualifiers. The possibility of not seeing Brazil in the next World Cup could happen because life and football are very mysterious that it is hard to make a perfect prediction and outcome.
It was fitting that the Nation who has the most WC Medals, WC QFs, WC Semis & 8 WC Finals, had to be the 1 to Trash Brazil. The most Consistent Nation of All Times Germany
Honestly I think Brazil deserved to be beat 7-1. They literally cheated against Colombia. They as host intentionally ruled an onside goal offside just bc they wanted the win. They were supposed to lose in the quarterfinals bc since 2002 they’ve always lost in the quarterfinals to a European team except this one time since they cheated as host. I’m sure them losing 7-1 and then 3-0 at home was karma for that
There was no cheating against Colombia. Both of Brazil’s goals were perfectly onside (I mean the second goal was literally a direct free kick lol). If anyone cheated in that match, it was Colombia since Zuñigá literally broke Neymar’s back and no red card was given, the ref didn’t even call a foul.
This match was held in midnight in Bangladeshi local time 2:30 am. I still remember what really happened. So I woke up at 3 am (already 30 mins late). But I had a feeling that it's only been 30 mins, the score line is still zero all. As soon as I turned on the TV, I simply couldn't believe Germany were already 5-0 up within 33 mins. I got so angry that I immediately turned off the TV and went back to sleep. The next morning, I removed the Brazilian flag from my balcony (it's a tradition in Bangladesh to put flag of the country you support in every FIFA World Cup). On the other hand, my cousin came to my house for a stayover watched the whole match and laughed at me the whole day as he was supporting Germany during that tournament.
Brazil were pegged as favourites for 2014, really? Germany was my pick long before a ball was kicked - you could see what they were cooking after 2006 and 2010. Brazil were all style, no substance and I think people fluff up Brazil too much with their 5 wins. It's alright getting a dodgy penalty against Croatia and squeezing past Colombia but I knew once they met a top team they'd be beaten and beaten easily. 3 or 4 I expected, not 7.
I'll only say this: The CBF (Brazil Confederation) and the players sold this game. It was a fix, to embarass the government at the time. Meanwhile they dragged our seleção into the mud. Not the first time it happened and it won't be the last.
Let me know where you were when Brazil lost 7-1 to Germany down below 👇🏼
Thank you all for watching!
excellent vid again Fray, keep it coming!
I played football myself that day in my official Brazilian shirt then watched the match in the evening at home...

I remember Germany vs Sweden in 2018, watched in London. I fell asleep, woke when Kroos scored in stoppage time. Terrible game.

Agreed, Thiago Silva was the glue to that backline and without him, they were wide open!
