Norman Pain's got a good amount of lore surrounding him in his lyrics. How much is real, and how much is just his character is up for debate though. But there's probably some crossover. But the basic story is that he went to prison for a long stretch, and in the interim his parents died, his wife left him, and she also stopped him seeing his children, which pushed him into depression, addiction and homelessness.
I saw the video yesterday 11-03-2024, I felt the music . I am a Nigerian living in Nigeria, the music got my attention and for a long time never heard of this kind. It's an A-class.
Referencing Ghost in the shell and The Ring are probably the best giveaways for ghostwriter. Not saying Norman or any of the other geezer deserve less recognition for that. Just putting that out. There's more people cooking than just Norman, and they deserve some love too.
@@TheCvltGhost in the Shell and The Ring were out nearly 30 years ago in the mid to late 90s so I don't think it's much of a stretch to think that he'd have good knowledge of them, but I reckon Pete and Bas have much, much more ghost writing going on. Definitely a lot of credit wherever it's due though!
I’m not scared to be me bro. All of me. The good and the bad. People need to start being more honest with who they are vs worrying about perception. Sometimes we up, sometimes we down you know?!
I like how much Dash vibed with this. Nothing gets you hype like matching wavelengths with another person's depression. That's the place in your heart where toxic relationships come from.
I hear you but trust depression is usually built from toxic relationships and trust i don’t want nothing to do with any toxic relationships ever again. Friend, family or females
He’s speaking from experience he did a hit and run and though he could hide it by hiding both the bodies in the trunk and he served 18 years during then his family didn’t visit him and when he got out his parents have already passed away and his wife took the kids and went away without him knowing where they went

you should check out norman pain - sonnet if you haven't already. like you really really should, it's darker, more insight into his background and life. you'll like it, and if you don't like it you have bad taste, but i have watched you guys on and off for a while now so i'm pretty certain you'll like it, even if you don't relate or vibe as much as i do.
This is straight up poetry. That's the other half of what the OGs are flinging. Pete and Bas roll in like 7 different musical genres, and they got the delivery because they got the background in music (there's everything from jazz to ska to eurodance to damned barbershop quartet moves in what they do). But the other component is actual, legit high grade poetry. PnB stick to the Gangsta aesthetic (mad cross section of it across ages and subcultures, mind you) but Norman and his mate tap way more into slam. Disco Elysium North Sea Despair style. Mates and I called this cringecore when Balkan rappers picked up on it some 10 years back. Its orphaned genres and arts that lost a public venue to reach audiences as the world and the media and the trends shifted, but these geezers managed to grab attention and are just machine gunning the air with it all. Men need to be able to talk about hard times with out other ppl turning it into a joke, it is ez laughing when it feels awkward and then that hard shipt turns into awkwardnes. No dissrespect tho, you guys seems to have a awesome energy together! Sorry for long comment, got a friend not feeling well so it spoke to me! Have a nice day!
Food for thought as well, Norman talks about money only two times in the whole session once were he said he didn't care and a vocal voice over that says stacks, so maybe he isn't talking about making property back. Cause if you are a crack head your mind is prolly pretty fried, and making back some sort of sanity after such an ordeal must be a pretty big victory for a 50+ something.. Nice content also!
Okay, I found picking up pennies and being broke. And now I am starting to think about the clothes, when you are a crack head I would imaging that your standards are getting pretty low and everything I've seen of him shows that this is how he dresses in real life as well.. Goddammit there is so much to analyize about Norman it is riddick. I would imaging that his selfimage och feel of security comes from "I don't care anymore" not from swag.
It all just make sence if you see Norman for what he prolly used to be, the crazy person outside the mall that your mom was afraid of and for good reason, he would prolly have ripped of that pretty little blonds pearls anytime of the week for some more of the good stuff!
This is something. This is the last few years and a few more of aftermath of the crazy life I had between 20 and 29. It was just booze, but it wasn’t how much I drank, it was how I drank. If you know you know.
whatever you're going through man, we send love! Trust me we'll all be okay even when life is trying its best to tell you otherwise. It'll be alright. keep doing what you're doing. best channel on youtube. Lets fuckin go man!
You saying that you were late to Norman about having nothing and then making it all back is genuinely funny because you didn’t spend 18 years of your life in prison for involuntary manslaughter of two people lost everybody you knew and love while you were in prison because no one told you your wife ran away with your kids, and then you spent eight years homeless on the streets before two friends pick you back up

I though he was a teacher from what I'd read.
He was a teacher. That much is 💯. The rest is likely lore for the character. Either way it's really good stuff

The Sadako bar is HARD. A lot of people miss it because they don't know that's the name of the girl from The Ring.
I left that on the video, like how is he gonna hit us with a Ghost in the Shell reference then drop that 🔥 Sadako bar!
That’s actually sick now that you’ve said that. Omg, never disappointed with Pete &bas / Norman pain etc .. 🙌🏼

The line also plays very creatively with the blood in the ring, since the Sadako claw is an actual japanese wrestling move
I like that the "I just want to feel pain!" Line has a double meaning as in he wants to feel something, or he wants to feel (like Norman) Pain again.
To have a men's mental health moment, talk that talk.
The darkness is an obstacle, a signal that grows louder every time you silence it.
FACTS N IT GOES FOR EVERYBODY. MAN OR WOMAN. NEVER HOLD THAT PAIN INSIDE TALK ABOUT IT.
Props for being open about your depression. Specially in the hip hop space which can be super macho.
