I got this pump through insurance because I thought I was ordering the old school PISA, I absolutely detest this pump it is loud, let downs are super difficult to achieve and the suction is way too low. Very very disappointing, Baby Buddha is arriving today really Hoping it saves my breastfeeding journey with this babe
I should also add I can absolutely tell this is not emptying me whatsoever, I’ve been an under supplier this go around and think it’s this pumps fault!!
Thanks for covering this pump, I feel so validated. 😅 I got this exact pump through my insurance when I knew nothinf about pumps. It really threw me for a loop as I could not get a decent output, even though I had a good supply when breastfeeding. Ended up getting an emergency manual breast pump, and then later using a spectra S1. Both give me at least 2x what I got with this pump. It's just terrible.
@@morganbrown8998their manual pump (harmony) which is the one I got as an emergency is actually pretty decent. I've heard symphony is good but hella pricey. And their old pump in style advanced and freestyle flex (NOT the current updated models) I heard were good.
I’m from Canada and Medela has a monopoly in breast pumps. This is one of the few pumps moms can buy. This is really sad for Canadian moms who have issues pumping :( I actually ordered Pumpables GA and waiting for it to arrive.
A lot of moms buy it because it’s cheaper than the freestyle. I’m so happy I ordered a spectra when I had my nicu baby. There were so many nicu moms with this pump.
I am SO GLAD you covered this pump. I exclusively pump, and have not been able to pump enough to feed my son (needing 2 to 3 formula bottles a day to aupplement). He's 4 weeks old today. I bought the new max flow PIS with my own money, waiting for my baby buddha to arrive thru insurance. Now thinking of exclusively using my baby buddha with the baby buddha cups to increase my supply before we hit 12 weeks. Would you recommend that? So unimpressed with this pump. I don't want to buy formula anymore! I exclusively pumped with my daughter, and had a freezer stash by 6 months and could stop pumping altogether. I'd like to do that again! I can't afford to buy another pump, so I'm hoping the baby buddha can withstand exclusive pumping.
I got this for my first baby for free from Kaiser. I used it 5 times and HATED it. I agree, this thing is horrible. Even with correct flange size or inserts. The suction in the stimulation mode when you turned it on hurts, I always had to lower the sunction right after turning it on.
Yeah I tossed my old pump in style advanced pump because I thought with it not being a closed system I wasn’t sure about the safety of using it years later with baby 2 when it’s been sitting in a dusty basement etc. And why keep it, I was getting the new and improved version from insurance, right!?! Used it literally twice and then dug out my baby Buddha from baby 1 - thank goodness I still had it or my supply would have tanked.
@@genuinelactation Thankfully I already had my baby Buddha from exclusively pumping the first time around, so I wasn’t dependent on it! Forgot about that soul sucking first tug though and that was a heck of a wake up call after pumping for 10 minutes with the medela and wondering when it was going to start suctioning 😂 I really appreciated this video though because I actually gave away that “max flo” to someone (thinking ‘well not everybody responds to every pump. Maybe this pattern just doesn’t work for me anymore’.) I should message them and give them a heads up that it wasn’t just me…. It apparently doesn’t work for most people!
I’ve been using this pump since 5weeks pp (currently 11 weeks pp), it’s been working well for me (I think?). I usually get 3-4 oz per side. Now I’m nervous my supply will tank in the next few weeks. Which pump would you recommend. I had the spectra (blue one) through insurance, but didn’t know how to use it and got overwhelmed so I gave it to a friend. I ended up renting the Medela symphony for a month. I would like a more portable pump if possible. There are just so many pump options that I become so indecisive.
The medela swing maxi pump is also a giant piece of shit. Had a lot of problems with only 4 months of use. Had a flange break while taking it apart to wash and now it won’t charge.
I wish I saw this video months ago. I feel validated for hating this pump. Total buyer's remorse on this one. Just sad that I even had this shipped overseas. What a waste! 😢
The flanges are also terrible. I get significantly less using them hooked up to my Symphony, and it’s because the suction is just not there. I have to turn it up and max my symphony out (which would rip my entire nipples off with the OG flanges). They need to overhaul everything about this pump, the motor to the flanges.
@@anakoe Im glad you brought it up! If you own your symphony this could have killed it! The Symphony can not be used with backflow protectors successfully

Yeah with this pump it's almost 100% not the mom that is the issue! It's one of the worst pumps overall I've ever encountered!
Is there other better Medela pumps?

I absolutely love how blunt and honest you are 😂 I love your ind-depth technical knowledge too!! Thanks!
Life's too short to pretend something works if it doesn't- moms 100% deserve better than that!

It's really sad! Medela has a few good pumps but this isn't one and it's heartbreaking that moms end up stuck with it!

The BabyBuddha can handle EPing and they stand by their warranty so I think you will be pleased!

Could you do one of these for the Medela Swing Maxi please? I never see info on it anywhere!
