      @@DbrosVmaker Hi there, it can be up to $1000 and is basically stock of IBKR since they are stock listed, you can then just keep it or if you prefer sell it and cash out, your choice. Cheers

      @@DbrosVmaker it gives you 1 bucks per 100 you put in, it is connected to a affiliate link and if you put in ,,, i think it was 2000 bucks and dont lose it or take it out for a year you support the channel with 200 bucks. i would like to see how to daytrade and not use the TWS as this was just to hard for me to understand.
      i found the portal also a bit puzzling as im not sure if its doing strange things or if im just doing things wrong. im afraid its not the latter as i cant seem to find information explaining the more detailed buy and selling at a fast pase with IB. you can change the currency at will and only decides the accounts displaying. you can switch when ever. and converting the money in to a usd wallet only charges conversion ones allowing you to trade in dollars without fx costs for the active trader, or just changing investment positions.

    Great video. I’ve just started using IB. Could you do a video or explain the color coding / status colour when placing an order (pending etc). I know there’s descriptions for the status but would be great to have you go through them. Currently using paper trading getting my feet wet.

    The API looks very cool and what I find is that this website unlike every other broker I have checked so far is that it doesn't have any trackers on it.
    The only down side I think many brokers got is that you got to sell your soul in order to make an account. They want to know everything about you before you can do anything.

    • @SmartMoneywithKai
      @SmartMoneywithKai  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there! 🌟 You're spot on about the API-it's like the Swiss Army knife of trading tools, isn't it? 🔪🛠️
      As for the "soul-selling" part, you're preaching to the choir! 🎤 Brokers these days want to know your life story before you can even say "Buy low, sell high." 📈 It's like going on a first date and being asked about your 5-year plan, your credit score, and your grandma's maiden name-all before the appetizers arrive! 🍤😂
      But hey, that's the price of admission in the financial rollercoaster. 🎢 Just make sure you're strapping in for the right ride! 🚀 Cheers

      @@SmartMoneywithKai KYC just depresses me because it's hard to answer it all, the info can be used against you and data breaches happen that can leak all of it. It's a guilty until proven innocent approach. You could be the most innocent of people and you'll still need to give them all of the information you got for their mass surveillance because they don't trust you.
      And now even though I tried to answered it all and agreed to who knows what, in the end I do have an ID but no passport so it might not even be accepted.
      They also made bank transfers very hard so I'd need to get the only other option that is Wise. The government wants us to trust them while they don't trust us.

    • @SmartMoneywithKai
      @SmartMoneywithKai  ปีที่แล้ว

      That'a true, but sadly no way around it for the time-being. Hope it'll work out for you eventually. Good luck🤞

      Hi Simone👋 Thanks a lot. Indeed, it is not the most user-friendly platform but once you get used to it, is very powerful and trustworthy👌 You could also try Trading 212 which offers commission-free trading and now also allows transfer of shares in and out of the brokers which is great. I always buy market order to be honest, as I invest long-term I am not too bothered if it goes up or down 2-3%, I just buy every week and want to add stocks to my portfolio so it starts growing my dividend income🚀 Cheers

    Thank you for the informative video. Can you explain the order types?

    • @SmartMoneywithKai
      @SmartMoneywithKai  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi 👋
      Thanks for watching and glad you found the video informative. Let’s break down the main order types in simple terms:
      Market Order: This is the quickest way to buy or sell a stock. You tell your broker to buy or sell immediately at the current price.
      Limit Order: With this order, you set the price you want to buy or sell at. The trade will only happen if the stock reaches that price. For example, if you want to buy a stock for $50, but it’s currently $55, the trade will only go through if the price drops to $50 or less.
      Stop Order (Stop-Loss Order): This helps protect you from big losses. You set a price lower than the current price. If the stock drops to that price, it will automatically sell at the best available price.
      Stop-Limit Order: This combines a stop order and a limit order. You set a stop price and a limit price. If the stock hits the stop price, it turns into a limit order, meaning it will only sell at your limit price or better.
      Trailing Stop Order: This is a smart way to lock in profits. You set a trailing amount, either a percentage or a dollar amount, below the stock’s current price. If the stock price goes up, the trailing stop moves up with it. If the stock then drops by that trailing amount, it will sell automatically.
      I hope this makes it clearer.
      Cheers,
      Kai

    Great video thanks! I have a question.
    Why did you buy an ETF that is domiciled in Netherlands instead of an ETF that is domiciled in Ireland?
    Isn't it the case that if you buy an Ireland domiciled you pay less tax as a non-US citizen?
    Great video thank you!

    • @SmartMoneywithKai
      @SmartMoneywithKai  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks a lot 🙌 Just to clarify, I actually bought the VUSA UCITS ETF, which is still domiciled in Ireland for tax efficiency-it’s just listed on the Dutch stock exchange, and I chose to buy it in EUR. Ireland-domiciled ETFs are indeed often tax-efficient for non-US investors due to the reduced withholding tax on US dividends (15% vs. 30%).
      Buying in EUR on the Dutch exchange was simply a currency and exchange preference, while still benefiting from the Irish domicile’s tax structure. Thanks for pointing that out. Cheers

    • @yyeeye9
      @yyeeye9 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@SmartMoneywithKai Thank you for the great explenation! How do you tell that ETF is domiciled in Ireland? Is it written on IBKR? Thanks!

    • @SmartMoneywithKai
      @SmartMoneywithKai  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You're welcome 🙌 To identify if an ETF is domiciled in Ireland, look at the fund’s ISIN code. Irish ETFs generally have ISINs that start with "IE," while U.S.-domiciled ETFs start with "US." On Interactive Brokers, you can typically find this information in the ETF’s details, either in the fund description or under regulatory info. Alternatively, you can check the fund’s official fact sheet or provider’s website for the domicile. Cheers

    If you just have cash in your account doesnt Interactive brokers pay 4.33 yield on it?

    • @SmartMoneywithKai
      @SmartMoneywithKai  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Erik, that's correct, but pretty high requirements to get that. Here is what it says for EU investors:
      Accounts with a Net Asset Value (NAV) of USD 100,000 (or equivalent) or more are paid yield at the full rate for which they are eligible. Accounts with NAV of less than USD 100,000 (or equivalent) receive yield at rates proportional to the size of the account. There will be no interest paid up to USD 10,000 of cash.
      For example, an account with a NAV of USD 50,000 earns yield at a rate equal to one-half the rate paid by IBKR to accounts with a NAV of USD 100,000 or more.
      www.interactivebrokers.hu/en/pricing/cash-yield-enhancement-hu.php
      So not the most attractive, Lightyear is much better for yield on cash👍 Cheers

Otherwise you can create a margin account which should also work, though I don't like having margin. Otherwise, definitely reach out to the support to be sure. Good luck 🤞

    Thanks for the video. Quite helpful. One quick question, Do you recommend buying the Stocks in Dollars or Eur? I was under the impression that Eur might work better since there is no conversion fee involved (currently reside in Germany) but I think you mentioned that you convert Eur to Dollars in Revolut and then invest in Dollars. What is your thought on this?

    • @SmartMoneywithKai
      @SmartMoneywithKai  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks a lot and great question! When living in Germany, investing in Euros can save you the conversion fees, which is smart and cost-effective. However, converting Euros to Dollars via platforms like Revolut allows direct access to U.S. stocks, which could potentially offer better returns given the expansive and dynamic U.S. market. 🇺🇸💰
      The minor fee for currency conversion is often overshadowed by the broader range of investment opportunities in the U.S. market. Yet, the preference between investing in Euros or Dollars boils down to personal choice, risk tolerance, and your long-term financial goals.
      In essence, it's about weighing the immediate savings on conversion fees against the potential gains from a diversified portfolio in the U.S market. The choice is yours to make! 💡
      Cheers,
      Kai

I was a little disappointed when I found out that Revolut charges 0.01% of your total portfolio value every month, as well as 0.25% for every non-free trade. @SmartMoneywithKai  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Jurij, yes, indeed not the best, that's why I don't recommend Revolut for trading and have moved my portfolio to Interactive Brokers. They do have clear commissions on each stock trade which they show you clearly before you buy, though I recommend changing from Fixed to Tiered pricing, much cheaper for lower volume. Otherwise they don't have any inactivity fees or monthly portfolio fees and they have a much better spread price, difference between bid and ask price which is important meaning you get best prices on the instrument you buy. Lastly, the dividend withholding tax you've mentioned is not because of Revolut but US tax laws, which usually comes to 30%, however, IBKR can help you prepare a form W-8 BEN to help you lower that percentage from 30% to 15% if your country allows, which majority of EU countries do. Cheers

      Hi Lucy 👋 No, you cannot open multiple individual accounts under the same profile with Interactive Brokers (IBKR). Each individual account is tied to a single user profile. However, you can open a custodial account for your son under your name if he's a minor, or if he's of legal age, he would need to open his own account.
      If your goal is to manage both accounts, IBKR offers the Family Office structure, which allows you to link multiple accounts under one master account for easier management. Cheers

    I found that the swiss brokers are quite expensive and not really good to use in my opinion.

    • @SmartMoneywithKai
      @SmartMoneywithKai  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey Nils, great question.
      You're right, Swiss brokers can be pricey and not always user-friendly. With Interactive Brokers (IB), they do not directly handle Swiss tax assessment. However, you can generate tax reports and account statements through their platform that are usually sufficient for Swiss tax authorities.
      You'd likely need to file taxes with a local accountant who can use these reports to prepare your assessment. There's no extra cost from IB specifically for generating these documents-it’s all included in the standard account features.
      If you’re moving to Switzerland, IB can be a solid, cost-effective choice compared to local options. Cheers

      Hi there, good point, you could disable different marketplaces in the settings to only buy stocks in Europe for example, then you would only see those listed in EUR. But to be honest, after a while you get used to the marketplace names, so when you see the same stock listed in different places, you will see by the abbreviation that it's listed in Frankfrutt for example so it will be in EUR and you will also see that before buying of course. Hey Kai, excellent tutorial. Although, still, a lot to learn I've subscribed to your channel. I am considering starting a recurring long-term investment in one of the S&P500 index funds e.g., VANGUARD S&P500. As an example, let's say that I wish to invest 100 $ in VANGUARD S&P500 every month with the aim of getting compounding profits. Practically speaking, how will it work? So, basically, I should deposit 100$ to my IBKR account every month and just buy the VANGUARD S&P500 index fund (at the beginning of every month) and that is it? Will it get compounded on its own? What about dividends? Because I wish to also invest my dividends on top of my 100$ investment every month? Can you explain this briefly, please? Thanks a lot.

    • @SmartMoneywithKai
      @SmartMoneywithKai  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks a lot🙌 Yes, absolutely, you've got it! 👍 Investing $100 monthly in VANGUARD's S&P 500 is like planting a financial seed. Each month, add your $100 to your IBKR account and buy the index fund shares. Think of it as setting up a money-growing routine!
      Here's the cool part: compounding. It's like your money making its own money. As your investment grows, so do your returns. It's a snowball effect! 🌨️💸
      About dividends - they're your extra boost. If you reinvest them, which I highly recommend, they'll grow alongside your regular investment. It's like adding fuel to your financial growth engine! 🚀
      So, keep it simple: deposit, invest, and reinvest those dividends. Watch your investment grow over time. You're on a great path! 👏💰
      Good luck mate. Cheers

      @@SmartMoneywithKai I just realized that on IBKR I am (based in Italy) not allowed to buy VOO VANGUARD S&P500 ETF. It says this product requires a KID in English or in a language approved for your country. Do you know what is this issue? And how to overcome it?
      If not, what other S&P500 index funds could be worth looking into?

    • @SmartMoneywithKai
      @SmartMoneywithKai  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the dreaded KID regulation...
      The issue you're facing with VOO (Vanguard S&P 500 ETF) is related to European regulations. Let me break it down:
      1. Understanding the KID Requirement:
      KID Stands For: "Key Information Document." It's a European regulatory requirement designed to help investors understand the risks, rewards, and costs of investment products.
      Why VOO Might Not Be Available: Some US-based ETFs, like VOO, don't provide KIDs in European languages. Because of this, platforms like IBKR restrict their sale to European investors, including those in Italy.
      2. Overcoming the Issue:
      Finding Alternatives: Look for ETFs that comply with European regulations (UCITS compliant). These ETFs provide KIDs and are tailored for European investors.
      Check with IBKR: They might have a list of alternative ETFs that are available and compliant for investors in Italy.
      3. Alternative S&P 500 Index Funds:
      Vanguard S&P 500 UCITS ETF (VUSA): This is a popular alternative. It's designed to track the S&P 500 and is compliant with European regulations.
      iShares Core S&P 500 UCITS ETF (CSPX): Another great option that tracks the performance of the S&P 500.
      Remember, always do your own research before investing. Check the fund's performance, fees, and whether it aligns with your investment goals.
      Happy weekend. Cheers

      @SmartMoneywithKai  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there, it will show you when you click on preview, but for me it's now usually €1.25 per order which is very reasonable as you also get one of the lowest spreads across different brokers who say they are commission free but charge you more for the purchase price of your stock/ETF. Also, make sure to change to tiered instead of fixed pricing, it will be cheaper. Cheers

    • @SmartMoneywithKai
      @SmartMoneywithKai  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah, I think you are referring to the Expense ratio of an ETF, this should be as low as possible to maximise your returns. VUSA has a 0.07% annual expense ratio which is one of the lowest you can get in Europe. You won't see any of these charges, this is basically netted off on an annual basis by your broker to your total holdings, but since it's such a small amount you probably won't even notice it, we probably spend more on exchange conversion fees:) Hope this helps. Cheers

So, if I sell my Amazon stock on Interactive Brokers, can I immediately buy another stock?"@@SmartMoneywithKai

    • @SmartMoneywithKai
      @SmartMoneywithKai  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great question. On platforms like Interactive Brokers, when you sell a stock, the funds from that sale generally become available for reinvestment immediately. This is due to the concept of 'unsettled cash,' which still allows you to trade before the funds have fully settled. So, if you sell your Amazon stock, you should be able to buy another stock right away without waiting. Just be mindful of the regulations and the specific terms of your brokerage account to ensure smooth transactions. Cheers

      Hey there please I will advise to first read up on investing first cause clearly respectfully you do lack the basics. When you buy stocks you should buy for two main reason. One to hold and when the value goes up you can sell it thus making the difference, typically done by day traders or short term investors . For long term investors they buy a stock or shear of any company and they are basically owning a piece of the company which give them right to get part of any future profit earning the company makes… this is typically referred to as dividends this are giving by the company periodically meaning over a long time and with reinvesting you makes more money from your investments than having that money in the bank.
