    So helpful to see your thought process for arranging flowers on a cake. I have never arranged flowers on a cake but would like to incorporate this into my skill. Thanks for sharing Alexandria

    Thank you so much for this video. There aren't many tutorials on how to arrange sugar flowers. This is so helpful. Thank you.

    All of it! Only 3mins in and already see where I’m going wrong. I make the flowers then hope for the best and stress out trying to figure out where to put them. So, sketching it seems is where I’m going wrong, which is at the start. Oh my 😅😅😂😂. Thanks for sharing ❤️

    Figuring out the flow of the arrangement. I just can’t think about what flow “shape” is the best. Maybe a video on different flows, especially for tiered cakes.

    Everything, I remember myself putting up a wedding cake. The bride have instructed me to use the same flowers that the florist company use for the venue. When the lady in charge of the flowers gave me that little bit of flowers my mind went blank! Thank Lord my brother in law was with me and help me out!!!

    This was so helpful. I have trouble placing my filler flowers and trying not to break them and filling in the holes of my straws those are my trouble areas

      Takes some practice for sure. And you can always use a bit of royal icing/buttercream to fill in the holes if you'd like!

    Thank you for the very generous and awesome tutorial. I struggle with keeping petals from breaking after the flowers are made. Do you tips on how to make the gumpaste a little less brittle

    • @FinespunCakes
      @FinespunCakes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you have problems with this try keeping the petals a bit thicker instead of rolling too thin. If your gumpaste doesn’t have enough structure add a bit more CMC

    Alexandria, I have never made gumpaste flowers before, but I have a 50th birthday cake order due for the 19th and was hoping to do some. The cake will be a 6” tier on top of an 8” tier, iced with a buttercream. The customer would like me to use fall colors (the favorite color is purple) and have some flowers on the cake. They said the flowers could be real or silk or...... I did have the impression that they weren’t real into buttercream flowers. I didn’t really want to deal with real flowers and thought I’d look for artificial ones. Now I’ve been thinking of trying gumpaste flowers. Could you recommend some relatively simple flowers I could make, using fall colors, including purple. This is new for me and I really am not sure where to start. I’m not even sure how many flowers I would need for that size cake. I am planning on adding a thin, decorative fondant wrap partially around each tier. I’d appreciate any input and thoughts you might have. 😊

      Hi Joann, if you'd like to start with some easy ones for practice I'd recommend lilacs and stephanotis. Since you'll need something that covers space you could use carnations (which is one of the easier large flowers) and spray roses. Then fill any space you have with fillers like the stephanoits/lilacs. All of the flowers you can make in any colour you'd like which is a huge plus for gumpaste flowers vs. real! Depends really on the size of arrangement but I'd think 3 larger flowers (like carnations) 5 spray roses and 20 or so fillers would be sufficient to make 2 smaller arrangements.

      @@FinespunCakes I’m hoping to make the flowers you suggested, but I have no idea how much gumpaste is needed. Is there an average weight per flower? I have no idea how much of the different colors to mix.

    • @FinespunCakes
      @FinespunCakes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@joannjacquin4983 It's really just trial and error unfortunately! Start with 100g-150g of gumpaste and just add a little bit of colour on the end of a toothpick to start with and you can see how far that will take you. You can gradually add more.

    When placing them on a real cake, you mentioned black cocktail straws are these the same thing as sip straws. I saw those on amazon and was wondering

    How do you feel about using Safety Seal rather than a straw?

    • @FinespunCakes
      @FinespunCakes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think that’s fine too! I’m not too picky, the straws are the easiest to find so that’s why I used them in the vid ☺️

  • @loisdelaney2593
    @loisdelaney2593 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you use a lot of straws, is there any danger of the cake breaking?

    • @FinespunCakes
      @FinespunCakes  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I suppose if you use a ton of them it could be an issue? I've never run into this problem and I think it will help if the cake is well chilled too.

    This is the hardest part for me... ARRANGING 😬 I get that “paralyzed feeling” looking at my perfectly smooth cake. I am an artist and I understand composition, but this is where I struggle 🤦‍♀️

    I always damage my buttercream when I place the flowers. Even with a chilled cake 😩 Part of my solution is to finish the cake entirely before bringing it to the venue. Lesson learned
