fun fact: Mamamoo refused to perform the whole song live because it made them cry during the recording and they're afraid that they'll cry when they sing it live, especially Hwasa our sensitive queen. They all called their moms after recording Hello Mama.

I just started bawling my eyes out listening to hello mama, I've never heard it before today it's so beautiful and it makes me sad because right now I work at Kroger so I'm exposing myself everyday/putting myself at risk so my mom only lets me come by to get food she made for me and I can't stay at her house or even touch her or hug her and so it really made me cry because I really miss being able to do that...
This whole thing going on right now needs to end.

I cried listening to I'll Try today, DAY6 has the power to make people feel other ways you don't usually feel. I hope for the members of Day6 diagnosed with Anxiety to get better soon. Us MyDay's will wait as long as it takes for them to get better

Every time I listen to Hello Mama I feel like it's a voicemail message they're leaving to their mom. They were walking down the street at like two in the morning and missed their mom, so called her in the hopes she'd pick up but she didn't, so they're just talking to a disembodied idea of their mom without any response. The song feels very lonely.
I agree, i lost my mom around the time the album came out and when i played this song i couldnt help but cry my eyeballs out, it has this really heavy feeling of loneliness and loss for some reason. One of my dearest song of Mamamoo.
This comment reminded me of the final scene in Ladybird

Speaking of their timbres, that is the exact charm of MAMAMOO! Their voices are all so unique and each singer could function on their own as soloists, but putting them together was a genius decision.
Day6's I'll Try was released in December 2017, hence the Christmas vibe to it.
I didn't realise that dowoon sings in I'll try until now, but I just recognised his lower voice harmonising in the acapella section
In light of our news today, I cried for them. Remember, asking for help is a sign of strength. Thanks for this.

wow. i rly love that commentary about the buildup and how he related it to how mothers would talk about their own mothers and etc as well as the difference between i'll try (being more emotional) and hello mama (being more comforting)...... also the editing in this is rly great! as someone who doesnt rly understand musical terminology and technicalities, the added definitions and clips and examples are super appreciated

When people are reacting about the melody, instruments, transitions of any Day6 songs, I feel the most proud knowing that Day6, tho there're layers of editing during recording, you know that the core of their every song is their composition. And so the songs feel more personal to me because the songs are literally theirs, like their creations.
Day6' hamonization at the end of "I'll Try" still gives me goosebumps. These lads really know how to hit us all hard with their vocals, lyrics, and compositions.

When I first listen to "I'll try" without lyrics I was like "Oh this Christmas song is amazing!" and then I searched the song with lyrics and realized that it is a beautiful song for a mom. And, wow, Wonpil really did a great song. The acapella section kills me. I love harmonies too much.

How can day6 have such great vocals, instrumentation and on top of that write all of their masterpieces themselves?! They are too talented for his industry.
I think I'll try having that kind of significant piano parts is so sweet considering that Wonpil wrote it for his parents who are also piano teachers. So i think it's more meaningful if you see it in that context

Hello Mama is probably the most sentimental song I've ever heard in Kpop. Every time I listened to this song, I started to get a gut wrench in my stomach and I can almost feel my eyes welling up. They handled this tribute to mother with sensitivity and emotion to make you swell with feelings, and Moonbyul proved that she's capable of being a full time vocalist.
