  • SpaceX Starlink is now available with a 33% discount and faster speeds to boot! SpaceX has rolled out refurbished Starlink V4 Kits (the latest model not an old one) with a $200 discount in the United States, offering a cost-effective option for consumers interested in accessing high-speed, low-latency internet.
Will this lower price attract more customers who have been sitting on the fence due to the high startup cost of SpaceX Starlink?

Do you think starlink would get more people sign up if they spread the cost of the equipment and lock people into a contract so made it $120 a month but achieve your contract for equipment because people have a hard time coming up with that lump sum of cash

My version 4 router did have an issue (that Starlink noticed while I did not see an issue on my end) Their tech support emailed me and said they were sending a new router that came in 2 days. I replaced it since they sent a new router because the engineers saw an issue with the original router. Like I said, I never experienced an issue on my end but the engineers saw something I did not and they preemptively sent a new one. Now that's tech support like I have never experienced in my 58 years of life.

They are offering it for $1 in the Australian cities. I am remote and got mine for $199 last year. I had to silicone plastic birds spikes on my dish as the Aussie birds pulled the white coating off it. Starlink replaced the dish . These prices are Aussie dollars

I would have gone with refurbished had that been an option. Sometimes, but not always, a refurbished units have better components. However, when i signed up it was not an option. Plus, WiFi 6 is not an enticement for me as i use my dishy in bypass mode with my own network.
Starlink still out performs anything else I could get out here in the "sticks". My speeds have been more and more consistent lately. Zero complaints

I got a refurb actuated dish half price, dish works fine but came a little dirty. Had to wipe it down but otherwise fine. The unit sits outside in the weather so used it didnt bother me much.
Speeds i'd say much of a muchness. I suspect the newer dish would do better in motion with the wider FOV.

Hi from Northern New Zealand - the back of beyond😂 No sign of any refurb gear but there is a$1 starter deal. I’m getting 270Mbps from the satellite to my dishy. Then only 68 to my phone ,according to the Starlink app. On Speedtest, it’s 54 down , 22 up with latency of 24 idle. I’m paying the full whack…

I’ve watched a lot of Joes starlink videos and this is the first time I recall hearing anything about the v4 units having faster up/download speeds than all the prior versions. Where are the details on this? How much faster? What changed in the “modem” side of the router to get the faster speeds that isn’t possible to get via firmware update in the older models?

In Canada we had the kits for gen 2 "Discounted" for probably 5 months at 599 CAD and its been like that for a bit now just checked still 599 CAD but doesn't say that its discounted, still quite a bit of money, I remember last year around the same time they had gen 2 kits on for 199 CAD which is dirt cheap for a brand new kit that would have just come out.

I'm waiting on my order, ordered last week, just saw this, I'm in one of those rare blacked out areas where it's not yet available for residential in the USA, though I have neighbors who have residential, new users can't get in for now. I signed up for the roaming, it's so much better than what we have available to us in a very rural mountain area.
I checked to see if I could get a refurbished unit, as long as I'm signed in to my account, it showed that I could get one (it's the GEN 3 BTW, not GEN 4 for me), BUT when I try to add it to my cart, it doesn't do anything, so I can't order one... I tried signing out and ordering, but it wouldn't show the refurbished unit available for me, even in the roaming part, it's just not there. It's strange that I can see it IF I'm signed in but I can't actually order it. Oh well, I'm still eagerly awaiting my Starlink, I know it will be so much better than what I have now.... Thanks for what you do!

What stops me dead in my tracks is, as a retiree in this inflated economy, you still end up with $120/month internet bill. So I may never buy Starlink. If they knocked down their Monthly bill to even $99 say, I might bite the bullet. I'd rather pay less for monthly service than equipment.

They dont offer it in Michigan which sucks as I want to order this Friday. I played with the app 0.22% obstruction and have a 4x6 post buried out in the yard at that spot, 80 feet of conduit 18" down and 4-6' high(2-4'exposed) that now has a rope inside that conduit done last weekend. I need the 150' cable and a sturdy pivot mount for the pole. Per your videos I went with this setup as any adjustment will simply be me walking out and moving the thing easily before locking it down. I am looking at $855 in equipment/1st month in the starlink store so $200 off would sure have been nice.

I do agree this seems like a sign that they're trying to move away from the older models and systems trying to simplify it now that they have a fair amount of satellites in the sky. However I would like to see stats from zones in each state using this newer model. I am a bit skeptical about performance being improved.
According to the Starlink app on the speed test function built into the cell phone app I've had pretty mid to low performance abilities lately. I use to see the internet to the router performance go over 200 to 300 but as of lately I've seen those numbers sink down to maybe 210 as little as 40 most of the time it's on the lower end 100s and under so I'm not exactly sure what to make of that.
    It does raise some questions.

I have fiber that cost almost $80 a month. And I am sick of the crap service.i just stops working at least twice a day, between 2pm and 10pm. And it take an hour to reboot. Starling in my opinion is not any better, yet. As of last month, anyway. He has put up another 100 satellite. Still the price is way too high for us that only make 30-50K a year. So he better do something before Amazon does, sometime next year, 2025 ish. If he ever builds a rocket that is. So far it is just fuel tanks, and red flags that say NOT FOR FLIGHT!

@@kevinmarr7094 Thanks. My point was that there is a lot of talk about top speeds on this channel, and for most users anything over 100Mb/s, is way overkill. In fact most internet users do just fine at a lot under 100Mb/s. Higher speeds help if you have a lot of users on your connection, but speed is often over hyped. My guess is you do pretty good at around 30Mb/s low end. A bit low for 4k video streaming but probably fine for lower definition feeds.
Latency is also overhyped for 95% of users. Most people don't need anything approaching real time. If you are a gamer, low latency is desirable. Interactive live video applications also benefit from lower latency, but it has to get pretty high before it is really noticeable. 31ms may not be ideal for online gaming but is more than adequate for most uses. But ground based connections are usually lower latency.

Yes, it has been going in all over thanks to the government incentive to the companies. Took a while to get going because they need to engineer the installation, obtain local permissions' and/or permits.
Once that backbone ges installed, they can pretty easily put in 5G nodes to get to some of the tougher areas.
My guess is that is why Starlink is offering this discount. Get you committed now and then when the fiber moves in not too far from now, you'll have made that $420 investment and want to get your money's worth out of it. It would even make sense to put refurbished stickers on new units!
You'd be crazy to ge Starlink if you have a fiber or 5G wireless option. That service is expanding pretty quickly, There will still be unserved areas, but given another year, there will be less and less of those.

@@jplacido9999 And somehow Starlink is immune to that??? Seriously, fiber is far more reliable!!
Who in their right mind would spend that much for a backup?? If you have a cellphone you probably have a built in hot spot, And likely 4G broadband is immediately available. If you had fiber, most likely, 5G wireless is available.
Starlink must deal with space weather like geomagnetic storms, solar flares and CMEs. We are just now entering the 11 year cycle of high solar activity. It may be interesting to see how Starlink is effected.

Well I guess your a good proponant of Starlink. My problem with your video is this. Many and I mean many including me are in their later years and have difficulty climbing up on a roof to install this version 4 redue. Or they have to pay some one to install the unit. Again older folks are on a fixed income. Bad enough we now pay 120.00 a month for less speed and the original cost of the Gen 2 . So this might be a hot deal for some, but believe me those of us that have the Gen 2 are happy it moves around on it's own to find the bird in the sky, because climbing up a latter to adjust a dishy is not easy for us. Just saying. Oh an by the way. Starlink keeps updating my router about once a week. Speeds getting slower and slower. Oh that's right they need it for all the new customers. ...
