Dude 🤔 we didn’t grow up with this Bougie stuff like LOVE, family meetings where kids have input, and kind let downs while letting them know that their input and suggestions are actually heard and valued! 🙄🤦🏾‍♀️😢🤷🏾‍♀️
EVERYTHING WAS A RULE, but you didn’t know it until you violated it and got checked (usually verbally in front of everyone OR physically with a pop to the head, mouth or bottom) 😤

I haven’t felt so connected to an internet family like this since I used to watch the shaytards when I was like 12. But with you guys it’s different, with the shaytards I was filling a void in my life because of family problems. Now I’m entering my 20’s and learning things about parenting and just life in general for my future, you guys are more real, less focused on being super funny and entertaining, just really authentic which is something that I think the shaytards lacked and why I ultimately lost interest. You guys are truly something special! I’m so excited for the new baby, no matter if it’s a boy or a girl I’m genuinely so excited for a new member of the family! Bless your family 💕

    1) no shoes in the house. we didn’t do the house shoes thing
    2) sunday’s = family days!! eat breakfast as a family, do chores together and then relax afterwards to prepare for the week ahead
    3) no eating in the room - dishes n silverware lead to unwanted bugs/pests

I was halfway through talking about the rule that I have the hardest time getting the kids to follow before I realized that when I started typing I was answering your question, and at that point I was in the middle of my ten page essay discussing my children's seeming inability to follow it. Nobody needs that (except maybe the part of me that lives in whatever dimension of frustration it was that had unleashed several minutes of frenzied typing), so I deleted it. But I am here to say that the struggle is real, my friends. The struggle is real. Godspeed.

In our house it is pretty simple 1. If you mess it up, you clean it up. 2. No eating anywhere in the house, but the kitchen or the dining room. 3. If you see something that needs to be done, do it (a full trash can, etc.). 4. No shoes past the mud area. Good luck with the rules, and again so happy for you guys.

    -No food in the bedroom
    -Everyone eats dinner together.
    -No shoes in the house.
    -No slamming doors
    -Knock on closed doors
    -Show respect to others.
-Ask permission to touch other ppls. property.
    -Clean up after yourself
-Respect your space by keeping it clean and tidy.
-In keeping the house clean we were allowed to decide on a cleaning schedule amongst ourselves.

I loved this! My kids are basically grown now (21 and 19), but we had family meetings too and this brought back memories. Kids can get you off task so quickly! Our daughter was the great distractor LOL. Our biggest rule was we never fussed in the morning. We never yelled before they left for school because the world is hard enough to navigate and your last thoughts and feelings should be good ones while you were out there. Seems lofty now, but it worked. Because we knew there was a no morning fussing rule clothes were picked out the night before, bedtimes were carried out because sleepy children, who are moving slowly make adults cranky. Things were signed at night and lunches were made the night before. It helped keep the kids in good spirits and us too. Few people believed we pulled it off, but most of the time we succeeded.

This was adorable. In our house:
    1. No phone calls during dinner (the phone was on the wall and my Dad would answer- Embarrasin! Lol). Family discussion/meeting happened at the dinner table.
    2. No TV until after homework was done.
    3. Clean up your toys after playing with them or they will disappear (this includes when friends come over)
    4. Every Saturday clean your room and remove the sheets from your bed for washing.
There were more but those were the early rules.
May I suggest you come up with the best three rules that will help the Chocolate Babies help/contribute to the household. Add more as they mature, and give privileges to the older ones as they get it right. They are largely behavioral now so explanations don't have the impact you are probably expecting. This is where "because I said so" came from all those years ago. When they ask why, then they are ready for the explanation.

Naya stays winning with her cuteness. Uriah- is real negotiator and the Theo is totally keen. Rules are important and protect the kids and human beings from all sorts of bad. Happy Fathers' day and enjoy your new home. :-)

Good watch, growing up we had a rotating schedule for washing the dishes, keeping the common areas clean, vacuuming, and taking out the trash. 4 girls all 3 years apart.

@12:59 Oldest son accurately corrects father. And fathers reaction, his "Kevin Hart" moment, was just priceless. You could even hear Moma chuckle in background. Lmao
Its alright dad. I've been told i can be long too. We are just trying to be crystal clear. "Is everyone on board?"...so-to-speak...leaving little room for unauthentic excuses.
Though, I appreciate the reminder that i too can have refinable patterns and thus opportunity.
    Continued guidance & protection!

    I'm enjoying seeing Anaya's personality blossom!!!💕💕💕
Rules from my home (that come to mind) growing up:
    1. Put a handle to adults' names when addressing them, or responding to a call (you definitely didn't say "what" when responding to a call)
    2. Say good morning before saying anything else./Speak when you enter a home, or see people.
    3. Make your bed immediately after rising (otherwise, you'll get back in it and won't get your day started).

One of the house rules I grew up with was to finish the food on your plate...the bad part was that my dad piled on a ton of food on the plate...an adult portion...uggh!

"This is a marital discussion that we need to discuss..." This is awesome. I am always in awe of couples who are married with children and keep the children aware that you all are on each other's team first.
"... but I understand that you want a golden star. I'm listening to you. You a heard." Wow! I love how clearly and intentionally you communicated that you value Uriah's input. That kind of affirmation, especially from a dad helps kids want to keep participating in family life. It's not always going to go Uriah's way, but he's going to see that his Dad consistently takes time to understand and value his thoughts. That was beautiful.
I'm praying for your family and your on-going rule discussion. May God bless your marriage, your parenting, and continue to be center of it all-- making the way you merge the two holy and seamless.

Pause...that's good Papa and Mama, to think about the ideas Uriah has. Mama good expressing your thoughts, Papa good saying we will discuss later and get back to the kids with an answer. That was a good moment of acknowledging and validating. I'll give that a gold star...that doesn't always happen. Okay back to the clip.
