It's so refreshing to see an application that isn't absolute perfection as far as stats go. Anywhere else like here, Reddit, etc, you see all the 4.0 overall GPA, 518 MCAT, and stellar extracurriculars w/ years of research, and though that's great for them, it sometimes makes med school seem unattainable. Its good to be reminded that it's not about being perfect on paper but conveying who you are through your app. Side note: 13:00 is me on my last two brain cells attempting and failing to study.
Exactly! No one is perfect and no one has a perfect application. Sometimes we try to make ourselves seem that way but it’s only to the detriment of viewers. The application is just an opportunity to tell your story and illustrate how that story suggests that you will be a great doctor! And someone with a 3.4 gpa and 510 mcat can be a much better doctor than someone with a 4.0 and 520. Medical schools know this but a lot of applicants don’t, or they think that medical schools don’t. And that’s how I look all the time during the last hour or so of studying 😅😂
Evolving Medic could you do a video on revealing your personal statement? I know that it’s... well... personal, but if you could that would be awesome. If you don’t I fully understands
This is some of the best content in guiding many premeds. You have made me a believer that my stats don't define me, they don't display the whole picture for each individual and yes, everyone has their stories, many have had to conquer paths to get to their numbers and if you can do that and show tenacity, those numbers don't mean anything to what kind of doctor you will become. I have let my numbers hold me back for years seriously and its now that I see and believe what others have been telling me. I have to see myself outside the numbers and most importantly realize that there was a story behind those numbers and I think this way, I can learn a lot from those experiences. Thank you, you've made a difference in someone's life today and I send you Love from Jesus and thank you for what you do.
Thank you so much for sharing this! Knowing that I made an impact on your life makes me feel like these videos are purposeful. You absolutely are MUCH MORE than the numbers. They are just part of the picture and once you zoom out you can appreciate your story in its entirety.
I’m so happy to hear that! When I was applying I was so stressed about the stuff I couldn’t control (old grades, etc.) instead of working on just putting together the best application I could and expressing my story in the best way. I’m glad this video helped! 🙏🏽
I’ve been watching your videos a lot recently (really enjoy them!) I will be taking the MCAT in April and apply this cycle. Thank you for all your tips!
Amazing content and you are so articulate! Ive felt like my life is so boring and not great enough to get in med school but you’ve definitely helped me think of some ideas that can fit into my experiences and personal statement
Thank you so much Kyra!! And i am sure your life and experiences are more interesting than you think. Sometimes things don’t seem as cool or interesting when we look at them from the perspective of the person experiencing them. But I can assure you, when you tell your story to someone else they will have a very different appreciation of it! I am sure you are going to do great with your application but please always feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
Hearing your story made me realize that in the past I have excluded a very important part of my story into personal essays I've written. In short, I suffered back and neck injuries from multiple (more than 5 :( ) car accidents that began from the end of freshman year to my junior year. My grades were great at the beginning and continued to get better but stayed pretty consistent as time passed and, I'm not saying this is the reason, but my recovery was very difficult and I didn't realzie how much pain and discomfort I was in taking college exams. I was in pain everyday and insurance only covered treatment up to a certain point and it became hard to pay out of pocket for treatments. I'm not as in as much pain as then but I've been doing yoga and more stretches to help and I realzied that my injuries play a part in my performance in school but it also displays a level of resilence as I completed my coursework. Thank you for sharing your story and I'm excited for future videos! Edit: I'm a good driver lol. The major accidents were not caused by me but I may have bumped into a parked car at one point lol
Thank you so much for sharing a piece of your story! You most definitely are resilient! I’m glad you are doing better!! And you’re not the only one whose bumped into a parked before 😅
You fully sanitized this video and everything lol. You had the swivel chair and various angles too lol. Also the tips you give are good for med students, grad students, law students, Pharm, PT, PA, etc. Thanks for sharing more of your story bro. 🤝🏿🤙🏿keep going. And the bloopers 🤣
Evolving Medic would you be able to do a video of how you studied for your pre-med prerequisites? Or how to stay positive/motivated when life doesn’t go perfectly?
CARS is one of those sections where the more you do, the better you become at it. You start realizing what they are looking for in passages and read with the intention to find those things instead of reading blindly (I.e. looking at the questions and then going back to find answers). I recommend doing as many practice passages as possible and start to think about what the test writers are trying to get you to think about before you even start reading the prompt.
Jacob Martin That’s a great MCAT. If you don’t get in this time around you should definitely apply for some post back with linkage. With that MCAT score they’ll definitely see your potential.
In my country, no one cares about your life story, background, only grades / exams matters. Everyone has difficulties and you cannot objectively measure how much anyone "suffer" or "tried his/her best". Also no one cares about your gender ( in fact 70-80% medical students are female) or ethnicity / skin color. We do not have extracurriculars - mostly they are unrelated to medicine or the quality of these "Researches" are debatable. Research paper must be at least published in peer reviewed journals. I am really jealous of your facilities / teaching system / and practical skills that you obtain during your studies. Keep working, do not lose your motivation. P.S.I am 6 year medical student in LT (Europe)

Thank you so much!! 🙏🏽

Hu Wa I will be going over my extracurriculars and personal statement in the next few videos 👍🏽😊

Was a student athlete at unc with similar stats and this is the most inspiring thing ive seen in months

Once again I appreciate you bro! From a fellow student athlete, balancing school and practice + travel is tough! Congrats
It is tough! Studying on plane/bus rides instead of the library is not easy! Lol. But it forces us to learn time management and diligence 💪🏽
I’ve been watching your videos a lot recently (really enjoy them!) I will be taking the MCAT in April and apply this cycle. Thank you for all your tips!

Evolving Medic would you be able to do a video of how you studied for your pre-med prerequisites? Or how to stay positive/motivated when life doesn’t go perfectly?
You’re the man! I love your content bro. This advice is major key 🔐. Blessings bro
Thank you so much bro! I’m happy you are enjoying and benefitting from my videos! 🙏🏽
Can you also go over your personal statement
Omg thank you for this video 🙏🏾👌🏾 and can you also make a video about the secondary questions that students typically have to answer
Absolutely! I will be going over how to fill out the experiences section on the primary app, the personal statement and secondary essay questions! 👍🏽😊
Great videos. Personal statement video coming soon?
Thank you so much! And absolutely! 🙌🏽
Do you have any tips for struggling with CARS I see you score improved from your first to second MCAT

Really good content. Are you gonna make a vid on the school you choose/your thoughts during the decision-making process?
Thank you! And I definitely will be making a video revealing the school I chose and my reasoning
Great video, I wanted to see if I could work with you to help me work on my story? Is there a way to contact you?
Thank you! Please feel free to reach out via Instagram DM @evolvingmedic or via email at evolvingmedic@gmail.com with any questions you have!
Gpa = 3.00
MCAT = 516
Hopefully that’s enough for me lol 😂
Lol knowing how much more schools weigh the MCAT over GPA I’d say you’re in good shape! You crushed the MCAT!! 🙌🏽
Did you get in?
Jacob Martin That’s a great MCAT. If you don’t get in this time around you should definitely apply for some post back with linkage. With that MCAT score they’ll definitely see your potential.
