Shocking: Mumbai Man Finds Severed Finger in Ice Cream | ISH News

A 27-year-old doctor from Mumbai experienced a shocking ordeal that turned his love for ice cream into a nightmare. Dr. Brendan Ferrao, residing in Orlem, Malad, ordered three ice cream cones via the Zepto delivery app on the afternoon of 12th June 2024. Among the ordered items was a butterscotch and nuts ice cream cone from the Yummo brand, which Dr. Ferrao chose as his post-lunch dessert.
As Dr. Ferrao was enjoying his treat, he encountered an unexpected and horrifying discovery. Midway through the ice cream cone, he felt something unusually cold and large in his mouth. Initially dismissing it as a big piece of chocolate or nut, he soon realised it was neither melting nor chewable. To his horror, upon spitting it out, he found it was a half-inch long piece of flesh with a nail attached. Being a medical professional, Dr. Ferrao quickly identified the object as a severed human finger.
In a state of shock and disbelief, Dr. Ferrao, accompanied by his family, promptly visited the Malad Police Station to file a First Information Report (FIR) against Walko Food Co Ltd, the manufacturer of the Yummo brand ice cream. The police examined the ice cream, its packaging, and the order details from Zepto, and subsequently sent the finger for forensic analysis to confirm its human origin.
In response to media requests, Dr. Ferrao shared his harrowing experience through a video that quickly went viral on social media. In the video, he expressed his numbness and profound shock, revealing how deeply disturbed he was by the incident. He also highlighted his concerns about potential contamination, noting that the ice cream had been packed a month prior, which he deemed a severe lapse in health, safety, and medical standards. As a precaution, Dr. Ferrao will undergo a comprehensive blood check-up due to the high risk of contamination from the severed finger.
Following the widespread attention garnered by Dr. Ferrao's video, Walko Food Co Ltd issued an official statement on 13th June 2024. The company announced the immediate suspension of all production activities at the third-party manufacturing facility responsible for the contaminated product. They assured the public that the affected batch had been isolated at both the third-party facility and their own warehouses. Additionally, efforts are underway to halt and isolate the implicated products in the market.
Walko Food Co Ltd pledged full cooperation with the authorities in their investigation. Meanwhile, the police have launched a detailed inquiry into the matter, aiming to uncover the circumstances that led to this appalling incident.
The unsettling event has left Dr. Ferrao deeply traumatized, and he described feeling as if he is suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) whenever he thinks about the ice cream. The incident raises significant concerns regarding food safety standards and the diligence of manufacturing processes.
As the investigation continues, consumers are left questioning the reliability of their food sources, with hopes that stringent measures will be enforced to prevent such horrifying incidents in the future.
