The majority of the worlds computers could be infected and we would never know it and we might never find out who did it until one day we wake up and everyone's files are deleted something even worse. Ty for explaining this Got hit by something new called Catch! (Thats what it called itself) It introduced itself similar to Fireball using a software bundler, embedding itself in a zip file with an .exe I had downloaded (TES5edit.exe). Once I ran the .exe, within minutes I was being locked out of random folders via permission, finding random files all over the place with names of just random letters. So within a minute or two, I went ahead and seized full ownership of the C drive, effectively stopping the virus from spreading although I damaged my own computer in the process with many folders I couldnt get access back to. Tried running all sorts of antivirus software and they'd either not work or identify themselves as the virus, removing key .dll files for the progam. Installed Avast for example and it kept closing out of avast, eventually breaking it. Windows virus scanner was able to find and resolve the SoftwareBundler, however damage was done and thats all it could do. I personally was able to find hundreds of virus files via manually going through the folders but couldnt remove or move them in anyway. Some would play syke with me appearing to have been removed or moved until I go back to the folder and the changes were reverted. So what I think happened was that a trojan browser hijacker delivered a virus that was designed to create a rootkit on that computer as a form of ransomware. The reason I believe they chose the name "Catch!" was because it didnt act on encryption as fast as WannaCry, rather the malware took its time encrypting random files here and there after locking their folders. Almost as if it was giving me time to stop it, or rather _catch it._
Here's the thing... You tell people to keep their OS up-to-date, which is fine and a good practice to have... but when numerous other tech sites tell you to let Windows handle the updates and stick to the 'B' updates AKA Patch Tuesday updates and Windows Defender definitions, otherwise you are becoming a 'guinea pig' for the 'C' and 'D' updates, which could have bugs... It's confusing to know who to listen to.
I mean, this doesn't apply to me personally; I use Linux. But for someone who just uses their system for basic things, like emails or social media, and isn't that tech-savvy, 'keeping the system as up-to-date as possible' could actually damage it.
@@BeckyAnn6879 True and not true. I have my windows pc set to check for updates but let me decide when to download and install updates. Every patch tuesday I download the security only package, windows update only offers the package that gives the bad optional updates your talking about. If you go to the microsoft website you can find the security only package that gives just that "security only" patches nothing else. Antivirus usually updates automaticly in the background as it should. It's driver updates for things such as your graphic cards and wifi that can break things and for those it's usually best not to update if your not having issues. unless your a gamer then thats different. It's also usually a good idea to update some programs also such as turbotax or flash player or adobe reader because they usually have security fixes.
ThioJoe, a virus cannot spread using bittorrent. Once a torrent file is created, it cannot be changed by anyone else who has the files. If a file is changed, it's hash number will change. If a files hash is changed, it will fail the hash check and will not upload.

Depends. I think if you avoid torrenting, have the highest UAC setting, standard user account, frequently backup files, use Chrome or Firefox, have auto-updates enabled, use a 3rd party DNS (Google or Open), it should be.
2:22 is that seriously a thing? A virus spreading via BitTorrent "upload folder"? I do not believe you. There is no such feature in BitTorrent. And even if there was, if the file uploads, no client downloading it will accept the piece, as it won't verify (hash fail) - instant discard and ban after 3 tries. Unless you mean the already virus infected torrents but that's no longer "spread itself" behavior. Just crack. Re: 02:20 or maybe it puts itself in the upload 02:24 folder for BitTorrent so then it also 02:26 uploads itself to the file-sharing service

Is Windows Defender enough?
Depends. I think if you avoid torrenting, have the highest UAC setting, standard user account, frequently backup files, use Chrome or Firefox, have auto-updates enabled, use a 3rd party DNS (Google or Open), it should be.
Thanks heaps , you do great and informative videos
2:22 is that seriously a thing? A virus spreading via BitTorrent "upload folder"? I do not believe you. There is no such feature in BitTorrent.
And even if there was, if the file uploads, no client downloading it will accept the piece, as it won't verify (hash fail) - instant discard and ban after 3 tries.
Unless you mean the already virus infected torrents but that's no longer "spread itself" behavior. Just crack.
Re:
02:20
or maybe it puts itself in the upload
02:24
folder for BitTorrent so then it also
02:26
uploads itself to the file-sharing service
