Mamma Mia, how authoritarian he is! 😎
His eyes are closed.
The absolute affectioN and love Karajan (the actual director of this movie) shot Oswald Voegler and his magic timpani are the greatest trademark of this unique performance, which is definitely the ultimatE word on this symphony. Simply superb. Always a thrilling emotion to watch it, as I watched it 33 years for the first time and bought it dearly, first on VHS, then Laserdisc then DVD.
You are technically going with the times. How was laserdisc resolution and colour? Still got the apparatus?
I watched the entire performance last night. On my SONY Bravia HDTV it looked and sounded spectacular!
The picture quality was sensational - you can see dust motes in the air from time to time (!). Although the image was probably converted to 16:9 widescreen from a 4:3 original, I never felt the image had been chopped to fit a modern screen.
Thank you, Digital Concert Hall, for making special arrangements to "borrow" these concerts from Unitel! Because you have all four Brahms Symphonies in your archive - as well as a Dvorak No.9 - this is a special treat I'm enjoying.
My only complaint: no Sarah Willis, Emmanuel Pahud, Albrecht Mayer, Rachel Helleur, Maja Avramović, Daishin Kashimoto, u.a. - this takes a while to adjust to!
OH,MY FAVORITE ARTISTS...Beautiful
1:36 & 1:55 = check out that bassoon left thumb action.
In the world of classical music there is God, the composers and then Karajan.
The cinematography in these Karajan videos is so much fun! It would be fun to see a modern Berlin video in this style. It's so easy to picture Rattle pulling that off beautifully.
I agree 100% !! The documentaries about Karajan talk about how he was such a stickler for the film direction. I believe one documentary said he would go back into the hall just to get a certain take, the orchestra wouldn't even play a note!

I recall one of the musicians saying this "orchestral lip-syching" might take place years after the first filming of the performance, that in some cases some of the players had passed away! It's amazing seeing how "cinematic" these 35 mm performances look. During the same time, Bernstein - who hated the cheap look of video tape - was filming his Mahler cycle with the Vienna Philharmonic.
In both cases, the conductors look like movie stars. You can't get that look with 1970s era video tape.
Замечательно !
De gran Belleza, todo en Grande. La
ma quanto è figa la pettinatura di Herbert?
Troppo. Sicuramente la Marvel si è ispirata a lui per il personaggio di Wolverine ahahha
That hair in the back!
What about it?
TheStockwell What do you mean what about it? It's standing up on end. It means he's feeling the music in more ways then one.

Thank you for explaining - I wasn't sure what you were trying to say. I was simply wondering where the rest of your comment was. When you point out something and leave it at that, it's hard to figure out if it's a positive comment. I'm not dense - I'm just cautious. Have a great week! :)
@@mead1955 I'm pretty sure he just styled it that way. Glorious
When a symphony takes around 50 minutes ,Karajan is in the picture for about 45 minutes....🤔
Yeah, but when you are as photogenic as he is, it's ok!
he deserved it
The timpani is a bit louder than usual.
Brabo
Where is women ?😢
So peinlich, diese Karajan-Shows mit ihm als Regisseur
