Obamacare was so poorly developed. When it first rolled out, you were legally REQUIRED to have healthcare. I was 20 and going through a rough patch and couldn’t afford the cheapest plan, which was quoted at $475 a month for me. I didn’t have healthcare for 5 months that year, and when it came time to file taxes, I was penalized $3,000 from Obama government for “not maintaining healthcare”. So, I’m essence, I was too broke to afford healthcare and was fined thousands of dollars for being too broke. Absolutely broken system
This happened for my first tax return for my first job.... I hated obama after that shit and when people try to tell me that obama care was good I tell them they are dumb as shit. Some parts of it was okay, but most of it was outright some communist BS with the illusion of "helping people".
The system worked great until it was abused at the top. Think of it this way. if you are pouring champagne into the top glass of a champagne glass pyramid and the first cup gets full which is the rich persons cup and then it was suppose to trickle down into the next cup and then the next cup and so on. The rich made their cup bigger which is at the top of the pyramid making everyone beneath them poorer and poorer as the years go by its why you couldnt pay for healthcare its why most of the country cant afford food, its why 1% holds all the worlds wealth. Sadly the only way to fix it is a restart.

In my city in Kentucky I make $28.03/hr and can afford my 2bed 2 bath 1000sqf apt, 2 cars and all of our other expenses with my wife being a stay at home wife with our 2 pups. It’s so crazy to me to see some places charge $1800+ for rent. It’s insane and I feel for those who can’t leave and are stuck there.

If you do a job where you have basic knowledge of some skills, you'd have to throw a hail Mary to move away and try to find a job. Definitely harder to get any kind of assistance for programs to get the degrees/certs.

Trump is 100% on minimum wage. The minimum wage in my state is still the federal minimum, but the fast food and retail jobs here all pay $14-$18/hr. As it turns out the minimum value of 1 hour's worth of low skill labor is determined by the market not the government. It would be better for states to set their own minimums for the reasons Trump mentioned as well.

There is usually another option to naturalize in most countries but you're right. Some countries don't have that option either but many of them are struggling because people don't tend to get visas to visit countries they can never become a citizen of. Even if it takes a long time and is difficult. Immigration is basically helping the low birth rates in a lot of developed countries.

Actually the 14th amendment requires the child born to be subject to the jurisdiction of America to become an American citizen. The child is only subject to jurisdiction of America if one of the parents is American.

The best replacement is to actually create a new 501c designation for non-profit health insurance. This still decentralizes healthcare from a single slurce by providing compitition within the market but removed the profit incentive from the equation. Also by designating it its own 501c status any premiuk collected from the insured can be viewed as a donation and thus be re-written into the tax code the be a healthy citizen tax credit at the end of the year thus giving almost all of the paid premium back to the insured.

As Thomas Sowell correctly said, the problem with raising the minimum wage is that no matter how high you raise it the real minimum wage is always Zero. Also, I've always loved the argument that you can't send kids who grew up in the US home with their parents because they won't even be able to speak the language. 1) This is mostly false since the parents raise them to speak their native language first (so that they can converse with them) and 2) That didn't seem to be a problem for their parents when they came to the US.

I’m half hispanic half white, my ex wife was from Egypt, and two girlfriends were born in Iran. My family and all of theirs had to be patient and wait their turn. Some of them had their family’s split just to make enough money to bring the others over. My ex wife was Christian and fled being killed by the Muslims, my girlfriend was a Bahai which are persecuted and killed by Muslims in Iran and she had to be a refugee in turkey for years. This recent stuff is ridiculous, they are not fleeing death and think they have the right to everything. The people that came legally love this country because it saved them. When you give hand outs you get spoiled individuals.

You explaining who is hurt by our current healthcare system has me internally screaming yes. I've been trying to explain this to my more far-left family and friends, and they don't want to hear it. For years, I was that person you described. I made too much money for assistance and not enough to afford health insurance. I was fined every year for not having it until Trump's administration got rid of the fine. It was cheaper for me to pay the fine those first few years, but since they increased it each year if you had to pay it, eventually, I don't know what I would have done. All the while I had to pay for my healthcare costs out of pocket including prescriptions. (The cost OOP for my prescription per month was cheaper than paying for health insurance AND my prescription.) But some of my friends and family didn't believe me and didn't want to hear it. One family member told me I was selfish and some other horrible things simply because I wanted something different from the ACA.
@@T57Custodian I worked for the state approving assistance. The rules are posted for all to see, and plenty learn how to get around it. Take the maximum amount you can make for instance. most will cut their hours down, so they are right in the threshold to qualify for the month, then after you qualify, you can go back to normal hours. as long as you report those as your hours and they match with the paycheck you provide, there is not a need to verify, at least in my state. Others will say they are homeless when they are truly not in order to qualify for "hot meals" at a fast-food place. So many ways to get around the system, it took a toll on me seeing so many people lie and cheat the system while they spend their money on luxury items.

As another Canadian, the Single Payer model we have is not working well. At least in the last 10 years or so. Are there other countries that do it better? Absolutely! I've heard the Nordic model works pretty well, where it's a combination of private/public. Essentially, the government gives you a 'voucher' for the procedure you need done, and you get to pick the private hospital/provider to do it. Still gives that incentive for private entities to do well to increase business, without overcharging you for a bandaid.
As someone who grew up in NB and moved to the US, it is very dependent on where you are located in Canada as to how your hospitals are. Don’t forget over half the country lives in a small area, those guys are better off because the government doesn’t care about the rural Canadians.
It's quite literally impossible to have Universal healthcare. Mathematically it is impossible for any social program to exist perpetually. Every single rich country has a declining population, every single social program mathematically needs a growing population, or it fails. Raising minimum wage is a way to cover the fact that things are outrageously expensive. If you increase the minimum wage then the prices will go up. It’s a never ending cycle
And if you don't increase it, the prices/cost of living still rapidly goes up regardless, almost as if that's just an excuse to not raise it in order for companies to continue to maximize profits at the cost of their employees and customers alike.
Prices are going up no matter what you doofus. California raised its minimum wage for fast food workers and the price increase was negligible. States with low minimum wage are seeing things become as expense as states with higher minimum wage.

Birthright citizenship was meant as a way to keep southern states from denying freed slaves citizenship. It was never meant to mean "If you come here pregnant, and the baby is born here, they're a citizen and you're not." That's literally what the "subject to the jurisdiction thereof" line is supposed to mean. But somewhere along the way it got co-opted to mean "Yeah, any baby born here by illegal immigrants is a citizen for no justifiable reason."

Although they still introduced laws to limit it. Secondly it's on the law, language has just changed over time that people weaseled the interpretation to no longer exclude immigrants.

I don't understand why so many people don't get it. My brother was born in Naples, Italy to American parents. He is not automatically an Italian citizen by simple virtue of being born there. That's it. The majority of the world is this way and are right to do so.
The problem is that for decades it was a policy that being born in USA makes you become USA citizen. Even if they change this policy from today, you can't apply it retroactively. Also, a parent's county is not in any obligation to give a child that was born in the USA and got USA citizenship, a citizenship of their parent's country, or even allow them in that country as "immigrants" from USA. USA could exhort diplomatic pressures regarding this on some countries, but you will for sure have countries that would not comply.
My husband was born in Germany and he is not a German citizen because his parents are US citizens. No one is up in arms with other countries immigration policies.

The parents have the legal right to have a child reside with them, only obligation being to register the child's residence through the proper channels. When the children turn 18 (or whatever the legal age might be), they can request citizenship on their own.

Unlike ethnonationalist nations (most of them), who see citizenship as a product of ethnic background and culture, ideonationalism instead is nationalism as a product of shared belief or identity. In the US, this shared belief is the fundamental principles both defined and implied by the constitution, specifically the bill of rights. One of those concepts is the idea of all men being created equal. I’m sure you can see how that idea can morph into at least a justification for looser immigration laws as well as policies that allow for anchor babies and the like.

As a Canadian, I know for fact our healthcare system is quickly degrading. It's filled with middle management bloat skyrocketing prices, which has inturn decreased services and stagnated wages. Nurses and Doctors get trained here, then leave to the USA to earn good money. Now days our ER's are slow and under staffed, wait times to see a doctor are getting longer and longer. There's a second part of that clause. It's intent was 'this only pertains to slaves'. It's not just birthright citizenship to people born here, but born here and ',and subject to the jurisdiction thereof'. If it was just 'born here', there would be no need for this language. There is nothing superfluous in the constitution. In 1870, that language would indicate that you had to be seen as property of the state to qualify. It existed entirely to make slaves citizens, not to grant a new right going forward.

As a Canadian, the thing with health care at least where i live is, walk-in clinics are really good, going to the hospital for the emergency room is free but people wait long hours, and where i live, you would have to go to certain hospitals for certain things. Thats the only thing that is "bad"

In a country where the majority of bankruptcy is due to medical debt... something must change. Higher taxes to cover a national health care plan for all, can work. Australia has this hybridised system in which you can still have private health cover, if you wish. There is a levy that is paid for health care if you do not have private cover. It works. All emergency operations and medical procedures are free, essentially. Emergency room visits, essentially free. It is a more socialist based healthcare but when implemented correctly, it can be extremely beneficial for the majority of the populace. Not without its problems and of course the issues of overcrowding etc are still present but at least there are not people going bankrupt to give their children emergency treatments or just general healthcare. I pay around $60 a week for full hospital cover that entitles me to many things and even most treatments from allied health care professionals such as chiro, physio, whatever. I get dental, joint and spinal surgeries are completely covered, ful dental coverage with annual cleaning and whitening covered and so on and so forth. Because i pay the $60 per week, i am exempt from the annual levy, which is roughly $3500. So therefore, i am ahead financially. As my annual cost for a very high cover private health cover is only $3100 a year and i dont have to pay a $3500 a year levy. I am entitled to full coverage and due to government health care i can go to the doctor and receive money back, i can get emergency surgeries, i can visit emergency rooms, and so on and so on - essentially for free.

I make $40/hr in Texas and live well. Spent a year in California making over $50/hr and never felt so poor in my whole life.

Trump is 100% on minimum wage. The minimum wage in my state is still the federal minimum, but the fast food and retail jobs here all pay $14-$18/hr. As it turns out the minimum value of 1 hour's worth of low skill labor is determined by the market not the government.

AFAIK: Most countries require one or both parents to have the citizenship in order for their kid to get that citizenship.
The countries that are debuff dont do it.
Brazil is one, they have nothing to give you so you can get citizenship if you spawn there.
There is usually another option to naturalize in most countries but you're right. Some countries don't have that option either but many of them are struggling because people don't tend to get visas to visit countries they can never become a citizen of. Even if it takes a long time and is difficult. Immigration is basically helping the low birth rates in a lot of developed countries.

The best replacement is to actually create a new 501c designation for non-profit health insurance.
This still decentralizes healthcare from a single slurce by providing compitition within the market but removed the profit incentive from the equation.
Also by designating it its own 501c status any premiuk collected from the insured can be viewed as a donation and thus be re-written into the tax code the be a healthy citizen tax credit at the end of the year thus giving almost all of the paid premium back to the insured.

I’m half hispanic half white, my ex wife was from Egypt, and two girlfriends were born in Iran. My family and all of theirs had to be patient and wait their turn. Some of them had their family’s split just to make enough money to bring the others over. My ex wife was Christian and fled being killed by the Muslims, my girlfriend was a Bahai which are persecuted and killed by Muslims in Iran and she had to be a refugee in turkey for years. For years, I was that person you described. I made too much money for assistance and not enough to afford health insurance. I was fined every year for not having it until Trump's administration got rid of the fine. It was cheaper for me to pay the fine those first few years, but since they increased it each year if you had to pay it, eventually, I don't know what I would have done. All the while I had to pay for my healthcare costs out of pocket including prescriptions. (The cost OOP for my prescription per month was cheaper than paying for health insurance AND my prescription.)
But some of my friends and family didn't believe me and didn't want to hear it. One family member told me I was selfish and some other horrible things simply because I wanted something different from the ACA.

Take the maximum amount you can make for instance. most will cut their hours down, so they are right in the threshold to qualify for the month, then after you qualify, you can go back to normal hours. as long as you report those as your hours and they match with the paycheck you provide, there is not a need to verify, at least in my state. Others will say they are homeless when they are truly not in order to qualify for "hot meals" at a fast-food place. So many ways to get around the system, it took a toll on me seeing so many people lie and cheat the system while they spend their money on luxury items.

As another Canadian, the Single Payer model we have is not working well. At least in the last 10 years or so. Are there other countries that do it better? Absolutely! I've heard the Nordic model works pretty well, where it's a combination of private/public.
Essentially, the government gives you a 'voucher' for the procedure you need done, and you get to pick the private hospital/provider to do it. Still gives that incentive for private entities to do well to increase business, without overcharging you for a bandaid.
As someone who grew up in NB and moved to the US, it is very dependent on where you are located in Canada as to how your hospitals are. Don’t forget over half the country lives in a small area, those guys are better off because the government doesn’t care about the rural Canadians.

Raising minimum wage is a way to cover the fact that things are outrageously expensive. If you increase the minimum wage then the prices will go up. It’s a never ending cycle
And if you don't increase it, the prices/cost of living still rapidly goes up regardless, almost as if that's just an excuse to not raise it in order for companies to continue to maximize profits at the cost of their employees and customers alike.
Prices are going up no matter what you doofus. California raised its minimum wage for fast food workers and the price increase was negligible. States with low minimum wage are seeing things become as expense as states with higher minimum wage.

But somewhere along the way it got co-opted to mean "Yeah, any baby born here by illegal immigrants is a citizen for no justifiable reason."

I don't understand why so many people don't get it. My brother was born in Naples, Italy to American parents. He is not automatically an Italian citizen by simple virtue of being born there. That's it. The majority of the world is this way and are right to do so.
The problem is that for decades it was a policy that being born in USA makes you become USA citizen. Even if they change this policy from today, you can't apply it retroactively. Also, a parent's county is not in any obligation to give a child that was born in the USA and got USA citizenship, a citizenship of their parent's country, or even allow them in that country as "immigrants" from USA. USA could exhort diplomatic pressures regarding this on some countries, but you will for sure have countries that would not comply.

The parents have the legal right to have a child reside with them, only obligation being to register the child's residence through the proper channels. When the children turn 18 (or whatever the legal age might be), they can request citizenship on their own.

In the US, this shared belief is the fundamental principles both defined and implied by the constitution, specifically the bill of rights. One of those concepts is the idea of all men being created equal. I’m sure you can see how that idea can morph into at least a justification for looser immigration laws as well as policies that allow for anchor babies and the like.
The majority of the old world is like that, the new world has majority birthright citizenship due to vast amounts of immigration. Please learn some history before you speak.

My wife and I have been without health insurance (until just recently) because for our family they wanted 2k a month for the lowest tier health insurance for a 10k yearly family deductible. Our mortgage is 1.3k a month for reference. When my wife told me that we have to have insurance, I told her that us not having food and electricity would effect us LONG before lack of insurance. For our family of 6, we were just above the income level to get government assistance.
Before Obamacare, we paid 750-800 a month for 2.5k yearly family deductible.

As a Canadian, I know for fact our healthcare system is quickly degrading. It's filled with middle management bloat skyrocketing prices, which has inturn decreased services and stagnated wages. Nurses and Doctors get trained here, then leave to the USA to earn good money. Now days our ER's are slow and under staffed, wait times to see a doctor are getting longer and longer. Nationalized health care NEEDS a DOGE department to keep it accountable and FOR the citizens they are funded by. Too easily any nationalized program in any capacity is ripe for corruption.

Those children have been getting their citizenship not from the Constitution but by executive fiat, which is how it’s been for years. People quoting the 14th Amendment actually have no idea what they’re talking about and are merely repeating a gross oversimplification meant for casual conversation rather what the actual interpretations of the Amendment and subsequent policies are.

This Birth right citizenship in any case was a huge over-site in the 14th amendment, it should not apply to kids that were born between two non citizens.This wasn't added to prevent southern democrats after the civil war from saying all children that were born from slaves are not citizens since the slaves were non citizens when they had their children, this would allow them to challenge their rights to vote, freedom from slavery, etc but should be changed now.
The argument/challenge will be around the "and subject to the jurisdiction thereof" part. Slaves were, it can be said that illegals may not be in the same way.

There's a second part of that clause. It's intent was 'this only pertains to slaves'. It's not just birthright citizenship to people born here, but born here and ',and subject to the jurisdiction thereof'. If it was just 'born here', there would be no need for this language. There is nothing superfluous in the constitution. In 1870, that language would indicate that you had to be seen as property of the state to qualify. It existed entirely to make slaves citizens, not to grant a new right going forward.

As a Canadian, the thing with health care at least where i live is, walk-in clinics are really good, going to the hospital for the emergency room is free but people wait long hours, and where i live, you would have to go to certain hospitals for certain things.

It would have to be transparent and answer to a department of government efficiency. Which they are already planning to put into place. In a country where the majority of bankruptcy is due to medical debt... something must change. Higher taxes to cover a national health care plan for all, can work. Australia has this hybridised system in which you can still have private health cover, if you wish. There is a levy that is paid for health care if you do not have private cover. It works. All emergency operations and medical procedures are free, essentially. Emergency room visits, essentially free. It is a more socialist based healthcare but when implemented correctly, it can be extremely beneficial for the majority of the populace. Not without its problems and of course the issues of overcrowding etc are still present but at least there are not people going bankrupt to give their children emergency treatments or just general healthcare. I pay around $60 a week for full hospital cover that entitles me to many things and even most treatments from allied health care professionals such as chiro, physio, whatever. I get dental, joint and spinal surgeries are completely covered, ful dental coverage with annual cleaning and whitening covered and so on and so forth. Because i pay the $60 per week, i am exempt from the annual levy, which is roughly $3500. So therefore, i am ahead financially. As my annual cost for a very high cover private health cover is only $3100 a year and i dont have to pay a $3500 a year levy. I am entitled to full coverage and due to government health care i can go to the doctor and receive money back, i can get emergency surgeries, i can visit emergency rooms, and so on and so on - essentially for free.
Yeah, that same excess profit margin would just go to the government instead of private companies

2-3 hour ER wait is considered quick and the attention you get is very mixed quality. You can do public and wait a dumb amount of time or do private and pay a lot either way we still pay the high taxes for mediocre service.
