With the Vatican II mandate of localisation of the Mass, Fr. Honti began to write liturgical hymns in the 1960s. He wrote his first hymn for services at the Jesuit-administered parish at Barangka, Marikina, with the intent that it could be easily sung and learnt by ordinary Filipinos. This brought about the tradition of Filipino popular hymnody which was later labelled "Jesuit Music"
The arrangement preserved the pastorela rhythm (the triplet consisting of a dotted eighth-sixteenth-eighth OR quarter-eighth pattern). Malimit hindi ito napepreserba kaya mediyo waltzy yung ibang pag awit ng mga pastorela (including the Santo Pastorela II of Honti which is patterned after the Gloria of P Hernandez).
Hello po Sir Roy! Salamat po sa arrangement na ito. Every Christmas season po pinapatugtog ko ito sa church namin dito sa Milan bago magsimula ang Mass. Miyembro po kasi ako sa SocMed at the same time Choir member din po. Kinakanta rin po namin ito with keyboard accompanying us. Pero since umalis na yung nagtuturo sa amin we were left with no recorded accompaniment kaya hindi namin nakakanta. Pwede po ba ako himingi ng midi format nito para makanta namin at maging festive ang mga masses namin sa simula pa lang? Maraming salamat po & keep on sharing your God's given talent. Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam...
