I’m DJ Lil Bit out of Lubbock Tx. I had my first gig a few years back. I bought my stuff from my bro- in- law. It was a last min wedding. The Brides son got drunk, cops got called, people got tased and put in jail. I was scared to preform again but I did a couple of gigs for family members, recorded the nights, upgraded my equipment and made a Facebook page. I started getting more gigs. At the end of the night I ask a few people to go leave reviews and it works. I’ve gotten so many more gigs. I booked 2 weddings and a sweet 16 this week alone. If things go the way they are. I’ll be booked all summer til the end of fall. I’m so excited to see where things take me. Thanks Barr for the tips.
Great video man! I can relate a lot. In 2017 I was DJ’ing in my bedroom after moving to Cali and playing only for friends. I had mentioned it to my coworkers and sure enough the following year I was asked to dj the company holiday party. At that party one of the employees asked me to dj their wedding and I got my first paying gig. After that i did a ton of research including watching all your videos. Started my company officially and the Rest is history! We all gotta start somewhere!

I played my first gig in march 2019. I was still 16yo. I was paid $30 xD. I never played for free;) I started to be recognizable as a dj in my high school. One year later I played halfprom in my school - my biggest gig
I got started DJing while In was in the military at the NCO clubs with one of my platoon Sgt. We were using CDJs and I got hooked entered a competition on base got 3rd place outta 5 DJs. Feeding of the energy of the crowd was outstanding.
My first party was at a club in the Bronx it was called first class night club in 1984 it was awesome it was about 800 people and from there on it was history
since watching your Chanel i have finally brought some DJ gear and want to do events and functions I am using your knowledge to start trying to get gigs what is a good price to pay when hiring speakers and what sort of price do I charge if I have to hire
Bro! You nailed it! And this is coming from a former #LosAngeles ON-AIR FM radio mixer with experience! ..but I went by another Dj name 😎 LOL (just recently I changed my name, I guess the pandemic killed my ego and grew my soul! Lol) but yo!,.. I must say that what you said in this video, you hit the target dead center! I’ve been watching you for a minute and I had to comment on this video because it was a great video! Keep it up! And maybe one day I’ll get to shake your hand! Much respect from Los Angeles! #MyDudeTheDj 🙏🏼
I did my first few gigs for free and also for friends and family of friends stuff like that. then year later is was earning extra income as a DJ on the side :)
Awesome tips!! One aspect that’s work for me so far especially when it comes to getting more wedding gigs are professionalism and reliability. People always remember those two aspects
what I've learned about the local entertainment industry regardless of what state city county you are in, it's quite a small bubble and everyone knows each other, once u start doing gigs with multi opps and they heard good things about you people are going to be getting to know you quickly so you need to be ready to get off on the right foot by being good enough and being prepared.
I’m a 15 year old dj and want to dj at clubs but I’m not old enough to enter I’ve been djing for 7 years and become a pro but they don’t let me dj at their clubs what should I do?
Started with high school events, slowly builder a brand. And now I’m working for my own company doing a variety of events both private and corporate. With a great team :)
I was gonna say. 2019!!! Haha. I was like wait. I know I seen him before that. And. My Favorite store. CANAL. HIFI.... I bought my first subs there.. Jr.. earthquakes.... Yeahhhh Boioooy..
People trip out, because when I was going to high school, they knew me as the one blind kid that DJs, and I’ve gotten a lot of gigs because of people that know me
I actually started out as a KJ. I had/have a massive karaoke setup. At the time, I had a DDJ-400 that stayed packed away unless I pulled it out to mess around at home from time to time. The resident DJ at the bar I was hosting karaoke for wasn't working out for them. So, they asked me if I knew how to DJ as well. They didn't have in-house gear. So, I broke out the DDJ-400 and went to work DJing a couple of nights a week also. Turns out they liked me. Now, I'm rocking the DDJ-1000. I still host karaoke too. The versatility of being able to switch from DJ to KJ opened up a lot of doors for me. The commercial gigs are primarily DJing. The private gigs almost always turn into karaoke when the guests get enough liquid courage in them.
Hey Barr, I think you meant 2009 it's when you started. It can't be 2019 as you stated at the start of the video. You've been posting videos for a few years now. Just an observation...
I've never wanted DJing to become a job...so because I work at a school I started doing dances for the dorm and student council for free so they can use that money for better food or activities...I loved it...then coworkers began asking me to dj graduation parties...I told the "feed me" i love the way music makes people feel...so when I am allowed back out I hope to do more with my community to help it get back on its feet
2002 got into radio. Other guys were djing there.. bought an old Stanton cd changer. GF at the times father bought me the amp, speakers and a mic. Then I built up. Like you.. super slow lol. I was horrible, there wasn’t much guidance in the radio circles. Maybe it’s an ego thing? I got in with a few dj companies. Learned a bit there. Fast forward to 2005 I transferred to a rock station, new city no friends, and I went to a bar on a slow night and landed some nights there on the house cdj-800s? Then it went from Wednesday nights to Wednesday-Saturdays. Open format was my favorite, but I leaned on hip hop. Over the years kept at it built up. Word of mouth was the best for me plus I was the local rock station main guy. Landed better like minded friends and been doing it since. I got into the weddings for the money being that I didn’t have much family and core friend support. Stayed consistent, married up and landed a gogo dancer lol and she created our company and manages me. Lol. Now I just got let go from my 18 year run in radio, but man as soon as shit opens we good and back at it. Boom.. story. Short version. Favorite parties are the swinger parties.. those.. are fun. Lol. But weddings with a club lean pay! Go work. 🤙🏾
*2009 not 2019 lol
Bruh lol...I was confused 😂😂😂
Hahaha, I was like WHAT?!?
Ah, explains.
Hm I started in 2003 and I'm back in my own mancave after a very little bit of success in 2010-2011.. 😆
I replayed the start 4 times I'm like no way I been watching longer than 2019 lol
Dude i almost lost it……
Good stuff/info bro 👍🏽👍🏽 Thanks for being transparent AND 💯

Do gigs at schools. Super fun. It is also your age range so you know what is popular.
Started with high school events, slowly builder a brand. And now I’m working for my own company doing a variety of events both private and corporate. With a great team :)

You know how I can get more gigs have the country clubs and catering halls reopen and to allow more than 30 people. I can’t wait for 2020 to end.

Promoters always cry poverty 😥
