Is it true that some drivers would rather avoid the arrester bed and "take a chance" because using the bed results in an immediate inspection and likely defect and an expensive tow out fee. It's cheaper to take the speeding fine and body corporate fee than the other costs.
I only drive a 10t gvm curtain truck. Only have 6 gears to choose from. Well 5 really as 1st gear I almost never use. Selecting 3rd gear puts me at about 35-38kph having to actually use the accelerator to keep up to 38 where it starts redlining. Came up on a truck one day doing 30. Of course we're not supposed to use noisy exhaust brakes and mine are very noisy in a 2004 Hino. Had no choice but to go around him in the 3 lane section or I would have to either ride my brakes to not hit him up the rear or use my exhaust brake. 2nd gear I'm struggling to do 20kph so the only option is 3rd.

I remember when the trip up and down were one lane each way. Always a good ride but there have been some terrible accidents on it over the years.

crazy they wont let you use the exhaust brake in a spot where you clearly need it.
It was a deadly descent I attended a fatal crash back in 1977. Such a waste of life.
