I am looking for answers about Renault engine leaking oil and I realize that I've just ended up on channel of a guy I am watching for DCS videos. Even TH-cam is such a small world?
great video, cap, hope you don´t "screw it up" ^^ there is so much i would mess up, changing the timing belt, good to see, that you obviously know, what to do^^
I had exactly this car about ten years ago. 100% agree on the peculiar French layouts, friends Peugeot was no better. The water pump location is absolutely typical. I also wonder if a Mirage is equally awkward to service!
As I understand it the variator uses centrifugal weights to change timing. Main reason to replace an old one is with mileage they weight parts begin to rattle so the engine sounds like a diesel on idle.
I don't believe they take the engine out, they just loosen the mounts and move the engine over as far as possible. K Tec do a full belts / dephaser and water pump change for under £700 I believe. At least I hope they do because I'm on 134K last done 80k.
Hello, you've descrived my feelings so well... everytime you make some progress new tooling is needed. GOD DAMN IT! is making me so angry!! thanks for the video. Regards
Haha cap i work at a subaru dealer. We remove engines for everything haha. They come out really quick in most cases. The fast guys are pulling the non-turbos in around 35-40 minutes
12:38 Most of the time if a "part" is required to be placed in an exact angle after being torqued. It is connected or joined in someway to other components inside the engine. If the angle is off to much the internal components may smash into other moving components and cause permeant damage. This is one of the more severe possibilities that can happen in a few engines. Another is the fuel to air mixture isn't "timed" correctly. Engine chambers don't seal fully before the fuel is ignited. Which leads to less power output of the engine. The general idea is, if it's attached to the timing belt or chain, something inside the motor is planned to move at precise timed intervals. And others engine components are just planned to rotate constantly like a water pump. Google: engine rockers. a few pictures should fill in the gaps as to how full mechanical engines work.
Oh man.. timing belt change.. i cringed the moment you said that.. Here is an idea for DCS.. how well can you take off, go to a bombing range and try to hit your targets then land while drunk vs sober :D
@@grimreapers I thought you might appreciate my car, good sir. 😉 And, correct, I blew the apex seals on my rear rotor. Was able to limp her home running on just one.
@@grimreapers My real problem is getting her into a garage where I can really do some work, none of my friends have space enough for a job that supposed to take 18 hours. At least the seal kits are cheap, around $250.00
Hey the engine is facing the wrong way... Go to Maccas get two plastic trays, put them under the rear wheels, put handbrake on and do some donuts for us Super Cap 😝 Do you ride motorbikes, if so if you ever come down under we can stick you on one of our race bikes 😬 Ps: They are called E-Torx sockets. Also Bolt torque is to get to snug point (correct tension) . Then the angle to to give the bolt the correct stretch.
@@S.ASmith its happened to me someone just put the same reg plate as mine on their very similar car I got a load of fines from the other side of the country
it's a friendly engine if you take your time, no reason to curse it but I do take it out to do the timing. whoever wanted to take the engine out to change the alternator was a liar and an idiot
Dont worry about the seals on a Renault, probably not your fault. Common issue even on newer Renault meganes and trafics to have leaky seals or dodgy sensors (especially MAF sensors or on diesels, anti-pollution sensors). Can't get along with french vehicles, had more luck with british built fords.
Grim reapers at it again with informative, entertaining content 😁

Would have been nice to see the actual taking apart and reassembly.
Yeh I need a tripod for camera I guess.
@@grimreapers That wasn't a criticism , it was just that the stuff you did show us was very well done and explained very well.

E sockets or female torx are used a lot on light vehicles
How do you use tacan ???
How did you take off the Aux-Belt?
my bro has one...his favorite mechanic told him...ok its changed but i dont want to see this car here again :D:D so now we do it at home...

Holy cow. If you come across any Classic STi V6 for sale plz let me know :)
@@grimreapers being in canada they were never sold new here, so they're pretty rare as imports
How did You remove the lower(plastic) timing belt cover? Did You raise that side of the engine so much that it’s possible? I can’t figure it out😄
Yeh, undo engine mounts and put engine up on jack. be REALLY careful.
@@grimreapers Cheers, I’ll try that, lift as little as needed, I suppose👍
I bet this car has a full fidelity dashboard
The bits that still work...

judging by the big lump of iron it has an automatic transmission. yeah, throw it away, you won't notice it was there.

You're doing it wrong... First you need to drink bottle of wine before fixing renöö 😅
Also 12 point socket or wrench works on those torx bolts.
Too much waffle, and then jumps to everything stripped of without any comment on how it was done.
