I love this. I did one last year, I'm pretty much half European countries (Scandinavian, Dutch and British) and half Southeast Asian (Indonesia). It's really interesting to find out! 🥰
I did a DNA test with 23 and me and I came out 98% Korean and 2% Japanese. The DNA tests are tricky because for instance with Korea and Japan, it would depend on if the shared DNA is from prehistorical connections (ie there was a time when the same people came from both Korea and Japan 1000 BC) or from more "recent" times. And today's tests can arbitrarily label that ancient connection as "Korean" or "Japanese". For ancient DNA, I prefer western naming models like ""Iberian"" (Spain and Portugal) or the British Isles (Ireland, Scotland Wales England).
@ACTA Yes, I agree! remember in history Manchu lands were at one time Barhae (발해) territory and before that it used to be Goguryeo (고구려)! Manchu DNA itself could contain Korean DNA.
Most white Americans I think are mostly European decent. Sadly there isn’t much actual Native Americans left. No one in my recent genealogy is European but I’m still almost 100% from European countries. I am 40% Scottish just because regionally in the US a lot of Scottish and Irish settlers came to my part of the US in Appalachia. I love genealogy this was fun to watch.

Don’t take it too seriously, in the end the results depend on the samples those companies collected, and different company has different samples. For example If a full blood Korean does test in a Chinese company, he will get over 50% northern Chinese.

These videos are always so interesting to watch. 😄 On both sides of my family we are (culturally) mostly East European, except for one of my grandmas who was mostly Scottish and Northern European. So we got what we expected to see when we did the Ancestry test but I actually pulled a higher percentage of Russian, as well as about 12-18 percent from the Siberian region including Mongolia and parts of West Asia and Middle East Asia. My family on one side has pretty recent Romani ancestors (pre-WW2), so that was interesting to see kind of played out on the map thing they give you. Human migration patterns and world history have always fascinated me so I guess I fit the demographic these DNA kits market to. Lol 😂

I was born in S Korea and identify as Korean, but I am sure I have Japanese, Mongolian, and Chinese DNA. Same if you are Japanese or Chinese. My mother actually has bluish eyes, so maybe even a few percent Dutch or Russian DNA also. Not significant really, what's important is the culture you grew up with and the identity that it gives you.

I agree but Americans have been living apart from their European/African ancestors for some time now (over 250 years) so I would argue they sort of evolved to be their own "ethnicity" if you will. For instance, my friends have German ancestry but anything "German" is not even part of their consciousness let alone culture. Whereas my Korean and Chinese American friends the culture is conscious and currently relevant if you know what I mean.

And as many Korean-Americans can tell you, although we may be familiar with and knowledgeable of Korean culture, we see ourselves culturally different than South Koreans.
@@oppaheimer88 Of course we're different than South Koreans. But I still contend we're not AS different than say with many Americans with German ancestry with native Germans, per say. White people in America are mixed Europeans and many don't know their individual ancestries until they take a DNA test. That's why they just identify more as American than say German-American or even mixed European-American. Also, Europeans came the US to escape the continent from either religious or political persecution. I had a Polish-American friend in college and he flat out told me why should I have a hyphen as an American. He said he's just American. His grandparents and great grandparents actually discouraged passing down their culture and even language. With Asian immigrants its more about preserving and passing down our heritage. Of course, I'm speaking with broad strokes and generalizing a lot. There are a lot of exceptions of course, like the religious Amish who have German ancestry.
Watched a few vids of Korean DNA testing and it seems most Korean were not 'pure' Koreans which have a pretty high percentage of Japanese or Chinese blood in them.
I’m surprised at Adi’s results. I’m half Korea and half Italian. My Korean percentage is 46.2%. I have Japanese and Chinese dna too. My Korean cousin explained to me that the Japanese part comes from their ruling of Korea from 1910-1945. Idk if this is correct but it would explain it.
I disagree and agree somewhat. If you look at history AND prehistory you will see that there have been many more times or opportunities Japan/Korea shared DNA even more than other countries like China. China is a huge country that encompasses many cultures. If there were something similar in Europe perhaps, the Roman empire, Europe could have been one country too until modern times. I study Korean and Japanese history. One of the earliest times Japan and Korea shared DNA was in prehistory when "Yayoi" from Asia migrated to Japan. Some of the Yayoi came from southwestern Korea. And this was about several thousands of years before 1 AD . Later on that same area became the Mahan confederacy and then one of them called Baekje took over. By the 3rd to 5th centuries AD, we see in both Korean and Japanese literature that there existed a familial relationship between the royalty, more like an older brother or father (Baekje) to son relationship (Yamato Japan). Then there was a huge influx of immigrants from all 3 Korean states to Japan especially when Goguryeo fell in 668 AD and Baekje fell in 660. Of course, immigration wasn't a continual stream to Japan. It was sporadic and in waves. Another well known event was during the Imjin waeran war, when Korean potters were kidnapped to Japan in 1592-1598. Their descendants still live in Japan to this day. And that brings us to the colonial period 1910-1945. It was 35 years where Korea lost it's sovereignty. That meant that all classes of Koreans travelled back and forth to Japan. Some educated Koreans like my grandfather went to university while others were forced into hard labor for the war effort.

i understand that his reaction may be somewhat offensive to some people. Historically, there have been complicated relationships between China/Japan and Korea. Also, although such DNA testing is pretty popular among Americans and many of them are well aware that they might be from multiple ethnic backgrounds, I don’t think a lot of Koreans are familiar or comfortable? with the idea. When I did mine, I also got 30% Japanese and was quite surprised, which, though, had nothing to do with my perception towards Japanese. 30% was just much greater than I had expected, but I learned that it wasn’t uncommon for Korean.
This seems better for Asians. You said in video avg for Korean is 50% Korean, 25% Chinese, and 25% Japanese. Don't use 23andme. Very lazy and inaccurate for Asians. They will just say 100% Korean, or Japanese, or Chinese, etc.

I was born in S Korea and identify as Korean, but I am sure I have Japanese, Mongolian, and Chinese DNA. Same if you are Japanese or Chinese. My mother actually has bluish eyes, so maybe even a few percent Dutch or Russian DNA also. Not significant really, what's important is the culture you grew up with and the identity that it gives you.

I agree but Americans have been living apart from their European/African ancestors for some time now (over 250 years) so I would argue they sort of evolved to be their own "ethnicity" if you will. For instance, my friends have German ancestry but anything "German" is not even part of their consciousness let alone culture. Whereas my Korean and Chinese American friends the culture is conscious and currently relevant if you know what I mean.

White people in America are mixed Europeans and many don't know their individual ancestries until they take a DNA test. That's why they just identify more as American than say German-American or even mixed European-American. Also, Europeans came the US to escape the continent from either religious or political persecution. I had a Polish-American friend in college and he flat out told me why should I have a hyphen as an American. He said he's just American. His grandparents and great grandparents actually discouraged passing down their culture and even language. With Asian immigrants its more about preserving and passing down our heritage. Of course, I'm speaking with broad strokes and generalizing a lot. There are a lot of exceptions of course, like the religious Amish who have German ancestry.

I’m surprised at Adi’s results. I’m half Korea and half Italian. My Korean percentage is 46.2%. I have Japanese and Chinese dna too. My Korean cousin explained to me that the Japanese part comes from their ruling of Korea from 1910-1945. Idk if this is correct but it would explain it.

I disagree and agree somewhat. If you look at history AND prehistory you will see that there have been many more times or opportunities Japan/Korea shared DNA even more than other countries like China. China is a huge country that encompasses many cultures. If there were something similar in Europe perhaps, the Roman empire, Europe could have been one country too until modern times. I study Korean and Japanese history. One of the earliest times Japan and Korea shared DNA was in prehistory when "Yayoi" from Asia migrated to Japan. Some of the Yayoi came from southwestern Korea. And this was about several thousands of years before 1 AD . Later on that same area became the Mahan confederacy and then one of them called Baekje took over. By the 3rd to 5th centuries AD, we see in both Korean and Japanese literature that there existed a familial relationship between the royalty, more like an older brother or father (Baekje) to son relationship (Yamato Japan). Then there was a huge influx of immigrants from all 3 Korean states to Japan especially when Goguryeo fell in 668 AD and Baekje fell in 660. Of course, immigration wasn't a continual stream to Japan. It was sporadic and in waves. Another well known event was during the Imjin waeran war, when Korean potters were kidnapped to Japan in 1592-1598. Their descendants still live in Japan to this day. And that brings us to the colonial period 1910-1945. It was 35 years where Korea lost it's sovereignty. That meant that all classes of Koreans travelled back and forth to Japan. Some educated Koreans like my grandfather went to university while others were forced into hard labor for the war effort.

예를 들면, 어떤 특정 변이dna의 유래를 한국인으로 보면 님은 그 변이에 관해서는 한국인 판정을 받을 것이고 동일한 변이dna를 일본인으로 보면 일본인 판정받습니다.

i understand that his reaction may be somewhat offensive to some people. Historically, there have been complicated relationships between China/Japan and Korea. Also, although such DNA testing is pretty popular among Americans and many of them are well aware that they might be from multiple ethnic backgrounds, I don’t think a lot of Koreans are familiar or comfortable? with the idea. When I did mine, I also got 30% Japanese and was quite surprised, which, though, had nothing to do with my perception towards Japanese. 30% was just much greater than I had expected, but I learned that it wasn’t uncommon for Korean.
