GAS FLARE ERUPTS AGAIN IN ENUGU.
Enugu State Fire Service has swiftly extinguished another gas flare, this time from borehole drilling at the Federal Housing Estate, Ugwogo Nike.
Saturday night's flare, which started around 10:30 p.m., sent rig operators and locals fleeing, calling in mind a similar incident near Caritas University in May 2022 that lasted for over 20 days
The State Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Sam Ugwu, who inspected the site on Sunday, emphasized the state's determination to harness its dormant mineral resources while warning against unauthorized borehole drilling.
The state Chief Fire Officer, Okwudiri Ohaa attributed their quick response to insights gained from the Caritas University flare.
A member of the drilling firm, Kamarudeen Ado told newsmen that they were hock at the unexpected gas emergence, but assured that no lives were lost and injured individuals are being treated at a local hospital.
