Covert Narcissists ALWAYS Do This One Predictable Thing // Covert narcissists always do this one predictable thing, no matter where they land on the spectrum of destructive covert narcissism.
The reality, however, is the covert narcissist will present quite differently than their more overt and grandiose narcissist counterparts. This is why covert narcissists in relationships can be more difficult to identify, particularly in the early stages of getting to know them.
That said, covert narcissist personality disorder can, in many ways, be just as predictable as any other narcissist.
This is why it’s so important to know what narcissistic signs to be on the lookout for, whether your challenges have to do with your covert narcissist boyfriend, your covert narcissist mother, some other covert narcissist female, or more specifically, covert narcissists and money.
The covert narcissist husband as well as the covert narcissist wife are especially draining while employing their particular brand of narcissistic abuse. Don’t forget, these people are highly adept at emotional manipulation, so you definitely want to be able to spot the signs of narcissistic abuse ahead of time.
In this video, I explain the one predictable thing people with covert narcissism always do, as well as a number of telltale signs that the person you’re dealing with likely has a destructive narcissist personality pattern.
    I hope it helps!
    Enjoy!

I lived with my covert narcissistic husband for 23 years. He lied about our money. He kept secrets, and kept me at a distance, and thought I was stupid for not seeing through him. He had a horrible temper, and thrives on starting fights or chaos. Due to this, and my being sick w Lyme Disease untreated for a decade so I didn’t have the energy to challenge him. Plus, I never thought he’d betray me so badly while I was sick. I knew he was a bit off right from the beginning when we met, and when I met his dysfunctional family I felt sorry for him bc his mother was insane and extremely mean. He said he hated her. But, now he’s turned out just like her.
I divorced him, and he lied about the money in court. He raked me over the coals, and 13 years later he still pays ppl to troll me everywhere I go. I’m harassed, and ppl r told I’m unstable. He turned the tables on me. He’s disgusting, heartless, and mean.

This is my mother in law. I went no-contact with her in 2018 and to this very day, she has been on a mission to tear me down and get me back into her fold through my husband because, if she can convince him to force me back, that means she can control both of us and she can put her mask back on. She's tried to poison him by telling him to divorce me, that I am destroying the family, that he needs to force me to have a relationship with her and make me go to therapy with her so we can have a "mother/daughter relationship" (her crazy words). She's even threatened to take back his inheritance if he didn't make me see her. The things that she has said about me to my husband is vile and disgusting. She's been abusing my husband for years now and sadly, he has so much guilt and shame that he's in a "informative denial" of his mom's narcissism, meaning that he deep down knows what she is but doesnt want to confront it. His tactic on handling is it literally wait until she dies.....not the best tactic, right? At the moment, she's breadcrumbing him through sending cards and letters with simple "this made me think of you" written on it but she refuses to pick up the phone when he calls her. I know what she's doing but he doesnt want to think that she can be that much of a monster. She is. I could go on and on but the things that she's done to myself and him over the past few years is astounding....she was even committed and had ECT treatments a few times because she had a narcissistic meltdown. But I still hold my ground. I know what she is.

She then accused me of being “mad at her” when I didn’t go along with it.🤔 And then after giving her many chances, I finally distanced myself for good. She then said she was extremely depressed because I wasn’t having a good relationship with her or hanging out with her anymore. But I did not fall for it, I’m done.

Not one person on this planet would ever believe how he treated me. Random acts of violence, I hit him too. Shoving a dirty tissue inside my mouth that had been used to clean a toilet. Constant porn, sexting and hook up sites. Would not touch me for months, if I attempted to at being physical would always turn me down and if I attempted to talk about the issue he would say that I should keep trying. When we were physical, I rarely climaxed. Constantly looking at other women whilst I was there, would make me feel like I was stupid in subtle way, well I was to put up with that for over 25 years.

The church I used to work at - the worship leader is a covert narcissist. He has so many people deceived and on his side - mostly because he is a boss over a lot of volunteers and a few staff. Since he is the “boss” he already gets general obedience. I didn’t work for him so any time something happened I was able to give push back and he tried to destroy me. Eventually I knew something was wrong with him not knowing about narcissism, but I distanced myself more and more.

Hello Tami, my name is Ramon and i can definitely relate to my most recent relationship that ended a week ago. I figured her out and she coukd not take it. I realized lies and things started to make more sense. She plays the victim and even her mother was telling me that i should just leave her alone. It came to a shock to me. As soon as i started to call her out, everything went downhill. Almost 2 yrs of love bombing and and being by myside. But she started to slip up and i started to notice a lot more than before. Her lies sometimes didnt make sense and she thought she could manipulate me the way she did before. Now im ghosted once i brought up the wird Narcissist. We stayed in touch just as friends but, once i brought up this subject, ive been ghosted for a few days now. Now as much as i hate what she did, id rather help her. I know i probably wont be able to but because i have love for her, i get concerned. Thank you Tami.

They are uncanny, lie in a different way than the overt one, are present, when they are physicly absent and make you feel guilty for being alive.
They are shapeshifting and unreal. You can not confront them. They are the most backhanded manifestation you will ever encounter.
Perfect victimhood as a predatory parasitic psychopath....
I feel like, they are so dirty, I wish I would never have been forced to study this.
    I want to unknow them.

A quiet way they play the victim.... after you expose them and what they did to you.... my covert just says " if you say so..... if you say these things about me you must be right.." ... this is how he quietly makes himself a victim .. that's a sinister way of making you feel guilty and question yourself..... and him being the good one... it also saves them to question themselves...... i think this is a way evil way of playing the victim card

I was in my 50's when I started to suspect that my mom was on this spectrum. And it was a long ti.e after that before I heard the term 'cover narcissist'. No one else in my family or any family friends seem to notice anything amiss. So I have had to question myself unceasingly throughout my life.
It should be irrelevant to me now, since I'm in my 60's and my mom has been gone a few years, but I still feel comforted by finding information that sheds light on the confusing and conflicting feelings I have had to try and make sense of. Thank you for your work. I heard someone describe narcissism in families as 'the gift that keeps on giving', bc it's almost impossible to extricate yourself from the long term effects even after you have left the situation.

It took me years to understand the uneasy feeling in my stomach the uncomfortableness around my sister. I never understood why I never felt comfortable in her house when we would go there for Christmas or Thanksgiving. My sister never made me feel welcome. She always made me feel out of place not good enough, I couldn’t understand why and then one Christmas she had her two sons, my nephews and their wives and their children over for Thanksgiving along with me and my two children. I was a single parent.
She said let’s take Christmas pictures so the kids thinking that they would all be in the picture started lining up, my sister placed her two sons there two wives and their children in the picture along with her husband and turn to me and said would you take the picture and stepped into the picture? I stood there stunned but I said yes I will and I did and then she proceeded to take a picture of me and my children keeping the two “families” in separate pictures and then doing a family picture with all of us‼️
My children were very hurt by this as was I every year she continued this tradition of separate pictures. when my children were older, they refused to go to any holiday at my sisters where there would be pictures taken. It made them feel less than….

I had one who was a friend on and off for years. I now realise that the reason it was on and off was because I was his backup for when he couldn't get the same level of supply from other people.
I saw the light over Christmas when a mutual friend told me that he's prone to flitting between groups of people, gossiping about each depending on how receptive they are...she did it infront of the Covert's face. The Covert knows many of my secrets, I'd often divulge them to highlight ways I've matured since my Bipolar Disorder was diagnosed around 20 years ago.
After this the covert tried to tempt me with a class A drug I've always avoided and would partake in petty theft in venues I like. I've been practicing no contact, even though he owes me a lot of money.
As always, thanks for sharing your knowlege. Being a narc magnet isn't easy but it's more bearable with good guidance.
I do my best to look forward and chase my dreams/goals in the face of adversity and share what I've learned to try and help the broken empaths I care about overcome their limiting mindsets.

My ex-wife (I was married less than one year) was the absolute exact covert narcissist to a tee. She wanted me to attend to her after her elective breast augmentation and tummy tuck surgery, but when I was ill or my when my mother died -- she was never there for me. She didn't even go to my mom's funeral.
I left her as fast as I could. And once she figured out I knew what she was, she really stepped up the attacks and distancing. I can see back through the years how she got worse as a covert narcissist. I am so disappointed I missed the signs early on. In fact, she's a covert narcissist and an alocholic. Doube red flags.

It is like we are hoping to get a Lamborghini but the Lamborghini is really a Maroge. We are just searching for water and we go to the Maroge but it's not really water.
Then it was said that they're more like a lawnmower that you do not have to push one of those that has the handle when you put forward it just goes by its self ...... well, as long as we keep, putting fuel into the lawnmower, keeps running and running and running, and it will not quit until we stop putting fuel into it. She had a wardrobe of masks and I felt my gut shift often but convinced myself to overlook her bullshit because I saw what a pathetic soul she was. What Tammy says about how Coverts act when you let them know the gig is up, is so true. All manner of black, venomous bile was spewed at me which only served to validate what I knew to be lurking behind those masks.
Now I realize my life as an empath was the strength I didn’t know I owned. After hanging up on 3 narc “friendships” and 1 steamroller of a narc family member, my awareness about myself flourished. Even so, I see now what a huge space of time I wasted being someone else’s tool.

To he honest a lot of the things you said resonate with me... There are some tho that i feel are actually opposite, like for example the "friends" thing, i don't really had many superficial friends but instead i had few but very deep friendships.
I don't see the purpose at all to have a superficial friendship, so when there is a person that i can't really dive deep with in the friendship, that maybe i don't feel like i can really share things with him/her, i simply stay gentle with that person but i don't hangout with for example.
There is also the empathy thing, i'm really empathetic, to the point that when i'm around people that are suffering i can feel it and i can also become overwhelmed and i absorb external emotions like a sponge... It's really difficult to manage and in fact i need a lot of time alone to recharge and let all these emotions flow away.
I live and i'm grown in an house with a Overt Narcissistic father, a narcissistic and emotionally unstable mother and brother and a sister that suffered these things like me and that experienced a lot of depression but i don't think that she has these kinds of disorders in my opinion.
I have been abused a lot in my home and i feel stuck and powerless often, but after have gone to therapy for anxiety and after have dived deep in myself searching for the truth i reached the understanding of my situation.
To be honest i think i'm an empath, but sometimes it come to my mind the possibility that i may be narcissist like my family but covert, because i feel like by the time i have been abused and especially after recent experiences of betrayal from friends that i thought were genuenly loving me i feel a sense of remorse, anger and hate towards relationships and my vulnerability being empathetic, i'm actually struggling to trust people and i feel (and always felt) like i don't really fit in society.

@CarrieS1974 How willing are they to participate in their own healing and recovery? If they have empathy, a conscience and a desire for change, they aren't on the spectrum of destructive narcissism and change is possible. If they are empathy impaired, lacking in consience and don't see an issue with the way they're behaving, then change is not likely. They'd have to be a genuine, willing participant in their own healing and recovery and be committed to doing the work.
