    It would be cool to see a 2019 vs 2020 of the 18 year

    • @Forever0_tv
      @Forever0_tv 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So 2020 of the 18 is likely a blend of older juice and 18 year. the first date after may 2020 where it would not be all older juice is June 2020. No way they just flipped it back to 18.

      I could not determine a difference at all between 2019 and June 2020

      2020 is the oldest. The chart is wrong. I tried the 2021 and it’s way lighter in color.

    Great video. I recently bought a 12 yr. The first impression is sherry bomb indeed, but I prefer Aberlour 12. Having said that, I will do a side by side tasting to see which one I prefer.

    I'm having a bar built for my house and have been buying bottles for almost 2 months to stock it, and you guys got me with this video, this weekend I'm headed out to buy all 4 bottles, kinda one of those "can't afford not to" moments. Awesome channel guys. 👏

    One easy way to tell older bottlings is the description of sherry barrels used. They don’t specify PX casks

  • @allenbt11
    @allenbt11 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Agreed, the GD12 & GD15 are both great values. But the Glendronach Cask Strength Batch 8 is really interesting too, with a PX & Oloroso blend.

    • @FerretLife

    Glad I found this review page, these guys give good solid reviews that everyone can relate to meaning they don’t come across as whiskey snobs. My one pet peeve is I hate when they use the word juice. Don’t know why it just always bothers me when people use juice in reference to whiskey

  • @kunaalkhanna

    My favorite Highland distillery. The old 15 revival was my A-ha moment whisky that started my Scotch collection, I still have a few of the older 15s left. The other major difference with the new 15 is that it's both PX and Oloroso matured, the older 15 was Oloroso only which I preferred. The 18 though is still oloroso only matured so its my favorite of the current lineup. Whereas previously it was the 15. Great video 👍🥃

    I have a 2019 bottling of the 18 year, and it's AMAZING!!! Dalmore 12 was my first sherried scotch, and I remember thinking that maybe sherry just wasn't my thing, but Glendronach has completely changed my perspective on sherried scotches. I have the 15 year as well which is good in its own right, but I need to find a bottle of the 21.

    Another great Drinkthrough that is going to drain my bank account. I just returned from the liquor store where I purchased a GD 18 based on recommendations from a friend. Before I could open it, I watched this video. There were a couple left on the shelf. Looks like I am going back. Too bad they did not have other years - just the 18.

    Never paid attention but now realize my 15 and 18 both are from 2016 or 2017. Been putting off on 21 for a while when it was $199. I still can find one for $259 so I guess it is time to grab one and stash it for later soon.

    Glenfarclas 25 ($170) vs. Glendronach 18 ($160)? I have a 2019 Glendronach 18 and its great, but was wanting to pick up a Glenfarclas as I had never had one.

    I'd love to send you guys a sample of an 11yr store pick cask strength pick from Bayway World of Liquor. Let me know. Really would love to know how this would compare. I haven't had any of those releases, but have been looking into that allardice. So I'm very curious.

    GlenDronach is better than Macallan IMHO. The GD 12 is pretty darn good. The GD Batch Strength #8 is killer!! I finally found a bottle of it in KY. We can’t buy it in OH. After a year of looking I finally found the GD 15 in OH. Can’t wait to try it. Saving up $ for the 18 year. Great review. Keep it up guys!

    • @jskypercussion
      @jskypercussion 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely agree. You will love the 18 year. It blew my mind and well worth it. I must have all 4 of these in my collection. They are staples and wonderful to do all 4 in a row. I highly recommend to get the 18 and eventually the 21. 18 is a tad sweeter than the 21, but the 21 is even a tad darker than the 18. The 18 is already dark and rich with a good medium to strong finish. The 21 is a really strong finish. I find I like the 18 on the pallet a tad more than the 21, but the 21's superb finish I like a tad more than the 18. They are all worth owning and enjoying.

  • @losfp
    @losfp 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video guys! I love these as it gives you a better sense of comparison rather than a single review that concentrates on only a single whisky. Often I'll watch a review thinking "ok that sounds nice, but how does it compare to something that I already know?"
    I bought a sample of the 15 and loved it so I bought a bottle which is unopened for now. I'm hoping to pick up a bottle of the 21 before it "resets" to being a 21. The 18 is hard to find here in Australia though, and the few places that have it in stock have it only a few bucks cheaper than the 21 - and I'm assuming that's not really worth it. We will see.

    • @CuriosityPublic
      @CuriosityPublic  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers! Also be forewarned, they may be switching all or some of their lineup to lower proof chill filtered iterations!

    • @losfp
      @losfp 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CuriosityPublic Yeah that's why I want to grab at least the 21 this year before that happens (takes a while for stock to filter through to Australia so I have a bit of time)

    So would the 2019 GD 18 and 21 essentially be the same liquid?! I think one difference is that GD18 is 100% Oloroso whereas the GD21 is a mix of PX and Oloroso I believe, but otherwise they would both be 24/25 yo liquid... GD18 is clearly the “value” buy here.

    • @CuriosityPublic
      @CuriosityPublic  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good point about the PX and Oloroso casks. The 21 is also slightly higher proof. The pre 2020 18yr releases are the biggest value probably.

    GlenDronach 12 is on a complete different league above the GlenFarclas 12. Don't get me wrong, the Glenfarclas 12 is very drinkable... but it's basically a tongue warmer before you pour something as good as the GlenDronach 12.

    It's pretty funny to me when I'm at a bigger liquor store and you will see the Glendronach enthusiast. They will be looking at the 18 year to find the date and then do the math to see if they are getting the older juice. Well in my area unless you go to a small Mom n Pop store that has dusty Scotches you are going to find the newer juice Glendronachs.
