The Coal Authority has started work to restore Hag Wood as part of its nature recovery work

This year's theme, Sustaining All Life on Earth, resonates deeply with our mission. Join our dedicated sustainability professionals in exploring this magical site, a testament to nature's resilience and regeneration. Hag Wood features a unique natural mine water treatment scheme and is a hub of biodiversity.
Since acquiring the site, we've:
🔍 conducted extensive surveys to understand its ecosystem
🌲 identified it as a former ancient woodland site
🌲 harvested and sold the mature commercial conifer crop
🌿 planted new native broadleaves in conjunction with natural regeneration
In partnership with nature and our local communities, we're restoring Hag Wood to its former glory. Our efforts will ensure that the woodland will encourage a broader diversity of plants, fungi, insects and birds to thrive in the area and expand this important habitat.
