It's funny, but looking back, Disney had a number of stories like this. Lambert the Sheepish Lion. Morris the Midget Moose. Ferdinand the Bull. Little Toot. Even Dumbo, after a fashion. Stories of the oddballs and misfits who don't quite fit in and are teased or ostracized for it. But when the chips are down they rise the occasion and demonstrate a courage, tenacity, and special skill no one else can. The lesson being, of course, that you may be different but that doesn't mean you can't thrive and succeed in your own way.
And its a message anyone can learn from.

The biggest factor of its creation was the two wanting to do something by themselves so they could have total freedom over it, something they couldn't do as part of the Thomas and Friends team.

For many decades, almost everybody smoked in the movies and on TV, including on cartoons.
