I visited the South of France back in the mid 90's and you literally could smell Egoiste on almost all the well dressed, high society Frenchman. Beautiful, beautiful smell. Went back around 2014 and it was Bleu de Chanel that had taken over!
I wasn’t sure at first, took a few full wears but now it’s my daily. It has that sort of spicy carnation that lets you know it’s from 90’s but it wears so elegantly on my skin, developing throughout. And even when I can no longer smell it around 5:00, others can and seem to love it. It doesn’t resemble current trends in the least, any sweetness must be supplied by the wearers own skin. But if you’re into retro vibes and elegant perfumery that relies on floral notes contrasting with ebony wood, I’d give it a shot.
Definitely a complex fragrance right off the top...in the store I was excited to try it out but was a bit surprised at what I smelled. Very daring to me. Maybe it's because of my age, this fragrance came out only a year after I was born. I always give frags at least two chances however, so I will pick up a sample soon and try to wear it now that we're approaching colder months.

My favourite fragrance. Try to get a vintage bottle, with real sandalwood. Vintage Égoïste is just outstanding. Starts with some mandarin and coriander, but quickly it develops into a deep Rose and Cinnamon heart. After that the rose stays for some time but the sandalwood takes over. Extremely deep and pungent sandalwood with a little sweetness from the vanilla and that delicate touch from the damask rose. Just beautiful.
So true ... I found a vintage splash bottle which I cherish - and occasionally open just to experience the frag - which is smoother and sweeter than my other Egoiste bottles from posterior years and batches .
This cologne that is unlike any other... All the newer colognes are aquatic... They all smell the same.... Been buying cologne since I was like 13 yrs old...I am now a 44yr old executive with a graying beard, this works!! I don't recommend for anyone under 38 yrs of age... Great winter fragrance... Unique👍👍
I guess Egoiste’ is compared to YSL Opium when Egoiste’ takes the turn on its carnation phase- the jammy part of fragrance, mixed with lavender and the rose (blended in an indirect beautiful way) gets deeper….that jammy punch resembles a kind of huff proportion of the trail of Opium, I prefer the Egoiste. Great review, great fragrance. Watch Out The tall bottle has lots of fakes since 2008, although having the blast for 1 hour, it vanishes. Sometimes brands change their bottle design to combat counterfeiting
Was released as Bois Noir and later as Égoïste Cologne Concentreé. Bois des Iles is another sandalwood based fragrance from Chanel, but it’s womens fragrance and quite diferent from Égoïste.
@@belairscents i don't own the newest formulation of Égoiste, but i own several bottles of diferent vintage formulations and to me the only fragrance currently on the market to which i can sense some similarities is Guerlain's Santal Royal. Bois dês Iles to me is much closer to Guerlain Samsara EDP, since it's a lot more floral and aldehydic. But of course ymmv.
Your right Joy, this is a mature fragrance that takes a certain type of guy to wear . Certainly not for most of the younger crowd . . . This is one of my top fragrances for Autumn/Winter when all dressed up. Thanks for sharing . . .

I don't know if you heard about it, but the creator of this fragrance Jacques Polge has said it's his personal favorite creation.
For me, after three years in the hobby, this is my favorite, hands down

This was the first fragrance I bought. I think it had just come out, when I bought it. I get mostly the cinnamon vibe from it.
