For anyone with pain at the bottom of the patellar tendon (the bump under your knee), what solved it for me was 3 sets of 1 minute long wall-sits every day. Take 15 seconds of rest in between each set and after 3 days if it gets easier up the time to 1:10, 1:20, etc... The pain completely disappeared and if I ever feel it coming back I go back to this routine and it goes away.
@@smileyh3469 Yeah, whatever trick you are learning is putting strain on your tendon and it is getting inflamed. By doing wall sits you are strengthening the muscles on your upper leg and not pulling so much on the tendon.
These tips were fantastic. Thank you. Jumpers knee has been plaguing my skating the last couple weeks but after doing these exercises I was seeing immediate results.
@@gottiic6529 thx, recovery is indeed important and my knee is doing very well, showing good signs. So thats good and gonna be on top to so whatever I need to improve my health. Just can't wait too finally skate and feel confident again. Also hope your recovery is soon at a final and your healthy again.
Getting back into skating has motivated me to get serious about the shape I’m in. I know I’ll have so much more fun, if I can skate for more than 5 minutes at a time.
I have to keep a break from skating. I have bad hip pain, some knee pain. And ankle fcked up. I was riding switch for a while bc my other ankle. So i learned switch FS flips
i started doing some excersizes you and someone else suggested and instantly started experiencing lots of pops and release of pressure. my knee pain just began although the muscle tortion has been around a while. im confident i can make a recovery thanks to all these helpful videos
Working out legs really helped w this and like functional things w core I used to not be able to skate more then 2/3 times a week cause of some pain , lost a bunch of weight and now i can skate every day for hours if i had the time lol.
Im pretty sure I had a torn meniscus or something like that , knee pain so bad i couldnt even pedal or flick , took about a month but i just skated through it one day and stretched out my hamstrings a lot and now it feels way better , im 35 so im sure these things are more common at my age
@@edsoncharlotin8755 I use a foam roller on my quads and calves and I make sure to stretch my hamstrings now , whatever it was this helped a lot. I'm a pretty health minded person i eat good most of the time and have been working out consistently over 10 years now , i wonder if I may have been bad squat form over the years took a toll on my knees
@@edsoncharlotin8755 the thing Is it didn't affect me unless I squat down or do a lunge movement , I could still run and jump rope no problem. Just couldn't bend down or squat on it
Squats have been important for me getting back at it. 31 now and using pads like a kid to just have that psychological protection from falling. Also if you are older like me and feel tire just cruise don't try an ollie I'm just grateful i use sk8 hi vans other wise my ankle could've been the size of a ball by now after not committing and bailing last week. But it's a process hopefully by the end of the year I can land kickflips again
Hi, a non-skateboarder here. I don't do tricks, i just use my electric skateboard to get around town. I noticed that when I get off the board, I have this knee pain in my front leg. Searched everywhere but everyone is saying it's the impact from the tricks. Well, I don't do tricks. So the question is, does the front foot angle matter? Maybe it's that
This is perfect timing for me! Pigeon pose! I been running and skating so my left knee has been hurting on the side and everything you’re saying is on point. I plan on being active for decades to come
Two questions: 1) When should I do those calf and hop stretches: before or after skating, or both? 2) Do street/flat ground skaters generally have more knee problems than vert skaters? I wonder due to the shock and impact of landing ollies and jumps all the time
I could have used this video about a year and 2 months earlier than it came out, tho I do also need it right now lol so I guess it works out, thank you for the informative video brother.
Also have Jumpers Knee! Wall sit and flossing has kept me out from the pain 80% of the time, and progressing. Also sronger quads = less jumpers knee pain ✌️
Great video, im just 19 and have huge problems with my knees. I had physiotherapists that helped me but after a while things started hurting again. So now I'm training my legs every day and try to get as much knowledge as possible. Defenitely good tips, I really believe in the massage gun. I think this could be added into my routine. Also for great knee ability you should try walking backwards everyday! Or with a sledge to make it more intense, there is a guy called kneesovertoes on a lot of socials who goes further into this. Thanks for the video, I appriciate the idea that I'm not alone. Gotta skate :)
Keep going bro. With patellar tendinopathy especially, you have to keep strengthening your legs even after they've recovered. If you stop doing the exercises it will in most cases return even though it feels like it was fully healed. Good motivation for getting stronger legs to skate better:^)
Great video joe. I started applying a lot of these stretches before and after I skate as well. Another thing I use is called tiger balm it’s a pain relieving ointment. I’ll do all my stretches and roll out my legs then apply the tiger balm before I go skate and I will not feel any pain in my knees
Did you also mention the voodoo flossing in another video? That shit works like magic to loosen the muscles up around the knee/ankle prior to skating/exercise.
@@localjoe 100%. I was just surprised you didn't mention it as one of the tools to help. And your backwards running. Both have helped me quite a bit, but I agree. We have to fix the issue for the long term, rather than just alleviate the pain for the short term. Your suggestions in this video are definitely more geared toward long term fixes.
Great video idea man, helpful for sure. I've been trying to stretch better lately cause usually my ankles are pretty sore at the morning, especially the day after a session which included a lot of gaps,so if you can make more videos like this that would be sick
Local Joe "Im not a yoga person or anything" Me " mind blown that any person could bend that way" lol for real though great video, going to have to take your advice on this homie.
So I am going to doctor tommorow and if they prescribe me stuff and I have my first skate competition so I hope 🤞 that they could let me skate the rest of the week cause physical therapy and stretches

Wow, I have this pain after bmx riding, I was thinking about sell to my bike today, because this pain, I need to try it!
Fixing to start physical therapy on my knee. Had surgery a week ago. Hoping to be able to really strengthen my knee for the first time in years!
Glad u talk about this

I completely torn my acl and got surgery 2 months ago, waiting for recovery to come back to skate finally again 👍
Good luck i had acl and medial meniscus surgery im one year post op and still not there all the way i just turned 28 P.T is super important

All hip exercises help the knee. A strong hip stabilizes the knee.
My knees hurt just even watching this.
Great info for all us old and younger skaters. I need to be better at my knee health.
My thighs get sore AF after a good sesh. Thankfully no knee pain yet

Sorry to hear that but hope this helps!
Yo if it does help I’ll make a video about it and let you know. I love your videos btw dude!

Street skating is way harder on your knees. I’d try and do them before.
I really need this video at this moment.

Honestly those footprint gamechanger insoles completely eliminated my jumper's knee issues. And I'm an actual fat old guy, lol

Because you’re getting older.. and none of you do any strength and conditioning
Actually no its very common in skateboarders no matter the age 😊
