Is there anything you CAN'T do?! You, sir, are a jack-of-all-trades! Sorry that this is so late; I only discovered your wonderful channel a few months ago, and I've been binge-watching ever since. Cheers from Canada!
Your lamp looks terrific! I was sceptical but I should have known better. Your creativity knows no bounds. Thanks for just mudlarking - no preaching about climate change, or politics or the state of the world - just pure escapism in mudlarking❤ Your channel is the BEST!!!
Hi Si 👋 awesome upcycle. The underground mud with lots of treasures and the earthworm is the cherry 🍒 on the top , and it took all attention With love from SAM Guwahati, Assam, India 🇮🇳 ♥️
I had a whirligig as a toddler in the 60s, it was my favourite thing ever and I could play with it for hours. `It mysteriously disappeared one day and none of the adults in the family had any idea what happened to it...
Si, what a great adventure you guys had. You certainly had luck in the muck with the 1746 George II and the pewter mug. I cannot even give enough compliments for the upcycle detector lamp. It is amazing, creative, educational and adorable with the added little cheeky worm. What a splendid video. Thanks for brightening this Sunday morning!
In the mid 1950's , when we were children ., Our Dad, (Born 1905) showed us how to make those whirly toys, with large buttons . Brought back some fond memories.
Oh goodness...I never ever would have come up with that idea for up cycling a metal detector! It's absolutely very clever, love the cheeky worm : ) Best lamp ever!!!
I am 70 year old male and regarding the whirling you found .as a child we used to play with a plastic version bought or found in a 3 penny lucky bags. It would give us hours of fun and we also referred to them as cheese cutters.thanks for the memories. James in Liverpool
As children we used to get the waxy cardboard out of the coffee jars, decorate them and make our own. The decorations would make patterns when spun. Good fun!
I’m so happy that you found your tankered. You can always tell when treasure hunters. Find something that’s on their list because he gets so excited I got out of this world excited and that’s what you showed. The lamp that you made at the end was so crazy good!! Until the next video, take care!!☺️🐬
Thank you for demonstrating the whirligig, I have never seen one before, and it is very cool! Congratulations on the George II coin, it is wonderful. The mug is fantastic!
Very exciting finds there Si! The history and research on those tiny bag seals and coins is always fascinating. .and that Mug!!! Congrats on that! A very happy, safe and healthy holiday to you, your friends and family(and cats) Cheers!!!
What a fantastic find and lamp. So jealous of you guys having so much old stuff. It's true we have a gold here in Australia but you have amazing history. Merry Christmas to you and all the good people around the world 😊
My Dad used to make whirligigs for us, out of Kraft Dairylea cheese boxes. We played with them for ages. I've made them for my great grandchildren, from Laughing Cow boxes, and the children were completely unimpressed, lol. How the World has changed over 75 years.
The spinning string button brought memories of dad’s U S Navy service. He gave me a large button from his pea jacket to make the same toy over60 years ago, loved that hum!
@@Sifinds your very welcome , I’ve loved mudlarking since I was a child going with my dad , your videos are so inspiring, bringing history back with each find 👍
When heating pewter you have to heat it slowly to allow it to soften all the way through. It split because you heated it too fast and the heat had not penetrated fully. Try a heat gun or place it in boiling water to do a gradual heating.
not long found your channal love it ! and all the history that you find out about it ,pure passion you have for this.did detecting a battle site for 17 years and know when you find a great find, cant beat this feeling.keep it up.cheers
#shared as one of my favourites. Your thrill of finding something you’ve been looking for, for a long time really comes through & what a beauty it is. Plus I always love your upcycles, you’re a very talented artist.
Simon that is the most innovative lamp I have ever seen! I just love your imagination when you create things. The base of the lamp is my favorite. It looks so real. Congratulations 🎈.
Thanks for a childhood reminder we made whirly gigs out of a large button and string at my mamaw's house. I am now 73 years old! she goes back to Welsh ancestry! She was my first love!
Whirligigs are definitely addictive. 70 years ago in Oregon I made mine from mother’s big coat buttons. Played with it for hours. I make tgem now for the children at Renaissance Festivals.
Marvelous Mug and Gorgeous George! Lovely lamp King of Craftyness! 😊👍 You've found so many wonderful things, top 10 for every catagory, every year. The mug should be in the all time list, along with the roman pot❤
The whirlee gig was fun. My mother showed me how to do that with the big coat buttons there used to be, that and the cat's cradle done with string. Simple home made entertainment.
I LOVE all the research you did on the tankard you found! It definitely is one of the heart-skipping-a-beat moments! Another amazing video!!! Thanks for cheering me up again!!! 😍😘🥰
Awesome adventure today, Si! Thanks for taking us along and for your time that goes into making them. You're quite talented. Its so neat to see what you make from some of your treasures.
The lead whirligig toy is lovely. My sister and I made them using a very large button. We knew the toy to be called a “buzz saw” because of the sound. We’d get them spinning so fast the string would break! Thanks for bringing back the memory. Merry Christmas!
What a fabulous mudlark! I think the pot is a new favourite find of yours for me, coming close to the caudle cup, which I find fascinating. An ingenious upcycle of the detector, especially the base. Great 'episode 'Si, thank you.
That 1476 coin and pewter mug were absolute corker finds! And you did an incredible job with lamp. Very clever. Nice to see the fur babies too. Cheers Si xx Teresa 🇦🇺♥
Woot! Thank you for sharing your Mud 'ventures with us. I admit I had no idea where you were going with the up-cycled lamp. Duh, Leesa! I was watching so intently...congratulations on your mug find. I didn't know Fleet was a river, every video I learn something new.

What a find (the pot) and the rest of the gear found by the pair of youse! A fine bit o' research m'lad! You and your immediate mudlarking crew, are making many well presented, edited, and consistently absorbing films. I've been told to watch the film where you receive/were given, an electric bike of immense quality, a true measure of your ever-increasing popularitydue to the skills you've honed, and of course, the way in which you edit & present the finished article. Enough smoke-blowing from me, but taverymuchlike for another year of fab. work. Happy New Year Simon!
I remember whirly-gig toys when i was little, though not lead !! I'm not that ancient 😊 .. made of plastic (of course) - its mad isnt it that such a simple toy could survive for so long... and how far back in history were kids playing with them (and adults 😉) The pewter mug .. wow !! So happy for you and for us to be there with you, along for the lark !! Find of a lifetime. So cool ! Seems to me mother Thames was rewarding you for your generosity last week. You so deserve it 🌠💥🌟🌞
Cheers Zeenat! Yes it would be nice to believe in Karma, however I found this before the beach meet up, so maybe I was thanking the Thames in a backward way 😊
