This beautiful anthem brings me to tears every time i think of how some of the areas being blessed here now fall in Pakistan. And the irony of it all for those Indians who hate Pakistan and Pakistanis who disown their Indian heritage. Surely there is a lesson in there on no matter how seemingly limitless the fires of hatred and xenophobia in some hearts, the message of unity and peaceful coexistence is much more enduring. But Ananda Samarakoon was an established poet and songwriter himself in Sri Lanka when his song was chosen to be the national anthem (The government held a competition and asked to send in patriotic songs to consider for the NA).
