500 billion high speed rail orders, why did Britain choose Japan instead of China?

  • In 2020, the British High Speed 2 is planned to be constructed, and China is one of its qualified partners. Once the cooperation with the UK is reached, it will bring China 56 billion pounds of high-speed rail orders. However, in 2021, the British side suddenly announced that a Japanese company would be responsible for the project. How is this going? Is China's high-speed rail technology inferior to Japan's? In fact, China has made a lot of efforts to win this order.
China's state railway company said it could build the line in just five years and at a much lower cost, according to a letter seen by Building magazine. The CRCC letter, also been seen by the Financial Times, states: "We are certain that we can offer a cost that is significantly lower than the projections we have seen." "The advantages are, in our opinion, too great to dismiss on the basis that there are obstacles to overcome." "You will find that the Chinese way is to seek solutions, not linger on obstacles and difficulties."
However, on Dec. 9 2021, a joint venture between Hitachi, Ltd. and Alstom SA of France has won a £1.97 billion (about ¥300 billion) contract to supply next-generation high-speed trains for Britain's High Speed Two (HS2) railway line project. The companies announced that the venture will design, build and maintain 54 trains for the HS2 project, which will initially link London and England's Midlands region. They will 'deliver Europe's fastest operational train, capable of operating at maximum speeds of 360 kilometers per hour,' according to the Alstom website. So, as for China, which has such a sincere attitude and a world-leading high-speed rail technology, why did the UK reject it?
OK, in today’s video, let’s dive deep into this issue.

@@عبدالرحمنالخليفة-ذ3ل Since you mentioned history, share a point with you.
Historically speaking, the current is the second time China has exported luxury goods. For the first time, China exported porcelain, silk, and tea that only Western kings and queens could afford.
Generally speaking, there are two ways for humans to help each other.
First is with words, the words of the truth of Jesus or universal values, such as Christianity, democracy, and human rights, etc., which Christians are best at and spread worldwide. In this way, we need someone in control, even bombs, to involve the truth and values, which you have yours and I have mine, etc.
The second is with the material. Without truth, the Chinese have been spreading material stuff since the silk, china, tea, etc., on the ancient Silk Road to today’s made in China on one belt and one road. In this way, we need no one in control, for humans know what material they want, no involvement of the truth and values, you keep yours, and I keep mine, etc. So, bombs are unnecessary. The ancient Silk Road was generally peaceful; at least no world wars, let alone two WWs.

As an Indonesian, I just wanna say... that the Brits really missed out by choosing Japan over China. When it comes to HSR, China is better at everything, China's more commited, they need lower cost, and not to mention more willing to do a TOT for the HSR, Japan is terrible compared to that. If they need proof, just compare the HSR project in Indonesia (which was backed by China) and India (which was backed by Japan).
Given the current circumstances that the UK's economy is still weaker compared to Indonesia or India, I think this puts them in a harder position and raise the stake for the HSR project higher than before. They need to choose the country with proven competency, they need to choose China imo and screw the US' geopolitical standing if it doesn't align with the UK's national interest.

It would be unrealistic to expect China to win all HSR contracts even if it is the best value for money. UK in particular has been operating an anti-China policy following the American's line so it would never give any contract to China on HSR or nuclear power construction after banning Huawei. It is UK's own way to construct one of the most expensive HSR.
One aspect of HS2 stands out pretty odd. If the rolling stock, with 54 trains plus a maintenance period of 12 years, awarded to Hitachi and Alstom consortium was less then £2 billion then the remainder of the rumoured £200 billion would just be the civil engineering cost?

The title of this video is totally misleading and misses the mark completely and so are your comments, ignorance is indeed bliss. The HS2 project is one of the largest rail engineering projects ever undertaken by the UK but it's nothing new nor unique. Ever heard of HS1 or the Eurostar? In case you haven't it was Britain's first high speed rail link to mainland Europe built nearly 30 years ago now by Britain and France and was in fact more of a challenge to construct than the current HS2 project since it also involved tunnelling almost 50km under the sea as well and the Channel tunnel is still the world's longest undersea railway tunnel! Japan is NOT constructing the whole HS2 rail project but is only responsible for building the trains along with the French company Alstom in a joint venture with Hitachi trains, which incidentally has been successfully manufacturing trains in the UK now for over a decade. The tunnels will be built by the Swedish firm Skanska while the bulk of the tracks and rail infrastructure will be built by a consortium of British firms comprising Balfour Beatty,Carillion and Costain.I have no doubt whatsoever that HS2 will be successfully completed just like Britain's other rail project. In case you have any doubts just look at the recently completed Elizabeth line linking London to the surburbs. It was Europe's largest construction project at the time and was technically one of the most challenging engineering projects ever undertaken since it also involves tunnelling in between existing Tube lines in Central London as well as constructing new stations in the middle of a busy city while trying to ensure minimal disruption! In a nutshell you couldn't have a better trio of countries to construct a high speed rail network: Britain, the inventor of the steam engine and the modern railway system,Japan, the inventor of high speed trains and France, the pioneer of European high speed trains and network. So,in summary in case you haven't already guessed, Britain is NOT India or Vietnam!🤣😂

UK funny. As an Indian, keeping politics aside, this is gonna be further disaster. More expensive and time consuming plus Japan does not have the standard technology at present when it comes to China. UK economic crisis will get worse but their King, prince etc in royal family will enjoy luxury lives and their PM as we know will do only talking and to worship US.

Japan actually offered a loan of $ 13 billion to India 🇮🇳 with an interest rate of 0.1% to be paid over the next 100 years after the railway line becomes operational. That's too good a deal to reject. The delay in the construction is not a fault of japan, Japanese companies are hardly involved in the construftion. It has to do with indian bureaucracy.
