Thanks for the review. You ran the dehydrator for how long in total? About 7 hours or so? How much would that cost in regards to your electricity usage?
The max power 350watt is stated on the front of the box, the current uk average electricity tariff is £0.34 per kWh, So times 350 by 0.034 = 11.9 so works out at just under 12 pence every hour 12x7=84p
This exact same dehydrator hit the Aldi supermarkets in Belgium last week and I didn’t hesitate for a single second as I’ve been wanting to have a dehydrator for a long time now. I hadn’t seen this video yet. My Teen Queen has a definite preference for savoury snacks rather than sweet ones and my SO has been pining for beef jerky ever since we went on vacation to the States before the pandemic. I’m a home brewer and one of the things I can barely find are dried fruit that haven’t been treated with sulphites, sorbates or oils, all of which interfere with fermentation but for some wines and meads you need the dried fruit to add body to your brew. I’m chuffed to bits for the possibilities that are now open to me. A little trick a friend whispered in my ear: some food items will drip and you might not relish the idea of having to clean the bottom of your dehydrator. Adding a piece of parchment paper on the bottom tray solves that problem. Just cut a hole in the middle to allow for the vent (don’t put it in the bottom of your machine, put it on the bottom tray). If you’re not using all your trays, keep that bottom one empty with just the paper on it. No need to clean your machine, just the trays. 😊 I tried this with halved cherry tomatoes, seeds left in. Best ever sun-dried tomatoes I’ve ever tasted although I inly got a few myself. The rest were inhaled by the Teen Queen herself. Moving on to jerky now… and perhaps pepperoni slices and salami slices. I’m told bacon jerky is wonderful too, but you need to blot the slices every hour after 4 hours and blot them again once dry (total time should be around 8-9 hours). Once I’m through those it’ll be halved grapes as a raisin substitute for home brewing.
Wow you have really put yours to the test, great job. We’ve had a go at some fruits and they’ve worked out well. We love making jerky and salmon is great for a delicious change. Thanks for the tips 😊
@@Mandyglen - It’s been running a lot these past few days, that’s for sure! I’m not planning on having it go at that pace forever but it certainly will see good use. I have a particular hatred for food waste and most of the time it’s just my Teen Queen and me. Most packaged foods are geared towards families of 4 or more, or are single portions that are more expensive. Freezer space is limited so dehydrating surplus makes sense… and delicious snacks that otherwise might cost a fortune. I love making things myself, especially if they don’t require a lot of handling. That’s why I love my Instant Pot, my Kamado BBQ which doubles up as a smoker, and why I make fruit wines, meads and ciders. A dehydrator completes the picture. On days that I’m working from home I can use my gadgets while poring over spreadsheets and orders. On days that I’m at the office the Instant Pot can work solo.
We are making use of our time saving appliances more and more especially give the rising costs of produce here. We make batch portions to freeze and with 2 young kids, who are growing quickly and have very healthy appetites, we are utilising the energy efficient gadgets too.
@@Mandyglen - As a single mother I know about kids’ appetites, rising energy and produce cost, and the need to save time. Being creative is essential is ‘t it? Pressure Cooker Lurker Stew (anything still lurking in the fridge before the new week’s shop) Naming soup by its colour instead of by main ingredient: red soup, green soup, yellow soup, brown soup, white soup… if it’s got the right colour and is on sale/needs using up, in the soup it goes. Must-go casserole (leftovers dumped together, covered with a layer of mash and/or cheese and breadcrumbs, baked in the oven) Freezer Feast (eghad, the label came off the freezer bag) … etc. As you’re making good use of the freezer and have reviewed Aldi’s electronic pressure cooker which I’m assuming is something similar to an Instant Pot, I recommend you look up instant pot freezer meals, or try to get your hands on the cook ook “from freezer to Instant Pot”. I’m at that stage now that I confidently dump stuff in the pot either to defrost and heat, or to cook from frozen. Great culinary apparitions and feats are for my days off. Office days mean everyone gets home famished and simultaneously wants a shower… and then a plate of hot, comforting food. Stat. Affordable and time-saving appliances can make the difference between a satisfied sigh and a nervous breakdown on those nights.
Your having an Ambiano overload 🤔😜 I must admit I do get addicted to beef Jerky 🤭 Hope this week has started well for you all, stay safe & Take Care ❤️😍xx
Thanks for sharing and for visiting my channel.. Returning Support with Full View and Like.. Hope you have good weekend.. I do enjoy Jerky but it's so expensive.. I'd like to give this a try..
Great videos by the way 👍 very informative! I've been thinking of getting on of these, love Aldi's products. Is there any heat generated by this, or is it more of just an airflow? Also, would love to see how the salmon jerky comes out 😀
Got mine yesterday and yes not Meat 🥩 listed or recipes, Watched your Video thank you Can you send me you Jerk Recipes please, Also please let us know how long you ended up doing it for x
Hi, this is great for jerky. My husband made the marinade without following a recipe. It was soy, garlic, chilli, peppercorns and brown sugar. We left the meat in the marinade for 24 hours. The thicker pieces took about 14 hours altogether but the thinner pieces were about 8. It’s easier if all a similar size. Hope this helps. Thanks for stopping by 😊
@@Mandyglen Thank You Done some Lambs Liver today - For the Dogs lll 70c for 6 hours but stopped it after 5 hours they loved it Ok have seen a couple of Videos with people putting a Non Stick Liner in their Dehydrate Which might have a go next time Also I got the Food Vacuum so going to play with that tomorrow x
Great review guys and a great piece of kit, as packets of beef jerky are a fortune for a tiny bag. Looks mega tasty!
This looks like a nice dehydrator! I use to love making dried pineapples, apples with cinnamon and other fruits.

It’s a shame that more people don’t take this approach and there would be a lot less waste and people would soon see the savings they make 😊
