You have inspired me to start making my own bait after a couple years of not being motivated. Living in the USA there is no where near as many options to buy good bait. Stuff from main brands that the few carp stores do sell tends to be past its best. Home rolled is best 😊
Thank you for the kind words. I'm sure you'll enjoy making your own bait once you source the ingredients. It can be quite addictive when the captures start coming. Tight lines Steve
I love your bait making setup pal very well put together those boilies looked spot on i like making my own hookbaits just very small batches i cook them in a rice steamer and roll them in a mix of fishmeals liver powder and GLM while they are still warm to kinda coat them cheers pal tightlines
Hi pal. Yea I got to the stage where rolling boilies was such a hassle, even doing a couple of a kilo was getting to the point where I didn't enjoy it. This is when I decided to make it a bit easier by getting the mixer, extruder etc. I then started to enjoy making boilies again. Steaming is the way pal 👌🏻 Thanks for the kind feedback. Tight lines Steve
Thanks for the demo, i bet all that kit cost a bit, worth it though over the years😊 i fished cofton in dawlish and chap had made his own mulberry boiles and if im honest he caught more than me on shop bought ones.
Hi John. The kit cost around the £1200 mark, it paid for itself after selling bait for a while. I'm reluctant to let it go as it saves me a lot of time and effort. I love making my own bait as I know exactly what goes into it, I'm also reluctant to pay upwards of £11 per kilo for a good bait, think it would be painful to be honest 😅 Cofton is a great little venue, used to go there quite a lot when my kids were younger. Tight lines pal Steve
Just found found yiur channel....love these bait vidoes.....new to boilie making......how do you work out how much liquid egg you need per kg of mix? Cheers
Hi mate. It usually works out at 1x medium egg per 100g of dry mix. 700g of dry mix with 7-8 eggs will give you around 1kg of finished boilies. Hope this helps. Steve
@BivvyLife thanks steve.....fed up of paying tackle shop prices for bait you have no clue what is in them and shelf life baits that rott on the bottom of the lake
Not knowing or trusting what was in off the shelf big boilie brands was probably the main reason I researched making my own, the secondary thing was the price point of the big brands. All the best Steve
Hi mate. I'm not really a fan of using shelf life, as such I've not researched safe preservatives. If I find a suitable ingredient to preserve the bait I'll do a video.
Cheers pal, as far as consistency goes they seem to have turned out well. The ingredients add up to a great boilie but time will tell. Tight lines Steve
Great video, thanks fkr sharing. I find it hard work on my hands now caulking theix out. Where did you get the extruder from if you don't mind me asking?
Thanks pal. Contact Geoff on the following email: nighthawk.1947@talktalk.net He stopped manufacturing them for a while due to ill health but I think he's due to start up again soon.
Hi I love the video 😊 I’m doing my own Boilie making is it right that semolina and soya are the main binders in a base mix there’s not much videos on here how to make a good basic home Boilie i’ve been trying all different ways sometimes they’re too sticky or I’ve dried out too quick.
I'd imagine there are a lot of bait companies using semolina and soy flour as the main binder albeit fairly discreetly as there's a stigma associated with it as they're seen as cheap filler- bulking ingredients. Used in moderation I don't see anything wrong with the practice. Like most things in life, it's all about moderation. Tight lines Steve
I'm new to this. I'm finding anything with soya/semolina smells the same when I break one open. Is this the case with all 'basic' 50/50 mixes? If I don't want to make a fishy bait (wife proof), what would you use to replace those ingredients?
When you say basic 50-50 mixes I'm assuming you're referencing unflavoured in which case yes most will smell similar as they're farinaceous so highly starchy and mealy. If you want a basic natural bait you could replace the fishmeal with ground seed and powdered milk. Try Nectarblend or ptx from quality baits near Birmingham. Also a 50-50 could be made up of alternatives such as maize flour and clo. Hope this helps Tight lines Steve
No pal I've deliberately kept this mix very basic for experimental purposes over this coming season but yes that would be a great addition to the mix although fairly expensive if any beneficial quantity is added. Tight lines Steve
I'm not sure of the latest cost as the ingredients have increased significantly recently. The last time I priced a similar bait it was £4.25 per kilo. A rough guesstimate this latest batch would be closer to £5.50 per kilo.
Hi mate. It's a good point and there are people that still use that method, I tried it for a few years but didn't find it helped at all. Thanks for commenting. Tight lines Steve
@@BivvyLife : Think you’re right ….it doesn’t catch more fish but I think it is a source of calcium and minerals which is probably beneficial to the fishes’ health so you wouldn’t notice an increase in catch rate. Also I think it possibly is an aid to digestion ( think birds…..they consume grit for digestion). Thanks for your reply and tight lines. 🎣
Wow, big batch 4r testing purposes kidda.. Make sure all that fishmeal doesn't go to waste 😂 some might say it already has, & that ur rolling kit saved ur ass. 😮

I've only managed to do the one but planning on getting out very soon to do more. th-cam.com/video/MpCed9eQMC8/w-d-xo.html

What mixer is that please ?
It's the Firmar 25 litre dough mixer.
Why not put the eggshells in…..you could liquidise them first ??
