I have a disability myself and personally it bums me out. In one of my old jobs I got treated unfairly and was reported just because of it, which has made it hard to accept for who I am just because I have a disability. One thing I can't stand about having a disability is being treated like a misfit towards other normal people!

But sometimes it just takes time and patience. Also group homes are not always ideal. I’ve heard that some of them do not treat the people right.

I don't think that down syndrome is a disability. I have an uncle with down syndrome and he's perfectly capable like anyone else. He only has some trouble speaking, but not enough to make a conversation impossible.

Brayden, I felt, was just an innocent bystander in the situation. Gwen should have taken Karter privately and told him in a nicer way how she felt. But Karter should have told her before the date that he had a disabled brother that lives with him. Brayden seemed like he was efficient enough to stay home for a few hours by himself. To be honest, if I were her I would feel the same way. Not in a way that's cruel to her brother (obviously) but if I was going on a date with my boyfriend I wouldn't want his brother coming, even if it wasn't a date I would rather go places without him because I'm in a relationship with HIM not both of them.

My dad is a special needs teacher and seeing people with a disability being treated this way hits close to home since I know a lot of those kids very well.

There was so many tears shed through this video because it was extremely hard for me to watch. The way Gwen treated Brayden was extremely hard to watch. I have two brothers, older and younger and I grew up the disabled sibling. I have a developmental disability along with a developmental delay. I am so grateful that I grew up. I was just my brother sister. I am closer in age to my younger brother and I am extremely fortunate that his friends excepted me for who I am and not for my disability. I am extremely grateful that my older brothers girlfriends now his wife excepted me for who I am and not for my disability. Because I know much like this video, there are people out there who have disabled siblings, who are not excepted by their friends and or significant others. I am so glad the ending of the video turned out the way it did.

This hits close to home. I am disabled and handicapped. Luckily, my sister’s husband is the sweetest person ever he treats me like family and he treats his wife like a queen and yeah, he treats me good as well. He’s the best father ever seen and the best husband to my sister and he doesn’t mind if I tagalong whenever they want to go somewhere

There is some brain damage because of my Cerebral Palsy, and I am also on the autism spectrum, but I know how to read and write, I have some mental quirks, due to being on the autism spectrum. But, other than that I live a pretty normal life. I just have to use a wheelchair to get around instead of walking.
i’m actually siding with the girl. i get that karter’s brother can’t help it and has a disability but she was never told that his brother would be tagging along or has a disability that may cause him to act out or make a scene sometimes. she can’t just be expected to accept her boyfriends brother as a literal part of their relationship without any notice. she probably wouldn’t have minded his brother that much if he didn’t have to tag along on dates and be a part of their relationship. you can’t even blame her for breaking up with him - she had never met his brother before, yet he came on their date, her “friend” was under the impression that they were dating (so it was misleading), and he caused a scene at the restaurant. yes, he can’t help it, and i honestly feel bad for him, but the people at the restaurant are entitled to having a peaceful dinner without being disturbed by other people. the boyfriend knew that this may happen but still insisted on his brother coming, especially to a fancy restaurant. it’s honestly embarrassing to be at a fancy restaurant, having someone you’re with causing a scene and disturbing the other people, they probably would have gotten kicked out. neither the girl or the brother are at fault here - the boyfriend is. you can’t just expect anyone to put up with being third wheeled on dates and them causing a scene. she put up with this anyways for most of the time. the boyfriend had no right to say “you think every guy you meets gonna treat you this way?” (something like that) because i would honestly hope not.

It’s not a shame for having siblings that has Down syndrome . One of my childhood friends has a older brother that has Down syndrome and he is a smart guy .
people with disabilities shouldn't be treated differently just because they behave differently, they're just as normal of a human as others are. everyone has their own way of behaving, communicating, learning, and understanding, that's what makes us human.

Such a sweet ending. It warms my heart. I'm 53 and my brother who has down syndrome is 48. When our mom passed 3 years ago I became his guardian. I wouldn't change it for anything.
I'll preface this by saying no one should treat anyone badly for being disabled. With that said if I was with someone who brought along his brother on our date unannounced and didn't tell me upfront that I would be expected to live with his brother, I would end that relationship

For the people saying that he shouldn’t have brought his brother completely missed the fact that he’s also his CAREGIVER. People with down syndrome NEED a caregiver. If my boyfriend/girlfriend brought a family member, let alone a disabled one, unannounced, I would be mildly upset in the beginning, but I wouldn’t take it out on them and I would actually be appreciative that my partner would trust me enough to allow his family members to be around me. I would just accept it and be happy, because the boyfriend/girlfriend is a good person themselves and I would get to observe how they treat the family member. If they treat them good, then I can imagine how good they’ll treat me.
He should have told her beforehand. That is the point people are making. Ableism is not okay, obviously, but I would be at least somewhat upset and uncomfortable considering this is an important part of his life, but he didn't even introduce them.

There was so many tears shed through this video because it was extremely hard for me to watch. The way Gwen treated Brayden was extremely hard to watch. I have two brothers, older and younger and I grew up the disabled sibling. I have a developmental disability along with a developmental delay. I am so grateful that I grew up. I was just my brother sister. I am closer in age to my younger brother and I am extremely fortunate that his friends excepted me for who I am and not for my disability. I am extremely grateful that my older brothers girlfriends now his wife excepted me for who I am and not for my disability. Because I know much like this video, there are people out there who have disabled siblings, who are not excepted by their friends and or significant others. I am so glad the ending of the video turned out the way it did.

Luckily, my sister’s husband is the sweetest person ever he treats me like family and he treats his wife like a queen and yeah, he treats me good as well. There is some brain damage because of my Cerebral Palsy, and I am also on the autism spectrum, but I know how to read and write, I have some mental quirks, due to being on the autism spectrum. But, other than that I live a pretty normal life. I just have to use a wheelchair to get around instead of walking.

He can't expect others to put up with his brother if he acts like that; and he especially can't expect any girl to want to be with him if his brother is always going to tag along. People in a restaurant have the right no to have to sit through someone making a scene through an entire meal; and nobody should be expected to live with or always be around someone who is going to be problematic. Yes! I thought the same thing! Obviously it's not his fault he is disabled and needs help but he could've told her because it would make things kind of awkward.

It’s not so much of what you say it’s how you say it but in this case it was all of the above for her the performance she gave was disgusting and says a lot about her character.

I'll preface this by saying no one should treat anyone badly for being disabled.
With that said if I was with someone who brought along his brother on our date unannounced and didn't tell me upfront that I would be expected to live with his brother, I would end that relationship

For the people saying that he shouldn’t have brought his brother completely missed the fact that he’s also his CAREGIVER. People with down syndrome NEED a caregiver. If my boyfriend/girlfriend brought a family member, let alone a disabled one, unannounced, I would be mildly upset in the beginning, but I wouldn’t take it out on them and I would actually be appreciative that my partner would trust me enough to allow his family members to be around me. I would just accept it and be happy, because the boyfriend/girlfriend is a good person themselves and I would get to observe how they treat the family member. If they treat them good, then I can imagine how good they’ll treat me.
He should have told her beforehand. That is the point people are making. Ableism is not okay, obviously, but I would be at least somewhat upset and uncomfortable considering this is an important part of his life, but he didn't even introduce them.
