Hes ripped from a time in his life where he has not had the realisation that villiany is his fate (according to the ya novel loki where mischief lies that happens as a teen) and he makes a comment that whenever a loki tries to betterr himself he ends up at the tva. He knows what his fate should of been. Im guessing maybe his thor murder was an accident or a prank gone wrong, at this age he was more compelled to turning his brothers wine to slugs.
In the first season, we were never sure if Loki decided to be loyal for once or if he would turn his back to his new found friends the moment he saw a better opportunity. I think seeing an older version of himself who regretted everything he did and a younger version who ultimately succeeded in something he tried before getting kidnapped by the TVA and seeing all the regret made him change for good.
