I used to meet my grandparents at Underwoods where they would eat rolls, cobbler, and drink coffee. After my grandmother died, I would stop and pick up rolls and cobbler for my grandpa. Now when we go, it's because of the nostalgia of Underwoods.
As a previous employee of underwood’s the place is nasty, black mold in the fridge, raw meat stored next to cooked, sewage backing up into the drink station, and white walls stained black in the kitchen. Leo yells at all of his employees for any minor mistake and Paul plays off as a good boss but if you have an injury you’ll be told not to mope around. They play off the nostalgia and I have no idea how they pass a health department check.
Wow, we want to move to Texas so bad! We recently saw a place for sale by the lake we'd love to live in... came to check out what Chet amd the crew had to say about Brownwood... i can definitely see this would be a great town for my husband and I! The challenge is theres so many great towns, things to do, good property, etc... how does one choose! Dear Lord, show us the town You want us to move to, to contribute to, and be a part of a great community, amen!❤❤
Hey Chet..we know your cousin Ruth & her husband Bill when they lived in Irving..love the show.. I remember going to Underwoods in Amarillo on the way to Glorieta NM & loved it.
If you didn't go to Smitty's BBQ you missed it. Best BBQ in Central Texas. I haven't lived in Brownwood for over 20 years and I still get cravings. 708 Austin Ave, Brownwood, TX 76801
This was a great episode. My grandmother lived in Brownwood/Early through my childhood until she died in 2020. So many beautiful memories of this city, its buildings, and its people. I live in Arlington, and had no idea there used to be an Underwoods BBQ where Bodacious sits now right by the ballpark on Division St! I love how life comes around full circle and I learn things about my own city and childhood from shows like this!
My grandfather was an aerial photographer after flying in the air force. He and my grandmother were staying at the stone little houses at the state park aerial photographing Brownwood Texas when I was born in Midland in Sept. of 1955. My first travel trip was to the state park for my grandparents to meet me (I am told) as a one month old baby. I am now living on the lake, retired, 60 years after visiting.
There was an Underwoods near where I grew up that we went to when I was a kid. It made my day when I saw the Underwoods when driving through Brownwood and my wife and I stopped in for lunch. It was exactly as I remembered from my childhood.
I have been to Brownwood training at Camp Bowie and two of my favorite places to eat at were Steves' Market & Deli which at the time was only open three days a week. The Turtle was the other one I would eat at while I was there. If you go back there you should check them out.
Nice video as always @The Daytripper! / Chet and crew! Will have to check out that newer Restaurant some time. We live in the general area! Dallas / Fort Worth is North Central Texas. This is the norther part of Central Texas. Ahem, I think that would describe it well.
Underwoods is not BBQ, not a stick of wood used. Also, they removed or changed everything that had saturated fat, so it tastes like a nursing home cafetiere. Even the rolls have changed.
Ok Chet, why did you not go down Thrill Hill? I lived in Brownwood about 35 years ago and loved but dreaded going down Thrill Hill. Maybe it's not there anymore? I haven't been back since I left. If it is still there, you gotta get some reel going down it. Thanks for going to Brownwood, it's really grown. Blessings on your travels. Thanks for showing us Texas!
Well this was obviously filmed a while back. You drove by Studdabakers and that's when I realized it. They are now, sadly closed. You should come up with newer stuff.
Hey, this is a great video. I would love to create videos like this myself you’ve inspired me and it was a pleasure to watch this video. God bless y’all.🎉🎉🎉🎉

@sassybonnets1704 0 seconds ago I enjoyed this! Glad you highlighted old and new restaurants in Brownwood. Hi, Tammy & Christian! I can’t wait to dine at your new restaurant some time when visiting my relatives in BW. It looks & sounds amazing! Susie H
Just went to Underwood's in Brownwood to get some rolls. Well, I remember the first time I ate rolls there back in 2014. They were great. You could smell them as you drove into town. This time it was different. Hate to say it, but the rolls aren't what they used to be. What a wasted trip.
I worked for a bakery we put bread machines in the underwood’s in Dallas area ihelped open the restaurant on Hampton at in Dallas i stayed in kitchen with Jim his wife did more work than both of us together I’m 93 years old if I can get some one to take me I would like to talk to you about some of the stories Jim told me I live in Duncanville
So I hate to tell you and everyone that now thinks this is a cool place to go; ABSOLUTELY WRONG!!!! This town is s plum full of drugs and alcohol. I’m t sure how you got everything set up to make it look and seen so great.
Every town has its issues. Granbury is advertised as a pristine tourist town but underneath they have always had a meth problem and for a long time were in the top 10 most produced labs in the State. Every town has their issues. There are a lot of great people in Brownwood and the town is going through a great revitalization. There is a strong community support system there. You should look into Breckenridge since you moved there.
Is Brownwood hurting so badly for money from residents and tourists that it has become necessary to expose this wonderful little town to a world of people who could change everything you love about it into something that becomes impossible to deal with? Just think beyond the present to less than ten years from now and question what you see if these videos continue.
Thank you for that intelligent and informative comment. You are obviously a person used to the finer things in life. Heck, I bet you even took the wheels off your double-wide!

Aww that was sweet and those our memories to treasure
Nice!!!
We love Brownwood!!! We have land in Coleman, so we go a lot! Love Underwoods!!💕

I haven't been to Brownwood in over 50 years but I'll sure make a trip now.
It's West Central Texas.
This little town is my past through town when I’m on my way to Colorado

Can’t go wrong in BE. My parents have a ranch close by, and I’ve called Brownwood my second home for 66 years!
Hey Chet..we know your cousin Ruth & her husband Bill when they lived in Irving..love the show.. I remember going to Underwoods in Amarillo on the way to Glorieta NM & loved it.
I remember when Underwoods was good. Sadly the quality has steadily decreased over the years.

I love the Turtle. I've been to Steve's, but it might have closed. You've gotta check out Lucille + Mabel. So good.
Spent plenty of time at Bowie
Fantastic content as always, give this man a national syndication!!!
This episode is Yellow Jacket approved!
That's a place I can go visit. Been to the lake probably 35yrs ago never went into town tho...daytrip folks!!
Been to Underwood's 3 times.. no idea what people like about it unless they only eat the rolls and cobbler. The meat... Ehh
Certainly your opinion.
@@chickenjo23 yep that's how it works

We used to go to Underwood’s when visiting my grandparents. Fried okra is the best!

Someone bought the building and opened a Asian food joint.
No, Lemongrass is moving from Coggin Ave. To where Studdabakers was.
They literally just closed. By the time filming and editing then production and posting happens it takes a little time.
$hit Happens.
Yay a show about town in wood of brown i love the town i live that plase it so epic :3

Been eating underwood’s for 58 years
Grew up eating at Underwood's in Ft. Worth. Was the best
I didn't know there were others. I've only known the Brownwood one.
No rolls compare with Spring Creek rolls hot and buttered right out of the oven. The Arlington place is the only one I have been to.
I lived in bwood 2 years and always worked but tried a few places. Definitely gonna have to try Lucille an Mabel. Also ice cream place.

Oh, Underwood's! 😋 ❤
I can’t take this guy seriously with those goofy hats 😂 Is that an Austin thing or something?

I live in Brady, TX I am from Austin but my family and I been dying to try Lucile and Mabiles
You should do a spot on Early, Tx.
Super random, but I think I spotted you in the UFOs: Investigating the Unknown documentary regarding Stephenville TX lol
Went to Underwood’s in Fort Worth. Owners might have had some problems and had to close.
Chet, your mother and you have the same twinkly blue eyes! :)
I've eaten at the one that was in Odessa many times.
Chet, what brand of boots are those you're wearing? I want some.

Was that really your mom? 🥰
I think so as the resemblance was uncanny. I love it when sons look like their mommas 😍

you one of the people holding Brownwood back from thriving and being stuck in the past?
@@christopherbriggs9526 Brownwood is NOT stuck in the past!
Wild horses and free beer couldn't drag me to that Armpit of brownwood
Remember what your mama taught you...if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.
Well that's your loss and issue. Brownwood is a great town and has great people.
