Yes , is still Canon and they NEVER told Picard, secretly they all new , back in 20th century it WAS Guinan who had adopted the name "Whoopi"and successfully achieved an acting career , , , ,oh that's Data , ,he simply evolved a little and slipped, , , ,👽🖖🖖
The production quality is superb. Special effects, sound, writing and acting are indistinguishable from a real episode. Have to hand it to the cast and crew for doing such a good job on a charity skit.
Well Who-Pie, or Guinan is well over 600 years old and has been known to hang around Earth as well during the 20th century. So not so much a breaking of the Fourth Wall as a "WTF was she doing there back then"
Cinematography is so important. As funny and well-written as the script was, I think I laughed the hardest at the camera "walking" around the exterior of the Enterprise's hull, rather than gliding smoothly along as it did during actual episodes of TNG.
If I had to take a guess as to what Picard was doing during this whole thing, he was probably swigging down cup after cup of earl grey after finding out that these "artifacts" were nothing more than "teeeeee shirts" and "sweeeeeat shirts".
Real life answer: Patrick Stewart has a real career and got a lot of other work in several other things, unlike the other six primary cast members. He wasn't at the 30th Anniversary special, either. And neither was Leonard Nimoy, they both sent in pre-recorded messages. Because they were both most likely in the middle of acting in something that wasn't Trek related. All the other cast members who never get work in anything else were there, though. LOL.
I love how they did this. Star Trek is great in the first place, but when they support a charity cause by doing humor...awesome. I favorited this!!! :D
In the first few seconds, notice Riker when he stands up - He does the "Picard Maneuver" with his hands straightening his shirt.. classic! They obviously couldnt get Patrick Stewart for the skit - so, Riker being in the Captain's chair, he stands up, and does the Picard maneuver.. a nice in-joke!
So you’re telling me Patrick Stewart wouldn’t appear in this but would go on to star in The Emoji Movie?...the difference a couple of decades can make...
I'd die with happiness if they remade TNG in movie form. Although I love Star Trek 2009, there's just something about this series that makes it seem like it would be more epic!!!!!! :D
Heating Data describe everything in his precise, android, and as some crew memebers (even the enterprise's) computer would say, pedantic way is priceless when a applied to comic relief LOL
Its pretty trivial. You place the tape in a sample enclosure and then using a magneton scanner you create a datafile containing the magnetic profile of each atom within the tape. (Pro tip, set your scanning aperatus to only collect data from the tape and not the polymer casing or spindels.) Using the main computer you then run a series of physical remapping algorithims to create a linear datafile from the pointcloud information. It will be a little difficult to seperate the audio and video track from the seemingly random magnetic signature on the tape, but I'm sure any first year cadet could do it with some simple pattern recognition subroutines. You can then call it up in whatever LCARS terminal you wish and play it back by running the ancient VHS protocol through a translation matrix.
Hilarious!!! Esp. Beverly asking about Whoopi's resemblance to Gunian; I love her *Is is just me...?* and the look on her face. Priceless! I also love Data's descriptions of the TEEEEE-shirts! Good spoof; wish there were more like this!
Jackpot!!never seen this. Ok everyone I am a huge star trek fan like you..I can't wait for the new star trek movie in theaters dec25,2008 make sure you go and see it, support trek
I love how freaked out Worf looks at the mention of polyester.
This is canon.
Data used a verbal contraction. LORE, you bastard!

Agreed
They looked so offended that it was a cotton/polyester "blend" lol
The production quality is superb. Special effects, sound, writing and acting are indistinguishable from a real episode. Have to hand it to the cast and crew for doing such a good job on a charity skit.
That's because the normal crew filmed it, you dummy. They did this while filming a regular episode.
i love how data says teeee shirt and sweeeeat shirt
Beverly: "Is it just me, or does this 'Who-pie' person bear a striking resemblance to Guinan?"
What fourth wall?
That’s a thing? :P
Dr. Crusher. Breaking the Fourth Wall before Deadpool made it cool.
Well Who-Pie, or Guinan is well over 600 years old and has been known to hang around Earth as well during the 20th century. So not so much a breaking of the Fourth Wall as a "WTF was she doing there back then"

@@marks47 The novels also have her on Earth in the 1980s and 1990s when she was caught up in the Eugenics Wars.
I respect how seriously the actors portrayed their characters, even outside of the series.
Great find!

I never saw this and I saw all episodes, thanks for the new laugh
This is why Star Trek tng will always be the goat sci fi show
badreligion1231 Goat?
GOAT, or Greatest Of All Time
Dude, the Star Trek:TNG cast should do this for every charity. This is quite brilliant.
whoo hoo... it's called the internets! i can watch shit from 11 years ago AND can comment on it without having to hit 88mph in a thunderstorm..
"Is it just me, or does this Hoo-pie person bare a striking resemblance to Guinan? You don't think... nah."
If I had to take a guess as to what Picard was doing during this whole thing, he was probably swigging down cup after cup of earl grey after finding out that these "artifacts" were nothing more than "teeeeee shirts" and "sweeeeeat shirts".
Don’t forget the video cassette.

I literally heard that 🤣 😂
HOO-PIE Goldberg! I bout died!! LOL
You're their target audience
I can't believe I just watched original TNG material that I've never seen before. Thank you!
eight years later, same. Hello, person six months from now!
@@YoureRatherDumb 9 months close enough?
@@YoureRatherDumb Or two years? 🙂🙃
@@YoureRatherDumbthree years later but hi!
I remember watching this clip from the early days of comic relief. Thank you for sharing this video.
whoo-pie sounds Klingon if you say it right
Yes, "Hu pay." could mean ‘He/she regrets the zoo.’ :)
I love how they did this. Star Trek is great in the first place, but when they support a charity cause by doing humor...awesome. I favorited this!!! :D

I’m glad they addressed the Guinan thing.
I love Gates McFadden's seriousness in asking one of the funniest questions in the clip. I also liked the mispronunciation of Goldberg's first name.
Gotta love Worf's reaction to the word, "polyester"!
Who pie. LOL
I saw this the night it aired on HBO, January 8,1994, I was 10 years old, it's still hilarious all these years later!.
Hey! We're looking in from outside the ship!!
Just noting that we've never seen the Observation Lounge from that view.
"Where there is laughter, there is hope." Data is my hero.
He was using contractions because he was quoting.
II E L L U L II
He's supposed to not be able to use them at all.
Hmmm... This Hoo-Pie Goldberg bears a striking resemblance to Guinan...
WOOOO PIE
I died when they said "Hoo-pie"
I love that they did this with a straight face
Man Alive this is cool - living in Australia I never saw this before - very nicely done and the tie-in with Ms Goldberg is inspired stuff!
Well, Guinan is a lot older than she seems....
Actually we already knew this. In an episode where Data gets stranded in a time just after the old west, he meets Guinan and enlists her help.
gah why can't red dead redemption and AC4 be merged into the same game?!?! gahhhhh
This should be on some type of Star Trek Lost footage DVD because its so freakin cool!!
put on the teeeee shirt Wolf go on your honnor demands it
I really liked this. Not only was it funny, but it had a good message.
So you’re telling me Patrick Stewart wouldn’t appear in this but would go on to star in The Emoji Movie?...the difference a couple of decades can make...
Just saw this for the first time. Awesome :D

I bought a Comic Relief '87 T-shirt off e-bay for 20 bucks.
My life is now complete.
Yay. Hoo Pie XD Wow. Gotta love Data.
i love star trek this is a rare and awesome gem thanks for posting it
🤣😂🤣😂 “Whooh-Pie?” Lmao. That’s hilarious. And the Guinan resemblance. Whelp Guinan is super old. They did an 1800’s episode and she was there.
Saw that when it first aired... all I could remember of it was the "Who-Pie" joke. Awesome to see it again :D
Can not get over the way Data says t shirt
I saw this clip years ago at a con and thought I'd never see it again. Still as funny as I remember.
Another great reason to watch this show.
I remember seeing this in '94. Whoopi's reaction was "Whoo-pie!!?" :p
Really enjoyed this, thanks
Lol... "Whoo-pi Goldberg".
one of the most awesome things i have ever seen! BTW nice guinan reference!
"Where there's laughter, there's hope."
Is it just me, or did I hear Data use contractions? 😉
Oh my gosh this is hysterical 😂
I love this!! :-) 5 stars!
I never heard about this; what a delightful surprise after all these years...thanks! :-D
This must’ve been pre-Bell Riot era clothing
thanks for uploading!!!

Whoo-pie, who is Whoo-pie? ;)
I've never seen this before. Thank you for sharing it.
So awesome. Thanks for sharing
That's an awesome skit!!! Very well done!
Maybe the best 2:40 of TNG I have ever seen. :) Thanks for sharing this gem!
Love it! Brilliant!
this is so wonderfully funny and adorable
LMAO! i remember seeing that when it aired. i think whoopi said after that; "300 years in the future people are STILL mispronouncing my name."
Loved it! The jab at polyester was great.
I want to know how you download a VHS tape?
They put it in a machine that records it and transfers it to be digital.
The real question is: did they rewind?
Same way you download rice 😅
Data's butt doubles as a VCR player, Lore was Betamax.
B4? 8 track player.

For a contribution of 60 dollars or more, they were given a T-shirt and a SWEAT-shirt.
Priceless Brent Spiner delivery.
"is that guinan?"
Bwahahahahahahaahahahahaha I think i just died laughing!!!!!

I watched this skit at a Star Trek convention in 1994. I was 10.

I've never seen this before....That was awesome X)...
Thanks for the upload, you are the kind of person that truly makes TH-cam special, instead of just one huge episode of AFV. (golfclap)
Worf looked pissed after saying "Woo-pie"
Pretty class!
How good. Man I miss the old TNG crew. Imagine when these dudes are dead. How sad that will be.

Mostly an ad for a charity, but the Polyester joke was super funny!
i love this...
CLASSIC!!!!
Wonderful!
I died laughing and then I had a thought... Worf with a red nose.
Noble cause though. Data's little bit at the end had a good message.
Great. REally gets you to think how future generations will look back on out time.
I think I laughed most with the guy with the mullet coming in to take over the security position.
I actually remember this. I saw it when if first aired. Awesome
