@@benlecluyse love the resonance of your deep voice first of all. This has to be the most honest critical report of a new car I've ever heard or seeing. The price is scary enough impound imagine what that's in USA dollars. And the front and sides are butt ugly. The Backs not bad but doesn't ring a bell for me either.

I am not sure what you think about BMW interiors lately, but I feel BMW is throwing away their well-known reputation of having the most functional interiors ever, all for entering the competition of minimalism with Mercedes and Tesla. What is your opinion?

I hope your back has healed. You did a great job even when you were in pain. My 2022 BMW iX50 is at the port in Germany awaiting transit to the US. I am a two-time BMW X5 owner, who fell in love with the iX when it was still in camouflage. My husband and I both pre-ordered iX50's on 8/18/2021. Mine is Aventurine with Oyster interior and his is Phytonic Blue with Amido interior. I scored two demo test drives and I was blown away by the performance. So thanks again for reviewing my "Aventurine Beauty" on TH-cam. Can't wait to bring her home.

A lot of comments slagging off the external styling, but I while I don't particularly love the looks, it's no worse than many other SUVs.
What I don't like is the massive weight (again, probably on a par with rivals) and, as Joe pointed out, no physical buttons for climate control functions, which BMW usually does well at.

Joe, you're a real trooper for making this video despite hurting your back. Much respect! So glad that someone else has finally mentioned the positioning of armrests, which I am really particular about and others think I'm being overly fussy. Thank you for the vindication, Joe! I love your reviews because I'm about the same height as you are, so if you can get comfortable in a car, then I know if would work for me too. Hope your back feels better soon, Mate!

It's an amazing vehicle and a typically excellent assessment by Joe. My concern is that one day, one of these 2.6 ton behemoths will hit me in my 1990s two seater which, being low is out of the eyeline of SUV drivers. And that will be the end of me. In other words, I think my car is going to have to go.

I think the looks might grow on people. BMW have a knack of bringing out quite advance designs which sometimes become classics. The i3 the first BMW EV is a case in point. That still looks like a concept car, yet they are finishing production. This car as you say Joe, will be best in dark colours. Black, dark green, dark blue and dark grey. But it is very expensive in the ideal spec. I know it’s a different style of car but a Taycan for the same money would be just as comfortable and much more special. You certainly don’t feel ashamed when you walk away from it or towards it.
Surely looks are very important. This might just need a refresh. Who knows we might all love it in two years time. But this might become more affordable quickly if it doesn’t and then at £50k this would be a bargain with 20k miles on the clock! With its drivability and comfort it might be just fine. But only in black!
Get well soon Joe. Great reviews by the way.
Pick of the BMW I range now is the i4 40. Comfort, range and performance with traditional BMW feeling. Better than the M50 as it’s just so relaxing. Has most of the drive features of the iX for half the price.

  • @kiwi335d

Great review Joe. I see many iX reviewers are not keen on the iDrive interface due to complexity. I agree that it would be nice to have a few more buttons for the frequently used actions, however it is nice to be able to access so many technical features that wouldn’t likely be available with a conventional car interface, because there would be just too many buttons. My ten year old Lexus LX SUV doesn’t have near as many features as this iX, yet I counted over seventy buttons and knobs in the front of my Lexus….

I saw plenty of your videos, they are pretty awesome. I have gotten a quick look on the ix overall in person, and the head of the dealer told me, it’s comfy, and it won’t handle as well as X3 M40i or the X3M. I saw your video commenting on both ICE X3, and I still own that lovely M40i. Want to get your opinion on how ix50 handles when stiffen….The dealer can’t get the M50 yet, so I can’t drive it yet

I actually first saw this car in detail at the Berry BMW Croydon meet (in memory of Dave King). I was surprised as to how good the interior is. The range is really good if you can charge from home. Hopefully they will release a svelte coupe version to prevent owners having to don the shades whilst outside the car. A smaller sized model will also make more sense. Take care, hope your back improves, it must have taken twice as long for you to film this.

Some of BMW's recent designs remind me of those animal drawings we did as kids where you fold a piece of paper, draw your part, pass it on to the next person, etc and then unfold it to see what the animal looked like. Rhinelephantpus! That was fun, but this is a bit confusing. BMW Incongruity 🤔

Not sure what you're comparing the range to, but which X5 has less than 300miles range? Even as a petrol, and if you get a diesel version you will probably get out 800-1000km, depending on driving styles. Its even less sensitive than any e-car regarding the driving behavior. I am sure 300miles you'll only get, if you drive pretty calm and slow.
To me its all not an option...
Have to say, the adaptive regen is an awesome feature, it works sooo well! Something I think, only BMW can manage to do! Loved that in the i4. Overall nice cars, but the range kills it all for my personal usages...

The packaging looks off to me.
Looks like it's designed to have an online 12 cylinder engine judging by the long bonnet and " cabin back" seating (just look how long the steering column is and how far away from the driver the bottom of the windscreen is.
And then with the boot open ,there seems to be 12" each side (were the hidden rear lights are) that seems dead space as far as the boot shape is concerned.

  • @thefamilyrobbo
    @thefamilyrobbo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

If I saw one from the front or back I'd probably think it was an Alfa at first glance. From the side it's more like one of those Korean abominations from about twenty years ago.
On paper it is so good in so many respects but I feel completely indifferent to it
BMW's motto was the 'Ultimate driving machine' and that referred to the driver experience.
Although fast, we're now heading towards 'the ultimate self driving machine' I don't actually mind taking responsibility for stopping at traffic lights!
Ideal for Mr and Mrs Suburban Professional and their 2.4 little darlings but not a BMW in my opinion.

Awesome car but a bit of a bus on UK roads and with our sized parking spaces. Door ding collector. I even like the looks just as long as it's not black. Don't need a garage for a charge point btw. I think this is the second EV review i've seen where you've mentioned "if you have a garage" in relation to charging 😃. Driveway/off-road parking is sufficient. Home wall chargers are really just glorified electrical sockets, albeit capable of 7kw+ - the actual charger is onboard the EV. Good review, as always 👍

Excellent, detailed review as always Joe. Well done. Hope your back gets well soon.
BMW survived the Bangle era. The iX will survive too. That interior alone will sell bucket loads. There is nothing out there in the SUV/Crossover BEV market with this level of luxury. Personally though, I will be looking elsewhere when the time comes to get rid of my current 2021 X5M Comp. Even though I've already done 3 test drives of the iX so far, I still can't get over the looks.
If rumours turn out to be true that there will be an iX5, just like BMW did with the iX3, I will definitely be considering that instead, regardless of the performance compromises that come with converting an ICE platform into a BEV. That's because in my opinion, the X5 is the best looking SUV that BMW currently makes. An X5 converted into an iX5 will be a seriously yummy temptation for me. As for this BMW iX, I'm afraid it's gonna be a no from me.

    • @jamviator

As with so many BMWs the external look tends to be controversial but then eventually grows and you. Casein-point E60 especially the sorts pack and the 5 series GT sports pack. Both ridiculed as ugly ducklings when they were released but turned out to be beautiful and desirable cars later.

Hmmm.. It’s actually growing on me and much better in flesh but that’s the most charitable I can be. Scratchy interior is a no-no. It’s the one thing I love about the 7, the interior quality punches above real purchase price but at the silly prices BMW want for this (double my 7 series after discount), I expect nothing less than perfect. Having tried it, I’m also a bit confused at to who it is aimed at. Boot is useless for X5 family. Having that extra legroom is no use when you’d rather the extra boot space. We’ve got an X7 M50d and this seems like remarkable value as a family car compared to this (yes I know it’s relative and we’re lucky). Surprised by your comments saying you think back is as comfortable as 7 series - didn’t think so at all and also thought the front seats were nothing on comfort seats.
I’m looking to see what new 7 will be like. So far, signs are both good and bad. But first time in 9 BMW purchases, we’re thinking of moving.
I like buttons!! Perhaps just getting old… 🤣. Hope back gets better quickly Joe

The grille is unforgivable. I like the m3 and m4 but this really looks like a beaver mobile.

Have yet to see one in the metal, but in dark colours it looks like handsome sculpture, rather than just poor design or styling, in black it reminds me of Darth Vader on wheels. X7 & Cullinan are selling, isn't this waitlisted?

Thankfully we all have different tastes, agreed they do look better in black, it thankfully hides much of the design.

The interior is really next level and I love the ambient lighting, but I could never buy a car that looks this bad, no way

I hate the outside , it looks so damn ugly ; love the inside , looks so premium, luxurious , ergonomic , next level , cool !
They say the ride is smooth , comfortable , and it's pretty responsive for a big -a!s SUV.
What do you say Joe , I'd like your opinion ?
    Great video , keep'em coming , bye , bye !!!

Hi Joe, the seat colour is all wrong with the exterior. Non Tesla Electric cars seem to mostly have grey or anthracite/black seats, any reasoning ro it?

    • @youraveragejoe1
      @youraveragejoe1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Almost every car on the road has black seats and so do most teslas… as the white leather costs more on them. Black is the most soft (along with brown) colour to the eyes and won’t get stained like white or light colours will…

First time I have seen one of your videos Joe. Enjoyed it very much. I have a iX50 on order (in Australia) and obviously I did not have the problem some people have regarding its looks. A lot of cars don't look good when new models come, but one soon gets used to it. Have seen now many TH-cam videos on the iX and without exception everyone speaks very highly of this car. Have no doubts it will be a good buy after the many BMW's I have owned before including X5, 7 Series, 640 GT, 530 GT and a few coupes etc. Then I went to a VW Touareg Wolfsburg, which is good, (have only had it nine months) but it is now going to make way for the 'electric beast'. Never thought I would rush to electric, but after learning about the iX50 it seems a great choice. And we have already put in the 3 phase electricity into our garage to prepare for its arrival later in the year. The colour of your test vehicle is exactly what I have ordered. Must complement you on the 4k quality of your video. Excellent. Hope you back is better soon. Nothing worse!

Agree with you Joe, the exterior styling is a dog, don’t like the front-that grill - it just grates in me, rear is just dull and characterless, but the side profile is the worst, it just looks out of proportion. As a lifelong BMW fan for over 35 years (325i, 328i, 540i, 750i, 650i GC, X5M50D, X3M40i, and current X5M50i) if I’m forced to go electric one day this styling abomination would be the end of my relationship with BMW, I’m going to keep my gorgeous 2021 X5M50i until it dies or I die.

Another great vid, Joe. It makes something like new Range Rover look an absolute dinosaur!
I’m with you on the styling although that colour looks particularly awful. I thought the white one I saw at North Oxford BMW a couple of weeks ago looked ok..

If you are paying £120k for a car you want to at least look out the window each morning and think ‘Wow’ but with this there is no way you would get this feeling.. regret most probably.

As much as I appreciate your efforts Joe, I simply had no patience for the car’s exterior; it is truly hideous from every angle. What is BMW doing??? Still, I look forward to your next video. Most importantly, I hope your back recovers quickly!!
