    Quick tip for everyone reselling at Ross, ask an employee what days they restock or get new shipments on. You'll be the first to get all the best stuff if you go in that day or day after. This isn't even from a seller (yet) just someone who likes shopping there. Mine usually restocks Tuesdays 👍 Totally will save you the hassle of going store to store.

      Damien Gomez my Ross gets a truck every day mon-fri and roughly about 250-300 total pairs of shoes (men’s,women’s,kids) they have all the shoes out between 12:30-3:00

      Damien Gomez I worked at Ross for more than 5 years. We get shipments everyday except sundays. BUT still definitely make friends with the employees because sometimes we get in trucks but don’t have employees to run out the items. And usually when customers ask “do you have it in the back?” We say no because the items haven’t been processed for floor or we don’t have time to drop what we’re doing to go on a wild goose chase in the HUGE stockroom. But this one dude who resold our shoes would ask me if we got anything new in and I’d be more than happy to go check for him cause he was always pleasant (very welcome in retail). And once he found a pair of Nikes that had no price and I told him find another pair of Nikes and I’ll give him that price. He found some kid’s pair for like $10. I honored that price. ALWAYS BE NICE TO PEOPLE IN RETAIL. It goes a long way in getting what you want.

    Pro tip: Leave earlier and start at the furthest store from your house then work your way back.

    • @alejandroalbarran2269
      @alejandroalbarran2269 6 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      Glen Atchison that’s not a pro tip. It would be much better to start at stores near your house and go from there. If you start at the one farthest from you you will waist time driving there, but if you start with the one near you and slow drive to the farthest one as you shop you won’t waste any shopping time.

      Dependent on store count. 1. Closer drive home at the end of the day. 2. Can finish the store visit the following day, shorter drive. (Half day)

    • @BrianCheng24
      @BrianCheng24 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Waking up early and start at the first store at 830am is the best tip. Whether you go to the furthest or closest store is irrelevant unless traffic is being taken into account.

    I work in the stock room at Ross and I tag the shoes that you see. Trust, Anything worth buying or selling doesn’t make it to the floor. Employees scoop it at 20% off Ross price or 40% off every 4 months. Oh and when something goes on clearance whoever’s doing markdowns scoops it at 20% off the clearance price as soon as they mark it. My advice to you is get a job at Ross so that you get first dibs, discounts and don’t have to waste time and gas goin to other stores.

    • @chriss.8582
      @chriss.8582 6 ปีที่แล้ว +114

      Not true dude, I scoop up highly profitable items from Ross stores regularly, in almost every department. I also do it in this guy's backyard, so apparently you guys miss enough items in the back to keep both of us making money. Keep up the stellar work.

    • @tgo007
      @tgo007 6 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Would be interesting to see what would be the true "salary" of someone who works at Ross and flips things on the side. If it's 20hr and you're not living in a high cost place, then it sounds pretty good assuming it's a pretty chill and easy job.

    • @Truen091
      @Truen091 6 ปีที่แล้ว +74

      Timothy Crouch I agree with you. But, the main point I’m trying to make is that the guy in the video is misleading people with HIS shoe flipping business model. First his profit margins are too slim to account for gas ,other vehicle wear and tear, shoe consistency, online seller costs and time. Bottom line: the only gain in his method is in the form of views and subscriptions on his TH-cam channel.

    • @Truen091
      @Truen091 6 ปีที่แล้ว +55

      tgo007 I work in Northern California at the highest volume store in the area out of about 20 stores that are on our truck routes. I process every shoe that touches the floor Mon-Sat(no truck on Sunday)at an average of 500 shoes a day. So I can tell you that without a doubt, even with first dibs, and 20-40% MORE profit margin than the guy in the video(due to my discount), I’m only making about $72 a week extra flipping shoes. That average was taken over the course of a year. So yeah flipping Ross shoes at its highest level is not self sustaining which is why I’m in school. Hope this helped.

    • @Truen091
      @Truen091 6 ปีที่แล้ว +42

      Timothy Crouch First, I never complained about anything. Second, how is getting 40% off of the very thing you’re trying to flip a downside? For example, why do you think the USA outsources jobs to China? Because they pay less for product hence an increase in profit margin. I can break it down further: you buy a shoe for $4 , sell it for $10 and make six dollars. I buy the same shoe for $1, sell it for $10 and make nine dollars. Logic....

      That's because no one doing this as a "side hustle" makes bank. This video is just hype for views cuz everyone wants to make easy money. After gas, effort, selling fees, shipping, promotion... People are making 5-10 bucks on something they invested 60 bucks in, it's just that no one wants to admit that. Real return is making at least double what you paid. Sure 5-10 bucks profit isn't horrible, but when you calculate everything you've done to get it, it's like being paid 7 bucks an hour if that.

    FYI when searching eBay for your ‘market analysis’ if you put the design or model number in the search field it will only pull up items that also have those in the title/subject field as well. To pull up more matching items go to ‘filters’ and turn on ‘search in description’ then the items that have your model number in the details and/or extended description field will also show. Then I would sort them price low to high so you can see around what you would place your starting price

    couldn't help but chuckle seeing you're from portland.
    but forreal living here and shopping for clothes to flip is so hard considering so many people actually shop at goodwill on a daily basis here. Like we are living in a hipster town where many people choose to shop there for all their clothes.

      ha okay like that makes a difference. For goodwill you have to be basically waiting outside on sunday morning to get first picks of the new color. Even if you do they charge ridiculous prices for clothes compared to other youtubers who goto thrift stores in their states.

    First kudos to you for being so ambitious and willing to teach people, I too live in the Portland area and have been doing exactly what you do for 15 years. As far as I could tell (I didn't see any competition in person and could not find them by searching local sellers on ebay) 10 years ago I was the only one doing bulk buy arbitrage at Columbia Sportswear and certain other outlets in the area (it's always been happening at stores like Nike), too bad it's not that way anymore.
    I have looked into buying wholesale like you've done but I've never been impressed with what is available, judging from what you got in those 3 boxes I wouldn't say you really scored but you may have done alright. If you were happy then who am I to judge? I could be wrong.
    I've done some picking at Ross and that's how I found your videos. It looks to me like your average profit on those shoes is right around $15 each, if you spent 12 hours picking you'll spend 3 more getting them listed and shipped, 15 hours work for $345 profit (minus about $25 gas) is about $21 an hour. I know that's only part of your work but that's not worth it for me, that's why I don't go on Ross only runs, but I will stop by there if I'm doing other things. Funny side note...I once made a terrible buy at Ross many years ago, I bought at least 30 pairs of Timberland hiking boots that took me forever to sell and I only broke even on. I vowed that day to never take a chance on something that there were no comps on. Another thing about Ross is that lots of times they have the same product spread all over the country, and if you find it at your store there is going to be a lot of competition from other pickers on Ebay that are willing to make a pittance on each pair. That's why sometimes if I find a good score at Ross, I will hold onto them until everyone else sells out on Ebay and then list them for a descent profit. (same thing with Nike, I swear there are pickers out there who will spend $30 at a Nike outlet to make five bucks profit).
    I started my business in Portland moved to Seattle and then Spokane. Picking was so good from 2010 to 2012 in Seattle and Portland, that I would make two day trips from Spokane, pick up 100 pairs of shoes in Seattle, 30 in Portland and add some clothing as well. In two long days I would end up with $3000 in average profit, I only had to do that once a month, man my life was easy. The glory days of picking are gone, but you can still do alright, there is just way more competition now.
    I found your channel really interesting and thank you for your quality content, I wish you the best of luck! :)

    Heads up to new buyers....EVERYONE knows Ross, Marshalls, etc sells cheaper shoes...and the same shoes get sold at tons of stores, so the asking price on Ebay for them plunges very quickly. Pretty easy to end up with a ton of shoes that you'd be happy to unload after 2 months at cost. You'll find a couple winners, but when only 3-4 pair sell nationwide in a month....you're better off at yard sales and thrifts.

      Absolutely. It's a ton of work hustling from store to store, and I respect the hell out of you. Cleats and spikes can be very seasonal though, so it's tough to do a turn-and-burn on them. Definitely not dissing your video though. I admit, we make a killing on shoes, but I will also admit, that's it's gotten super competitive, compared to even 5 years ago.

      That's the inherent problem with this model, you're buying out of season/closeouts/non-sells and hoping a sucker doesn't live within 20 miles of a Ross/TJMaxx/Burlington who could have just bought them himself.

    This is so useful! Thank you very much for the code explanation which will make it easier for me to get started back on ebay with shoes...I find them so cheap everywhere! I pick up brand new shoes with tags at thrift stores for $5 and I found clearance shoes at Walmart for $1...not much risk there so I bought every pair. I saw some go for $40 a pair for those ones but I dont expect to get that much.... Today I scored gently used shoes that were $90 new for $5 for myself. Ross is a great place to shop for my own shoes and now I see how the code works...great idea to check them out...

    Sometimes it makes no sense to go to thrift stores, because between the prices at Marshall's/TJs and Ross, the prices are so close. I was at TJ's and bought a great winter jacket for $32 with fleece liner reduced from $69. Hit the clearance racks for new items. The thrift stores are raising their prices so high, unless you go to the 1/2 days it's not worth it to shop there to arbitrage.
    Another thing about EB (and AMZ) is look to see how many hundreds or thousands are listed. If you run into an item that's thousands and thousands of listings, don't buy it.
