    I've to say you maybe are one of the very few who has made a statement that is so true, the system sounds good and is great if you like it and no two tastes are alike. I have purchased systems beginning in 1974 and I have to say what you've said is so true and if someone tries to tell you differently don't let them. Audio equipment should be what you like and nothing else no matter what anyone else says!

    Let me get this straight...so the electrical and acoustic engineers who designed and built the equipment, costing tens of thousands of dollars, deliberately supplied the equipment with power cables that screw up the equipment's performance?

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  ปีที่แล้ว +14

      I agree. Some people think high quality audio gear is a waste of money. I think that is complete nonsense. Usually it's those who can't afford systems that say that, because if they actually are honest and get to listen to their favourite recordings on a proper system, it's impossible not to get moved by the music and hear things you wouldn't on a normal setup or your phone. I usually tell people to "be and let be". Be happy for others and if owning a system isn't for you, then that's ok too. :)

      @@PanTheOrganizer I used to own a pair of Devialet Phantom Reactor 900’s for my music, but then swapped them our for a pair of Gold Phantoms. You could argue that they don’t deliver the performance for price, and I myself would not consider them to be audiophile grade, but man I have never since heard such low end performance from such small cabinets.
      I then swapped them out for a pair of LS60 wireless floorstanding last year and have had these since. I usually stick to all in one active units as I don’t have the luxury to experiment with external amps or dacs, however I have many a headphones and use balanced Drop+Grace dac with balanced thx AAA 789 amp to power them.
      Music is certainly a passion and people become very confused as to how we can “waste” money on audio equipment. But you can’t put a price on passions, because it’s what we live for.
      Keep it up Pan. You inspire us all!

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah I know Devialet products quite well, I myself have a limited edition sage green version of the new Phantom II, and for its size (it's in my living room), people are always blown away by the power and sound quality that comes out of there, and super low distortion even at crazy loud volumes. It's a great party trick haha.
      I also had some LS50 wireless speakers (which I reviewed in this video: th-cam.com/video/sjdP8XYiDSY/w-d-xo.html) and those two were great. UniQ technology baby!
      And I fully agree with you, nobody should argue when it comes to passions. Let people enjoy what they worked hard to achieve and purchase. I think usually, those who say it's a waste of money simply don't have the money to afford high quality setups, so they have to belittle others to make themselves feel better about not owning a great setup. I can assure you that if they won the lottery or had a higher paying job, they would jump on the chance to own a great sound system!! ;)

      I agree with you 100%. In the HiFi world too often people try to convince others of things like “cables are snake oil” or “vinyl is the best, digital is crap” or “don’t get that brand it’s garbage” etc
      They should just let people pick what works for them and let them enjoy their music the way they want to, which should be the main focus here: enjoying our passion for music.
      You could have 100 people in the same room and not two people would have the same exact setup. People have different tastes and budgets. There is no “one system bests them all” type answer. Buy what makes you happy and what makes you tap your feet. :)

    The 801's with a lot of power behind them are incredibly precise in the bass. Most systems are very mushy in the low frequencies. However you have have immense current availability because when the piston needs to move quickly the electromagnetic force needed means you have to deliver huge currents briefly, so although you only need a few watts to run them normally, you gotta have that giant reserve of power.

    • @Gamez4eveR
      @Gamez4eveR ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Most systems are "very mushy in the low frequencies" not because of the speakers whatsoever, but because of room acoustics.
      Even basic room correction will take away narrow peakes in bass response from room modes, and after that's done you'll hear bass is not "mushy" at all anymore.
      After learning how to do room correction, I have not once heard bass in an uncorrected stereo system that even comes close to mine, even in systems literally 20 times the price of mine.
      Because most of these megabuck systems are owned by purists who never quite understand sound and audio

      @edwarddejong8025 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was fortunate enough to hear the 801's in San Rafael CA at a fancy home theater store that is probably long gone. Those 16 inch woofers, when powered by 1000 Watts with no fancy electronics are super tight, like being in a room next to the kick drum. The founder of Sony Akio Morita had special 3ft wide speakers put in his ceiling so that he could have the most faithful bass experience. The physics of air require either a very large piston, or a big electrostatic membrane kind to push a large area of air swiftly. Most subwoofers and bass reflex systems are incredibly mushy, as they trade accuracy for volume (that is way late time-wise).@@andrewleigh3

      @@PanTheOrganizer I'm sure they're super good. Top tier is great. They apparently sell a lot of them if you're buddy has 6. My criticism is only in system design. Not whether the gear is nice enough. Your B&Ws literally have woofers in them already. If you have small subs to save space, fine. But I see a bit of redundancy here. "fill that lower part and add a foundation" sounds like something the sales guy told you.

      I am very thorough in A & B testing when selecting components for a new system. This is my 7th or 8th big setup at this point in my life, so I have quite a bit of experience. I attend audio shows as well which helps familiarize myself with new products or new brands. But testing in a quiet room with music I am used to is key. I'm sure you know how important the synergy between components is. You can have the best speakers in the world and the best amps, but they might not be a perfect pairing.
      So when I tested this setup without the subs, and then we added the subs, it was night and day. To anyone who thinks subs aren't needed in a HiFi setup, I beg to differ. Heck even that 2M setup doesn't sound remotely the same without the subs in play. It's another world. You have to test. :)
      I'm guessing you are a system installer or HiFi shop owner? You seem to have experience in the field. I don't claim to be as experimented as experts, as it's a hobby for me, but I always deal with top tier professionals from reputable audio shops near me.

      @@PanTheOrganizer A/B testing is great. Toole talks at length the benefits. But even with him, you have to consider context, as most of his teachings are based around working in the industry. Myself, I try to stay out of the industry officially but who knows what the future holds. Being familiar with products and brands, and dealing with shops shows you are an educated consumer. But I encourage you to delve deeper. Especially with the money being spent!
      As of late I am heavily involved with competition car audio. The sound quality/audiophile side. In a vehicle, synergy and system design is paramount. By that, I don't mean equipment just has the same name brand on it. (Although there is some great equipment coming from brands like Dynaudio, Focal, Scanspeak, etc.) If you're not familiar, we do extensive amounts of tuning with high powered DSP. Including fully active parametric EQ, time delay, phasing, all pass filters, crossovers, etc. for each individual driver. (usually a 3 way front stage and subwoofer somewhere) Individual amp channels for each. Personally, I "tune" my vehicles, as well as others and am dipping my toes into evaluating home systems. Using software such as REW and SMAART. So I would say, pro-level, but I think going "professional" would take all the fun out of it! Possibly more involved than you want to be, I think you've already mentioned a professional evaluating the sound.
      All of this to say... If you really want to blow your buddies away, Get bigger subs!

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      But you can still help clean up that signal from the wall before it actually reaches the equipment. And then have another stage of filtration from the power cable into the power conditioner, etc.
      It's too long to write, but do you research and draw your own conclusions. In case with super high end setups like these, cables can make a difference. Not as much as getting better speakers or amplifiers, but in the chain of tweaking, when you are at a point where you already invested in super high end gear, speaker cables, power cables and interconnects can often give you that little extra percentage in sound quality. Do A & B testing and see if you can hear it.
      If you can't hear a difference, great. You saved a bunch of money hehe. But I certainly can hear a differences with the ultra high end speaker and power cables on proper setups. And many fellow audiophiles do as well.

      What system do you have currently?

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Too many to remember all of them, as this was a process over many months. Selecting components for a system of this magnitude takes time, a lot of A& B testing, and visiting many different audio shops, as not one carries all the brands. In the top contenders, there were Sonus Faber Il Cremonese, B&W 801 D4 and 802 D4, Wilson Audio Sasha V and Alexia V, Magico S5 MKII, Focal Sopra no 3 & Maestro Utopia EVO.

    With all of the tubes in your beautiful rack full of McIntosh equipment, I thought for sure I would see the MC901 1-Channel Dual Mono Amplifier next. Am I correct in assuming your choice was due to the 1.25 kW, which far eclipses the MC901 power?

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The MC901 is a great amp, but I preferred the MC1.25KW. A full solid state amp always has more power and control, which is what I prefer sonically. The rest of the flagship preamp and DAC are already in tube mode, so I didn't want to sway too much on the warm tones. I like a well balanced system.
      And with the MC1.25KW, I am future proofing my setup in a sense, as I know with confidence that it will be able to handle pretty much any speaker I connect to it. When I look at the meters, I barely go above 12 watts at my normal listening volume... Needless to say, these amps have a lot of headroom haha.
      Thanks for watching David!
      By the way, if you mentioned the MC901, I'm assuming you're an audiophile. What kind of setup are you running?

I am not sure that I am in your league of knowledge, but through folks like yourself, I continue to learn. As you likely realized, am a fan of McIntosh. Mine, however are what most folks would refer to as vintage these days. A pair of 1965 MC40's to be exact. As you understand so well, they are very warm. Since they are the only tubes in the mix, the end result is not too warm. Thank you again for your additional info. I am your newest subscriber!

    Seen ur other home theater set up how would u compare the revel, golden ear and sonus faber? Looking to upgrade from my klipsch

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  ปีที่แล้ว

      It would be unfair to compare them, as the Revel flagship Performa Be series are many times the price of the Golden Ear or Sonus Faber... If you have a big budget, then the Revel are in another league for sure. The Revel are well into the five figures.
      Bang for buck though, the Golden Ear speakers are pretty awesome. I had the Triton Two+ series, which is on the higher end, but you can get less expensive series in their lineup and they'd still likely do better than your Klipsch. What series of Klipsch speakers do you own?

    I appreciate that he loves what he has and isn't pretentious. I wouldn't even know where to begin to operate this 😂. The only thing that i would change is have the stack somewhere in a well ventilated enclosure off to the side. You still want it visible for ease of use and displaying its beauty, but front and center seems off to me.

    Crazy high-end setup! No expense spared.
    I was just watching a video on the showcase of the 801D4 Signature with the Michi monoblocs. This setup is way heavier on electronics than even Bowers and Wilkins used to showcase their speakers 😀. Do these speakers need a sub and can a sub match the quality of bass of the Aerofoil bass woofers?
    Never seen so many different ways of amplification and especially at the pre-amp and controller level. Just out of curiosity, did you use room correction at all?

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks! No room correction here, just trial and error for proper positioning of speakers, and a lot spent on an acoustician to get room measurements and report provided to a team that took care of room treatment.

    Oh my god. This system not only looks fantastic but sounds much better than most ive had the pleasure of listening too. I looked at a mcintosh set up around 6 months ago. Clearly in the uk this system would set you back around 150k. I envy you sir. The b&w 801d currently are 32k each in the uk. I cant express how insane this system is. You surely must have done alot of homework to see how well they all float together. Thank you for showing this extreme set up. Pitch perfect 😊

      @@PanTheOrganizer after looking into listening to my music in the best way I could and being a fond dj enthusiast I went the opposite way and decided on Devon dj6000. I know its not a good way to go but my dj gear with the mixer and monitor speakers means I can sit and try and mix the un mixable. In the good old days many moons ago I had the numark cdj 1000, ppd mixer, kaos pad 2 and a kork electribe with valves in a window. The set up I have now is no where as good as what I'd like and if money was no issue my dream set up is very similar to what you have. Mcintosh are the bees knees.
