This songs brings so many memories of my darling granny. A wee Scottish woman who loved Scotland and taught me how to fight for its freedom. She is gone from me now but, I am still fighting for this Country that is my very heart and soul. We will never give up until we are free. Alba gu brath.
Must be power of the Internet. The song is based on poem written by Lord byron ,a half English half Scots poet. And he led lead a wild party lifestyle by the sounds of it.
I have listened to the Corries for years and they will never be matched. I saw them live a few times and came out from their concerts feeling so proud to have had the privilege of just being there and having some of the best memories of my life. No one will ever come close, they were absolutely brilliant at everything they sang and played. It is too difficult to choose a favourite but this one comes close along with Loch Lomond and Come by the Hills
Oh you Corries, where are you now when we really need you? Our independence is now so close we can taste it on the wind, but our politicians are asleep or afraid or concerning their selves with nonsense. We really on the stupidity of English Tories to convince
... our Scottish people that we must now take control of our present , of our future and of our heritage, but there are no clear voices calling out the ways forward, and our spirits have no one to inspire them or lead them or remind them of who we are and much more important who we can and will be. Our songs are dead, our ears are deaf and our minds confused by lies and the plots of warmongers and opportunists. Are we really too small, too dull and too afraid to even try to live free, to be independent and dare to look upon our future with hope, with confidence and with love? Oh that we had again your clear hearts, your music and your emotional leadership.

Morag Grant: This version is simply AWFUL. It ruins Lord Byron's splendid poem, the lines of which I have posted above.
