I found the solution. Go into MENU while in video record mode and select the first icon that looks like a camera. Then click on the 5. Scroll to REMOTE CONTROL and select ENABLE. It will now recognize the remote in both pictures and video. Hope this helps.

I checked my canon book & for a new canon Purchaser,,, I didn’t know what I was looking for....til I cald them. Finally, I got my RC-6 to work. You're a life saver, Noone can explain why the RC-6 does not work with Canon 77 D. It is counterintuitive that the Bluetooth function is on disable. The manual does not explain it like you do. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I have the same exact camera and the RC-6 remote- following the video, I still can't get the remote to work. I have a brand new battery and it works in another device. Are there other settings on the camera that could prevent the remote from working? Is there a certain shooting mode that it has to be in? I have disabled wifi and bluetooth.

I've had a T2i from about the day it came out. Never knew it had a remote. Bought the whole kit with lens, cords, charger, crap I have never used and yet no $2 remote. Wow!

On a positive note this was an extremely helpful video. I am also experiencing the same issue with the remote not starting the video on my T7i. It clearly works in your video and my bluetooth remains in the disabled mode. It's fortunate that I'm mainly interested in the camera mode but it is puzzling why it will not work when set to video. I wonder if there is some other setting that you happen to have set that has importance that we are overlooking? At lease I can activate video mode using my smartphone.

I have that exact remote. I have a new SL2 but on the menu for the "self-timer: 10sec/remote" it does not say the word remote beside it. Cannot get it to work. Blue tooth is disabled like you say in the video. Battery is good in it and it seems to send a signal when the button is pushed (you can see it blink when viewed through the screen when pointing it at the lens) cannot get it to work or set it up. Frustrating since I know how handy it will be. Any suggestions?
how long distance will it work from? will it work in speed mode? (7 frames pr. sec). and is there a time limit as to how long it will work after i've set it up? (i wanna set up the camera to take close up stills of birds with my 80d. i will have to work from a distance, and wait a while for the birds to come.)

Thank you! Unfortunately it still didn't work. I think the remote is faulty as the battery is full, but it doesn't even light up when I push it and the camera shows no response to it whatsoever. I have a t7i also.
Had same problem. Solution is: After you follow all the steps in the video including clicking over into video mode with the selector switch on the top of the camera, you reenter the menu, select the camera (red) menu, scroll over to #5 column and enable remote control.

I found the solution.

Scroll to REMOTE CONTROL and select ENABLE.

It's important to note that when the camera is in video mode, switch in position #1 the camera focuses PRIOR to taking a still. AWESOME.

I have the same problem with my SL2... the remote does seem to be sending a signal but it won’t just work.
OK so there were some misinformation going around that the Sl2 had an IR sensor.. But it doesn't, so can only use a Bluetooth or Wi-Fi remote

how long distance will it work from? will it work in speed mode? (7 frames pr. sec). and is there a time limit as to how long it will work after i've set it up? (i wanna set up the camera to take close up stills of birds with my 80d. i will have to work from a distance, and wait a while for the birds to come.)
I am trying to take portrait (photos), i set to remote/10 seconds but photo keeps taking after 2 seconds, giving me less time to take self photos
I'm having trouble trying to get my remote to work with my T7i. So many others can do it. I must have some setting incorrect somewhere. Any ideas? Thanks!

It's not done through Bluetooth. If you follow with instructions on video that is how it should work

Thank you! Unfortunately it still didn't work. I think the remote is faulty as the battery is full, but it doesn't even light up when I push it and the camera shows no response to it whatsoever. I have a t7i also.

Had same problem. Solution is: After you follow all the steps in the video including clicking over into video mode with the selector switch on the top of the camera, you reenter the menu, select the camera (red) menu, scroll over to #5 column and enable remote control.
