When I was in high school, our literature book had a short story by Ray Bradbury intitled, "The Wilderness." I was fascinated by it, but the teacher and the rest of the students hated it. I had no better sense than to tell them why it was a fantastic story. Decades later, I was attending a conference where Mr. Bradbury was to give the lunch address and sell some books.
I went out and found an old copy of a book of his short stories at a used bookstore. I got him to sign "The Wilderness" and told him the story. He got a good laugh from it. I still have the book. I get it our every now and then and read the story again.
Now I've written 6 novels, a math book for people who are terrified of math, and just finished, "Violence, Lies, and Intimidation: A History of the Democratic Party. I am eternally grateful to Ray Bradbury for his influence.
I saw him at a Learning Annex "workshop" in LA. Basically Ray telling stories about his writing life. I sat in the front row and drank it all in. What a titan he was.
I love how his childhood inspired and inhabited his entire life. "The child is the father of the man" - was never more truly spake.
As much as I love Bradbury's stories (they are some of my favorites), it is the Bradburian philosophy of life that I love the most. That philosophy of life, or poetry of living, comes through in the stories, but I also love when he preaches it directly, like he does in these clips. This Bradburian philosophy of life, this Bradburian poetry of living, it seems to me, is an excellent roadmap for how to live a happy and good life. Thank you for posting this.
Yes, his sense of wonder, and sharing that wonder through the written word, was unparalleled! It is the essence of who he was as a person.
Ray Bradbury will definitely live forever. ❤ He is a hero in every sense of the word. I had the honor of meeting him when I was a h.s. senior. I am sharing my love of Bradbury with my current class of h.s. seniors. Ty Mr. Finney for everything! (my 11th and 12th grade English teacher).
20 years I’ve been researching neuroplasticty, authors, neuroscience to connect patterns related to manifestation, and creating the life desired. This is my obsession.
Anyway, I noticed R.B. spoke the same language from all the esoteric masters.
That is, thought is the substance of things not seen, felt with emotion as though it is real and alive, and forms as your desires reality.
Yet, too think it’s not enough. You must ACT IMMEDIATELY on that desire, persist to create it by devoting time every day to feeling the experience, until that thought form substance becomes reality.
What a wonderful thing to hear him speak this language. ❤

Thanks for this. His first tip, where he likens the first draft to speaking with someone and writing only with emotion and honesty first, made sense. I've never heard of that process described as such a natural and familiar process.

Yeah, you can be the best of a generation these days, and still not make it. It's all about money.
@@BKNeifert You are 100% correct. I'm friends with a handful of writers. People seem to think if you're published, or have a book out, or you are on a contract to write books, you've "made it". This is far, far from true! Most published writers still have a day job. A great many struggle.

I enjoy videos like this because they remind me of the pockets of passion in our history and its people.
My favorite piece of advice he gave was, "If you want a thing, go get it".
I agree with him in saying that most people don't want anything, and even if they do, they don't use their time and energy going to get it. I've been guilty of this myself and I'm happy to be in a place of life where I'm making good on my desires. Happy to be in the class!

Why do so many ppl pronounce his name Bradberry?
Because that's how it's pronounced in American English.
