- Today we are testing craft kits from Walmart and Amazon. Jellirez and Gemex are resin-like kits to help those who want to learn how to make resin charms. Epoxy resin is really fun to use but requires a lot of practice. Are these kits worth it? Let's unbox and review.

Hi Jackie! And other grains,
Australi-grain here, I have tested out the gemex kit prior to watching your video and I discovered that it is in fact resin due to its strong scent (so now I wear a mask while doing it). I bought the cheaper kit for $12 AUS and it comes with everything the bigger kit does just in smaller quantities, I even got a light although it was cheap looking it still did the job. One good thing I did find about the kit was it did say on the instructions to use in a well ventilated area but it said nothing about masks, gloves or any protective gear, while it is a really good kit it is not for 5+, in my personal opinion the kit should be 12+. A good bonus I will say is that I wanted to get into resin but I didn’t have the money for brands like Sophie and Toffey so now I know how to work with it for when I hopefully get into resin crafting in the future. P.S you can actually buy refill kits for I think $10 AUS.

You should! Watching Jackie's vids got me into resin, and it's super fun! UV resin is so satisfying, because you can work on a thing and have a neat and tangible project pretty quickly.

I think the JelliRez one is made of some kind of silicone; most mix-and-pour silicone products require a two-part mixture and usually have a short working time before they start to set. Plus, silicone stays soft and squishy once cured. Makes sense to me.
If the molds are plastic that would make sense. the molds can't be silicon for silicon based compounds, it would stick to itself. Jackie didn't comment on the material of the molds but I assume it's soft type of plastic since she didn't bend it much when unmolding.
I thought it would be silicone since it doesn't say toxic just don't eat. Silicone is usually not poisonous/toxic it's just not good for you to eat inedible things
I thought the same thing. One of these days I plan to test the theory.
Also, someone said that you can't use silicone on silicone, but that's not completely correct. You can IF you spray a thin, but full, layer of mold release (I believe some TH-camrs like Jazza have done). When we start working on getting things ready to open our Etsy shop, this is one of the things I plan to test. Want to make sure we can hit the ground running with it, so it's gonna take another year before we are ready to.
They need to add a protective mask if they market the second kit for the age 5+ if it's actually resin just incase a kid gets close to it when working with it... maybe even add gloves for the Little kids to wear...
Add some safety tips when working with it so that kids can learn how to be safe when using it...
And include some kind of smock and the gloves should be elbow high
The “Magic Light” more than likely has a safety mechanism that won’t allow the light to work unless the lid is fully closed.
Yet they still use resin 🙄

She tried to activate it while it was closed though. Even if it's completely shut you'd be able to see the light around the edges, and she couldn't. I agree she should've tried to put a mould in just in case though.
@Sofia Verhoogen-Guzzini Those are buttons?! I thought they were just decorations?? What could a UV lamp possibly need that many buttons for??
I wonder if the "magic light" has child ptotection and only shines when the top is closed? But in any way, it's not cool to put resin in a 5+ kids kit.

I agree, resin is for older kids and up. Even uv resin is ridiculously sticky and hard to get off stuff unless you know how...
The first kit seems to be a low odor epoxy
Epoxy is rather safe but the second kit is literally 3D PRINTER LITHOGRAPHY RESIN

I’m sick and tired of seeing so many creators just casually messing around with resin, not adhering to any safety standards, especially when their audience is mostly young and inexperienced in terms of more advanced crafting.

Glad to see that the Jellierez kits are good. We just started carrying them at my work (EB Games Canada), so now I can recommend them to customers!
Jackie, if you get the chance, I wouldn’t toss that weird shell thing - it could be a really neat background/frame for a sculpture or scene.

After seeing this video, I went out and bought 5 different Jellirez packs, you can get animal shapes, rainbows etc ❤️ my daughter will love them for her bday next week! Thank you Jackie for this series!!
Idk if anyone ever answered what they thought the jellirez Actually was, but since it had no smell and was so easy to clean up, I'm assuming it's a clear silicone resin. Like the kind you use to make resin molds.
Ooh yay a video, got a job interview in two hours. Not really nervous, just need a change. Life has been hard, super hard. Got my Salt Shaker couple weeks ago, hubby stole it. He loves it. Takes it with him when he goes to game night with his friends so he can spread the salt.

in not sure how these are sold for kids to use with no mask, resin has fumes even though they don't smell in some cases. I could not find the ingredient list anywhere but i do hope its not actual resin
I suspect it's closer in formula to gel nail polish. You are supposed to use that in a ventilated area (like any nail polish) but you certainly don't need a mask. It performs the same - needs UV light, heats up under aforementioned light.

@@ActualCharky I also think that's why they made it very small jewelery with little room for decoration, it's so kids don't breathe the nail polish fumes for too long before they already put in on the shell.
Also probably the light in the shell has a safe mechanism so it doesn't light if it isn't closed, probably so kids aren't tempted to play with a light already proved to give skin cancer (also imagine kids pointing UV lights at each other's eyes).

I feel like it could be silicone, have used that a lot in the past weeks at makeup school for making molds and prosthetics, and some kinds of sillicone take only about 15 minutes I thought, it also doesn't really have a smell and stays that kinda bounsy like structure

I actually bought the jellirez kit after watching this. Jackie, they have other kits too, one is fantasy, one is animals, and the other one is the mega kit. I can't wait for it to come, its just really cute! 💞
The GEMEX kit should have been a kit for 12-13+ even that might be to low
I mean I know kids in the recommended age for that kit that would be perfectly fine with it, but either way no matter age they should wear masks

My mom got me the Jellirez kit for my birthday (cuz i don't have the resources and space to fully engage with resin lol) and I really enjoyed it! I admit, I was waiting for you to review it first hahaha but when I did it, I was wondering: How would Jackie find this kit?
I really had a lot of fun with the kit, even as an adult. I hope they will provide refill packs for the gel and accessory bases so that we can make more projects with the existing molds

The first product is a fantastic alternative for kids. Also, it's great for adults like me who seem to treat instructions as suggestions.
I’m so glad you reviewed this and hope your leave a written review on the site as well. I wouldn’t have a clue that the last kit was resin and probably sniffed it and had an asthma attack. Ugh.
